Verizon One Talk EXP50 Expansion Module User Guide
This guide provides instructions for setting up and using the Verizon One Talk EXP50 Color-screen Expansion Module with Yealink IP phones.
About This Guide
The EXP50 expansion module enhances the functionality of T53W, T54W, and T57W IP phones. It features a large graphic color LCD screen with 20 physical keys, dual-color LEDs, and three display pages, supporting up to 60 keys. Up to three EXP50 modules can be daisy-chained to a single IP phone, providing a total of 180 keys. The EXP50 is ideal for receptionists, administrative assistants, call center agents, power users, and executives who manage a high volume of calls.

Physical Features
The EXP50 features a color LCD screen, Ext keys, LED indicators, USB jack, Mini USB jack, and power interface.
Item | Description |

1. Ext Keys | Assign various features to these keys. |

3. Color LCD Screen | Shows key feature label and key feature icon. |
4. Page Keys | Navigate to corresponding pages to view additional keys. |
5. USB Jack | Connects to Wi-Fi USB dongle WF40, USB headset, or USB flash drive. |
6. Mini Jack | Connects the supplied cable to the USB jack on the host phone or prior expansion module. |
7. Power Interface | Connects a power adapter. If more than two expansion modules are connected, a power adapter is needed for one of them. |
Icon Instructions
Icons associated with BLF/BLF List indicate:
- Green icon: BLF/BLF List idle state
- Flashing red icon: BLF/BLF List ringing state
- Solid red icon: BLF/BLF List callout state
- Solid green icon: BLF/BLF List talking state
LED Instructions
Ext key LED status (configured as a BLF key):
LED Status | Description |
---|---|
Solid green | The monitored user is idle. |
Fast-flashing red | The monitored user receives an incoming call. |
Solid red | The monitored user is talking. The monitored user's conversation is placed on hold. The monitored user is dialing. |
Off | The call is parked against the monitored user's phone number. The monitored user does not exist. |
Installation
The EXP50 is compatible with T53W, T54W, and T57W IP phones. To connect, unplug the phone stand from the IP phone.
Note: Up to three expansion modules can be connected to an IP phone.
First: Unplug the stand from the IP phone:
- Unplug the power adapter and Ethernet cable from the IP phone.
- Unplug the handset attached to the IP phone.
- Turn the IP phone over and lay it on a non-slip, flat surface.
- Unplug the stand from the IP phone.
Second: Connect the EXP50 color-screen expansion module:
- Turn over the phone and expansion module, and lay them on a flat, non-slip surface.
- (Optional) Remove silica gel from IP phone slots if present.
- Connect the EXP50 expansion module and the IP phone using the supplied connecting sheet and screw.
Connecting multiple expansion modules:
To connect two or more expansion modules, pull out the silica gel and connect them as shown in the diagrams. Connect the USB jack on the host phone to the mini USB jack on the expansion module using a supplied cable. For more than two modules, connect the USB jack of the prior module to the mini USB jack of the next module.
Note: Power is automatically transferred from the host phone. If using more than two modules, an additional Yealink power adapter (5V/2A) is required for one of the modules.
Startup
After powering on the EXP50, the LCD screen will display "Welcome Loading... Please wait". After a short time, the loading screen disappears, and you can assign features.
Customizing the EXP50 Color-screen Expansion Module
You can customize settings for the EXP50 expansion module.
Wallpaper
You can change the wallpaper via the host phone user interface or by using a picture from a USB flash drive.
Changing the Wallpaper via Phone User Interface
- Press Menu->Basic->Display->EXP Wallpaper.
- Press navigation keys (like ◀, ▶) or the Switch soft key to select a wallpaper image.
- Press the Save soft key to accept or Back to cancel.
If a custom picture from a USB flash drive has been uploaded, you can select it directly.
Adding a Custom Picture from USB Flash Drive via Phone User Interface
- Press Menu->USB->Browse Photo.
- Press navigation keys (like ◀, ▶) to select the desired picture.
- Press the Set as soft key, then select Set as EXP wallpaper.
- Press the OK soft key to accept the change.
The EXP wallpaper will update to the selected picture.
Screen Saver
The screen saver activates automatically when the IP phone is idle. It can display moving images or patterns. The screen saver on the phone and EXP50 operate synchronously.
The screen saver stops when:
- Any key is pressed or the screen is touched.
- The handset is picked up or hung up.
- An incoming call occurs.
- A new prompt appears (e.g., missed call, new voicemail).
- The status of a BLF key changes.
The screen saver will restart if the phone and EXP50 remain idle. Time, date, and feature status icons may be displayed.
You can configure screen saver wait time, type, and display clock via the phone user interface.
Uploading the Custom Picture for Screensaver
The screensaver picture must meet the following format:

Uploading a Custom Picture from USB Flash Drive via Phone User Interface
- Press Menu->USB->Browse Photo.
- Press navigation keys (like ◀, ▶) to select the desired picture.
- Press the Preview soft key.
- Press the Set as soft key, then select Set as screensaver.
- Press the OK soft key to accept the change.
Note: Ensure the USB flash drive is connected and the picture is in the root folder.
Configuring the Screen Saver
Configure screen saver settings via the phone user interface:
- Press Menu->Basic->Display->Screensaver.
- Use navigation keys (like ◀, ▶) or the Switch soft key to set Wait Time.
- Use navigation keys (like ◀, ▶) or the Switch soft key to set Display Clock (Enabled/Disabled).
- Use navigation keys (like ◀, ▶) or the Switch soft key to set Screensaver Type (System/Custom). 'Custom' requires uploaded pictures.
Press the Save soft key to accept or Back to cancel.
Adjusting the Backlight
The backlight level on the EXP50's LCD screen is synchronized with the host phone.
Adjusting the Backlight via Phone User Interface
- Press Menu->Basic->Display->Backlight on the host phone.
- Use navigation keys (like ◀, ▶) or the Switch soft key to select the desired Active Level.
- Press the Save soft key to accept the change.
Configuring the EXP50 Color-screen Expansion Module
The EXP50 supports 60 Ext keys, accessible via three page keys. Each key can be assigned a feature using the phone user interface.
Phone User Interface
Long press a desired key to enter its setting screen.
Speed Dial
Configure an Ext key for speed dial to quickly dial pre-defined numbers.
To configure an Ext key as a speed dial key:
- Click Dsskey->Ext Key.
- Select Speed Dial from the Type pull-down list.
- Enter the desired number in the Value field (e.g., 1003).
- Enter a Label or leave it blank (the number will display if blank).
- Click Confirm.
Intercom
Configure an Ext key as an intercom key for quick communication with colleagues.
To configure an Ext key as an intercom key:
- Click Dsskey->Ext Key.
- Select Intercom from the Type pull-down list.
- Enter the remote extension number in the Value field (e.g., 1006).
- Enter a Label or leave it blank (default is "Intercom").
- Select the desired line from the Line pull-down list.
- Enter the directed call pickup code in the Extension field.
- If configured, supervisors can press the intercom key to pick up calls directed to the target extension.
- Click Confirm.
Using the EXP50 Color-screen Expansion Module
Ext keys on the EXP50 function similarly to DSS keys on the IP phone.
Using the Busy Lamp Field
The Busy Lamp Field (BLF) feature allows monitoring of user status via BLF LED indicators. A BLF key can be configured to monitor a colleague's line status (busy or idle).
- BLF key LED is solid red when the line is in use.
- BLF key LED is solid green when the line is idle.
Pressing a BLF key can dial the monitored number when idle, or pick up incoming calls. During an active call on the host phone, pressing the BLF key can transfer the call to the monitored number.
Resetting the EXP50 Color-screen Expansion Module
You can reset the EXP50 to clear all configurations by resetting the host phone. The reset process is synchronized.
To reset the EXP50 via phone user interface:
- Press Menu->Advanced (password: admin)->Reset Config on the host phone.
- Select Reset to Factory Settings.
- Press the OK soft key. The host phone will display "Welcome Initializing...Please wait".
Note: Resetting the EXP50 may also reset the host phone. Custom settings on both devices will be overwritten.

Important Customer Information
- Electric Shock Caution: Use caution when connecting cables. Do not connect SELV circuits to telephone-network voltage (TNV) circuits. LAN ports contain SELV circuits, WAN ports contain TNV circuits.
- Do not operate the product or connect/disconnect cables during electrical storms.
- Do not use the product in or near water.
- Keep the product in well-ventilated areas away from heat sources. Do not block cooling vents.
- Ensure the plug-socket combination is accessible for power disconnection.
- Use only the manufacturer-provided AC adapter.
- Ensure a fuse or circuit breaker no larger than 120 VAC, 15 A is used on phase conductors.
- Unplug the product and refer servicing to qualified personnel if:
- The power cord or plug is damaged or frayed.
- Liquid has been spilled into the product.
- The product has been exposed to rain or water.
- The product does not operate normally after following instructions.
WEEE Warning
Dispose of electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) separately as unsorted municipal waste. Understand the meaning of the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol.

Emergency service responders are sent to the registered location provided during phone provisioning. Ensure your registered location is accurate. Contact your administrator if it is not.
Data and voice functionality, including 911 calls, may not be available during power outages, broadband connection failures, or other service disruptions. Verizon Wireless and its affiliates are not liable for service outages or inability to access emergency services.
