Installation Steps
Step 1: Mark Door
Measure the center line of the lock and the desired height from the finished floor. Select the backset (2-3/4" or optional 2-3/8"). Fold the template and apply it to the interior side of the door. Mark the center of the door as indicated on the template. Then, mark the center hole on the door face through the guide on the template.
Diagram shows a door edge and face with lines indicating the center line, the mark for the 1" hole in the door edge, and the mark for the 2-1/8" hole on the door face. Components like DEADBOLT, THUMB TURN ASSEMBLY, INDICATOR ASSEMBLY, STRIKE, WOOD FRAME REINFORCER, DUST BOX, and MOUNTING SCREWS are illustrated.Step 2: Drill Holes
Drill a 2-1/8" (54 mm) hole through the door face as marked for the lockset. For wood doors, it is recommended to drill from both sides to prevent splitting. Drill a 1" (25.4 mm) hole in the center of the door edge for the latch.
Diagram shows the door face with a marked 2-1/8" (54 mm) hole and the door edge with a marked 1" (25.4 mm) hole.Step 3: Install Latch
A. Insert the latch into the hole, keeping it parallel to the face of the door. Mark the outline of the latch face plate and remove the latch. B. Chisel a recess 5/32" (4 mm) deep, or until the latch plate is flush with the door edge. C. Insert the latch and tighten it to the door using #8 screws.
Diagram A shows inserting the latch and marking its outline. Diagram B shows chiseling the recess. Diagram C shows inserting the latch and securing it with screws.Step 4: Install Strike
Close the door. Locate the strike in the jamb and align with the center line of the strike. Extend this line to the door stop. Measure half of the door thickness plus 1/8" from the door stop and vertically mark the centerline for the strike. Drill two 1" (25.4 mm) holes 1-1/4" (31.7 mm) deep in the door jamb, 5/16" (8 mm) above and 5/16" (8 mm) below the horizontal center line. CAUTION: The hole must be drilled a full 1-1/4" (31.7 mm) deep to ensure proper functioning. Match the screw holes on the strike with the vertical center lines on the jamb. Mark the outline of the strike and chisel a recess 1/4" (6.4 mm) deep for a flush fit of the dust box, wood frame reinforcer, and strike. Place the dust box and wood frame reinforcer into the mortise area and tighten to the frame using 3" wood screws. Insert the strike and tighten to the frame with #8 screws.
Diagram A shows a door jamb with center lines and marks for the strike. Diagram B shows drilling holes in the jamb. Diagram C shows fitting and securing the strike plate, dust box, and wood frame reinforcer.Step 5: Install Thumbturn Assembly and Blank Plate
Insert the torque blade horizontally into the deadbolt latch. Crank until the indicator assembly is flush with the door face. Mate the thumbturn assembly with the torque blade on the indicator assembly. Insert the screws through the holes of the thumbturn assembly and latch body. Tighten the screws to the threaded posts of the blank mounting plate. Tighten the assembly so the complete assembly is tight to the door.
Diagrams illustrate inserting the torque blade into the latch, aligning the thumbturn assembly, and securing it with screws. Components like THUMB TURN ASSEMBLY, TORQUE BLADE, and INDICATOR ASSEMBLY are labeled.Step 6: Backset Adjustment
To change the deadbolt to a 2-3/8" backset, rotate the faceplate 1/2 turn.
Diagram shows the deadbolt mechanism with a curved arrow indicating rotation of the faceplate to adjust the backset.Template Information
IMPORTANT: Print template to scale if not factory supplied instructions.
The template provides guides for marking door edge and door side. It includes measurements for backsets: 2-3/8" (60 mm) and 2-3/4" (70 mm). It also shows door thickness measurements: 45 mm (1-3/4"), 40 mm (1-9/16"), and 35 mm (1-3/8"). Ensure the 1" (25.4 mm) hole is made at the center of the door edge.
Diagram shows a ruler, a fold line for the door edge, and markings for hole diameters and backset lengths.Customer Service
