Mitel MiVoice 6930 IP Phone Quick Start Guide
First Steps
This guide provides a quick introduction to the Mitel MiVoice 6930 IP Phone.
Phone Overview
The phone features several key components:
- Softkeys: 5 context-dependent softkeys that change function based on the screen.
- Programmable Keys: Up to 72 programmable keys, with a maximum of 12 per page.
- Speaker/Headset: Button to switch audio output between the speaker and headset. Ensure no adapter is used with DHSG/EHS headsets.
- Mute: Activates/deactivates microphone mute for headset, handset, or speaker.
- Volume: Adjusts volume for ringer, handset, speaker, and headset.
- Navigation/Select Keys: Used for navigating menus and selecting options. The left and right navigation keys can be used to access additional pages of programmable keys from the home screen.
- End: Ends active calls and exits menus.
- Call History: Accesses a list of missed, outgoing, and received calls, including those from paired mobile phones.
- Voicemail: Accesses the voicemail service.
- Settings: Accesses services and options to customize phone settings.
Important Note on Headset Jack: Only one headset should be connected to the headset jack. Connecting other devices may damage the phone and void the warranty.
Simple Call Handling
Making a Call
- Lift the handset or press the [Handset] button and dial the desired number.
- Press the programmable key for the relevant line and dial the desired number.
Ending a Call
Hang up the handset, press the [Softkey: End Call], or press the [End] button.
Answering a Call
Lift the handset or press the [Handset] button or the [Speaker] button to answer in speakerphone mode.
Redial
Press the [Softkey: Redial] once, or press the [Redial] button twice to call the last dialed number shown on the home screen.
Alternatively, press the [Call History] button to access the call history list. Navigate using the [Navigation Keys] and press the [Select Key] or [Softkey: Dial] to redial.
Mute
During an active call, press the [Mute] button to mute the microphone of the handset, headset, or speaker. Press the [Mute] button again to unmute.
Placing Calls on Hold and Resuming Held Calls
- To place an active call on hold, press the [Hold] button. The [Hold Symbol] will blink on the relevant line.
- Press the [Hold] button again or the line key for the held call to resume it.

User Interface Overview
Home Screen
The home screen appears when the phone is idle. It displays status indicators, your directory number, avatar, last dialed number, time, date, and a list of programmable softkeys.
Key elements on the Home Screen:
- Your Directory Number: Your assigned phone number.
- Last Dialed Number: The most recently dialed number.
- Programmable Keys: Display up to 12 programmable keys per page. [Page Indicator Dots] show the total number of pages and your current position.
- Status Indicators: Show connection status (e.g., Connected to Network, Bluetooth Active, Headset Connected, Mobile Device Connected, Call Forwarding Active, Missed Calls, Do Not Disturb, Hot-Desk User, Pending Voicemail).
- Time and Date: Current time and date.
Call Screen
When on an active call, the call screen shows the caller's avatar, name, number, and call duration. Context-dependent softkeys are updated with relevant call handling functions.
- Line Key: Indicates the line status (e.g., Available, Ringing, Busy, On Hold, Not Connected).
- Caller Avatar: Image of the caller.
- Call Duration: The length of the current call.
- Caller ID: The name and number of the caller.
- Softkeys: Contextual buttons like [Softkey: Answer], [Softkey: Decline], [Softkey: Transfer], [Softkey: Conference].
Applications
Contacts
The "Contacts" application is your personal phonebook stored locally on the phone. The Mitel MiVoice 6930 IP Phone supports a localized personal directory, integration with corporate LDAP directories, and an enhanced MobileLink feature for synchronizing contacts from your mobile device.
Contact Screen Elements:
- Contact Folders: Organize contacts (e.g., Personal, Corporate).
- Search Field: Enter a name to find a contact.
- Contact Details: Displays name and phone number.
- Scroll Bar: To navigate through contacts.
- [Softkey: Delete Contact]
- [Softkey: Add New Contact]
Making a Call from the Contacts Application
- Press the [Contacts] button to open the Contacts application.
- Navigate to the desired contact folder and browse contacts using the [Navigation Keys].
- Alternatively, enter the desired contact's name using the keypad and press the [Softkey: Search].
- Once the contact is highlighted, press the [Select Key] or [Softkey: Dial] to call the default number.
- To call an alternative number (e.g., mobile), press the right [Navigation Key] to select a different number, highlight it using the [Navigation Keys], and press the [Select Key] or [Softkey: Dial].
Call History
The "Call History" application lists your missed, outgoing, and received calls, including those from paired mobile phones. You can view, delete, and dial entries, or copy them to Contacts.
Call History Screen Elements:
- Filter "Call History": To filter by call type (Missed, Received, Outgoing).
- Call Type Indicator: Shows if a call was missed, received, or outgoing.
- Scroll Bar: To navigate through call history entries.
- Entry Details: Displays name/number, time, and date.
- [Softkey: Delete Entry]
- [Softkey: Copy to Contacts]
- [Softkey: Dial]
Using the Call History Application:
- Press the [Call History] button to open the application.
- Navigate through the lists using the [Navigation Keys]. Highlight an entry to view additional details by pressing the right [Navigation Key].
- Press the [Select Key] or [Softkey: Dial] to dial the highlighted entry.
- Press [Softkey: Add Contact] to copy the entry to the Contacts application.
- Press [Softkey: Delete] to remove the entry from call history.
Voicemail
When voicemail is active, the [LED Indicator] on the Mitel MiVoice 6930 IP Phone will blink red, and a [Voicemail Symbol] will appear in the status bar indicating new messages. Access your voicemail service by pressing the [Voicemail] button.
Visual Voicemail
Visual Voicemail allows you to access the voicemail system and view the number of total, new, and recorded voicemail messages.
Note: Voicemail and Visual Voicemail features must be configured by your system administrator.
Visual Voicemail Screen: Displays all, new, and recorded voicemails. Includes options for playing, sending, and deleting messages.
Activating Visual Voicemail
- Press the [Settings] button to access the settings menu.
- Navigate to "Voicemail" using the left [Navigation Key] and press the [Softkey: Select].
- Press the [Softkey: Select] to activate the checkbox for "Opens Voicemail App".
- Press the [Softkey: Save].
Note: For security reasons, the password can only be activated via the user login screen.

Advanced Call Handling
Forwarding a Call
The Mitel MiVoice 6930 IP Phone allows call forwarding via the [Softkey: Forward].
- Ensure you are on an active call with the participant you wish to forward.
- Press the [Softkey: Forward]. The active call will be placed on hold.
- Enter the number of the person to whom the call should be forwarded, and press the [Softkey: Forward].
Making a Multi-Party Conference Call
- Ensure you are on an active call with a participant you wish to include in a conference.
- Press the [Softkey: Add User]. The active call will be placed on hold.
- Enter the number of the person to be added to the conference.
- Wait for the person to answer, inform them about the conference, and then press the [Softkey: Merge Calls] to establish a three-way conference call.
- Repeat steps 2-4 to add more participants (up to seven).
Configuring Programmable Keys for Speed Dial
Speed dial keys allow you to call a pre-set number with a single press. They are useful for direct dialing internal/external numbers or accessing functions that require access codes. Speed dial keys can also be programmed for call forwarding or conference calls.
Note: Programming keys by pressing and holding is only possible if enabled by your system administrator.
Programming a Speed Dial Key
- Press and hold the desired programmable key (0-5 seconds) until the "Label" field appears.
- Enter a label for the key in the "Label" field. You can switch between uppercase and lowercase using the [Softkey: ABC].
- Press the down [Navigation Key] to move to the "Number" field and enter the phone number using the keypad.
- (Optional) Press the down [Navigation Key] to move to the "Private" checkbox and press the [Select Key] to program the speed dial key as a private number. Private calls are not logged in the call history.
- Press the [Softkey: Save] to save the settings for the selected key.
Note: Other functions like "Phone Lock", "Always Forward Calls", "Do Not Disturb", "Mobile Line", and "Account Code" can be configured by pressing and holding programmable keys if enabled by your system administrator. Refer to the Mitel MiVoice 6930 IP Phone User Manual for more details.
MobileLink Features
The Mitel MiVoice 6930 IP Phone supports the MobileLink feature, enabling seamless integration with mobile devices via Bluetooth technology. Key benefits include:
- Synchronizing your mobile phone's contact list and call history with your MiVoice 6930 IP Phone.
- Answering calls on your mobile phone via your MiVoice 6930 IP Phone.
- Switching active calls between your MiVoice 6930 IP Phone and your mobile phone.
Note: MobileLink features are only available if enabled by your administrator. Contact your administrator for activation details.
Pairing a Mobile Phone via Bluetooth
- Press the [Settings] button, navigate to Bluetooth settings, and press the [Select Key] or [Softkey: Select].
- Press the [Softkey: Turn On] to activate Bluetooth. Ensure your mobile phone is discoverable by other devices, as the Mitel MiVoice 6930 IP Phone will automatically search for available Bluetooth-enabled devices.
- When your mobile phone is found, highlight it in the list of available devices using the [Navigation Keys] and press the [Select Key] or [Softkey: Pair]. A Bluetooth connection request will appear on both the phone and your mobile device.
- Ensure the pairing code matches on both devices. Select "Yes" on the Mitel MiVoice 6930 IP Phone and confirm the pairing request on your mobile phone. The phone will then attempt to pair and connect.
- Press [OK] to confirm successful connection. The paired mobile phone will be added to the list of paired devices and can now be used.
Synchronizing Contacts Stored on the Mobile Device
After successful pairing and connection, the Mitel MiVoice 6930 IP Phone automatically attempts to synchronize your mobile phone's contacts with the "Contacts" application.
To manually update your mobile device contacts:
- Press the [Contacts] button to open the application.
- Navigate to the "My Mobile" folder, which contains contacts retrieved from mobile devices.
- Press the [Softkey: Refresh]. The phone will attempt to retrieve and update contacts from your mobile device.
Note: If contacts cannot be retrieved or the update fails, an error message will appear. Press [Try Again] to retry or [Cancel] to exit.
Answering a Mobile Phone Call with the Mitel MiVoice 6930 IP Phone
Once your mobile phone is paired and connected, incoming calls on your mobile phone will also display on the MiVoice 6930 IP Phone screen. You can answer by lifting the handset, pressing the [Handset] button, the blinking [Bluetooth Line Button], or the [Softkey: Answer] to use speakerphone.
Note: A mobile line key must be configured to answer mobile calls on the MiVoice 6930 IP Phone. Refer to the user manual for details.
Mobile Phone Caller ID Display: Shows caller's avatar and caller ID information.
Switching an Active Call Between Your Mobile Phone and the Mitel MiVoice 6930 IP Phone
- Press the [Softkey: Send Call] to transfer the call from your MiVoice 6930 IP Phone to your mobile phone.
- Press the [Mobile Line] button to transfer the call from your mobile phone to your MiVoice 6930 IP Phone.
Synchronizing the Mobile Phone's Call History
After successful pairing and connection, the mobile phone's call history is automatically synchronized with the "Call History" application on the MiVoice 6930 IP Phone.
To manually update the mobile phone's call history:
- Press the [Call History] button.
- Navigate to the "My Mobile" or "Missed" folder.
- Press the [Softkey: Refresh]. The phone will attempt to retrieve and update the call history from your mobile device.
Note: If call history cannot be retrieved or the update fails, an error message will appear. Press [Try Again] to retry or [Cancel] to exit.
