Phone Overview
The Mitel 6920 IP phone is a feature-rich desk phone designed for modern business communication. This guide provides a quick reference to its primary functions and operations.
Phone Description: The device features a clear LCD screen, programmable keys, soft keys, navigation controls, and a standard dial pad. It includes dedicated buttons for common telephony functions.
Key Components:
- 1 LCD Screen: Displays call information, menus, and status.
- 2 Programmable Keys: 6 multi-function, self-labeling keys supporting up to 18 specific functions.
- 3 Soft Keys: 4 intuitive, state-sensitive keys that change function based on the current screen or call status.
- 4 Navigation Keys/Select Button: Used for navigating menus and selecting options.
- 5 Dial Pad: Standard numeric keypad for dialing numbers.
- 6 Fixed Function Keys: Dedicated buttons for common actions.
- 7 Handset: For traditional voice communication (optional cordless handset supported).

Basic Call Handling
- Internal Calls: Pick up the handset (optional), dial the extension number. The called party's phone will ring.
- Making a Call: Lift the handset OR press the [Speaker/Headset] button. Dial 9 for an outside line, then dial the 10-digit telephone number. (Note: Phone must be configured for speaker or headset audio path).
- Transfer a Call: While on a live call, tap the [Transfer] softkey, dial the desired number. Hang up or wait for the called party to answer, announce the transfer, and then hang up.
- Conference: While connected to a 2-party call, tap the [Add User] softkey, dial the next party's number, wait for an answer, then tap [Join Calls] to connect all parties. To leave a conference, hang up or press [Goodbye].
- Transfer to Voicemail: While connected to the caller, press the [Voicemail] button, dial the extension number, and hang up to complete the transfer.
- Hold: To place a call on hold, press the [Hold] button. You can then hang up or place another call. To return to a call on hold, tap the applicable Line Key with the flashing [Hold] icon.
Advanced Features
- Mute: To mute the microphone during a call, press the [Mute] button; the Mute light turns on. To turn mute off, press the [Mute] button again; the Mute light turns off.
- Redial: To redial the most recently dialed number displayed on the Home screen, press the [Redial] button twice OR tap the [Redial] softkey. Pressing the [Redial] button once accesses the Outgoing calls list in the Call History application.
- Directed Call Pickup: To pick up any ringing telephone, press the [Call Pickup] feature key and dial the extension of the ringing telephone.
- Call Park: To park a call, press the [Call Park] feature key and hang up or press [Goodbye]. To retrieve a parked call, press the flashing [Call Park] feature key.
- Page: To page all telephones not on a call, press the [Page] feature key, make the announcement, and hang up or press [Goodbye] to end the page.
- Voice Call: Enables station-to-station calling without ringing the phone. Voice announces out the speaker, and the called party responds. Press the [Voice Call] feature key, dial the extension number or programmed feature key, and speak after the tone.
- Message (Voicemail): To access your voice mailbox, press the [Voicemail] button. If the phone is idle, tap the [More] softkey to view the date/time of the last message received. Tap the [Erase] softkey to clear current message indicators (this does not delete the message). Tap the [Call] softkey to call back.
- Record-a-Call: This feature uses your voicemail system to record phone conversations. Note: You may be required by law to inform the caller(s) you are recording the conversation. To start recording during a 2-party call, press the [Rec Call] feature key. Controls while recording include: tap [Pause] softkey to pause, tap [Resume] softkey to resume, tap [Erase] softkey to stop recording without saving, or tap [Save] softkey or hang up to stop and save the recording.
- Cell On/Off (Call Twinning): To ring your desk phone and cell phone simultaneously, press the [Cell On/Off] button (green light is on). To return ringing to your desk phone only, press the [Cell On/Off] button (green light is off). You can then speak after the tone. 'Cell' can be any outside phone device and number.
- Handoff: Seamlessly move calls between your desk and cell phone without the caller knowing. To push an in-progress call from Cell to Desk, press the [Handoff] feature key. To pull an in-progress call from Desk to Cell, press the [Handoff] feature key, answer your cell phone, and then converse on your cell.
Phone Management & Resources
- Hotdesk: To log in, tap the [Hotdesk] softkey, then tap the [Login] softkey. Enter your extension number and press # (pound). Enter your PIN (default is 1111) and press # (pound). Note: Your voice mailbox PIN and Hotdesk PIN are the same. Logging out and hotdesking back in using your voice mailbox password as your PIN will verify your Hotdesk PIN update.

Screen Descriptions
- Home Screen: Displays the date and time along with the last dialed number. It is the default screen when the phone is idle. Includes status indicators like Network Connected, Call Forward Always, Do Not Disturb, etc.
- Contacts Screen: Your personal phone book and directory. Supports local contacts and interoperability with LDAP corporate directories. Features a search field and contact folders.
- Call Screen: Displays essential call information during an active call, including caller avatar, name, number, and call duration. Context-sensitive softkeys offer call handling features like Conference and Transfer.
- Call History: A log of missed, outgoing, and received calls. You can filter by call type and view details of each entry, including remote party information and time.
