Replacing Keycaps and Switches
Illustrations detail the process of removing and installing mechanical keyboard switches. Provided tools include a switch puller and a keycap puller. Diagrams show a mechanical switch with its stem, housing, and pins. Instructions guide users to align the switch pins straight with the PCB and press down until a click is heard, ensuring proper seating. A warning is given about potential pin damage if not aligned correctly.
Tools Included
- Switch Puller
- Keycap Puller
Removing Switches
- Grip the switch puller tool and align its grip teeth vertically with the center of the switch.
- Grip the switch with the puller and apply pressure until the switch releases from the plate.
- With firm but gentle force, pull the switch away from the keyboard vertically.
Installing Switches
- Ensure all metal pins of the switch are perfectly straight and clean.
- Align the switch vertically so the Gateron logo faces north. Pins should align with the keyboard PCB.
- Press the switch down until you hear a click. This indicates the switch clips have engaged with the keyboard plate.
- Inspect the switch to ensure it is properly seated on the keyboard and test it.
Important Note: If a key is not working, it's possible a pin was bent during installation. Remove the switch and repeat the process. Pins can be irreparably damaged if this process is not done correctly. Never use excessive force when replacing keycaps or switches. If you cannot remove or install keycaps or switches, contact customer service to prevent damage.
