DOD FX101 GRIND Overdrive Pedal
User Manual
What the FX101 Does
The FX101 GRIND is an overdrive box that incorporates special circuitry to add harmonics, emulating an overdriven tube. It then rectifies the signal to produce a modern "rectifier crunch" sound. This pedal allows for the full dynamics of an overdriven amp to be heard, suitable for tones ranging from Hard Rock to Alternative to Grindcore. Its "Rumble" and "Fear" controls are centered at popular amplifier frequencies, making the pedal sound like a preamp. The "SPKR OUT" jack allows direct connection to a mixing board with speaker emulation.
Connecting the FX101
Connect your guitar to the FX101's input. Connect the FX101's output to your amplifier or another effects device. Connect the "SPKR OUT" to a mixing board. To power the unit without a 9-volt battery, use the DOD PS200R AC adapter connected to the AC adapter jack. The PS200R is a regulated supply designed to prevent hum.
Features
- LED indicator: Shows On/Off/Battery status.
- Active switching: Provides noiseless operation.
- Easy access battery compartment.
- Adapter jack: For AC operation.
- Rugged die-cast metal chassis.
- Three-year limited warranty.
- Rubber non-skid bottom.
Controls
- BLAST: Controls the output level of the FX101. Use this to overdrive the amplifier's front end or add a solo boost.
- RUMBLE: Controls the low-frequency EQ. Clockwise increases boost, counter-clockwise decreases cut.
- BURN: Controls the high-frequency EQ. Use this to achieve a tight, crisp sound or to enhance harmonics for oscillation.
- FEAR: Adds gain or overdrive for sustain. At the 12 o'clock position, it provides significant overdrive while retaining dynamics.
- FOOTSWITCH: Switches the effect in or out of the signal path.
- LED INDICATOR: Lights when the effect is enabled; off when bypassed.
- JACKS: Input, Output, SPKR OUT, AC Adapter. Use only the DOD PS200R power supply to avoid voiding the warranty.
Operation of the FX101
The FX101 simulates a tube amp by adding even harmonics for a "tube" overdrive sound. It reacts dynamically to playing attack, preserving instrument nuances. When setting up, use the BLAST control to match the distortion effect level with the original signal level, aiming for a slight increase when the effect is engaged. RUMBLE controls low-end boost/cut, BURN controls high-end boost/cut, and FEAR controls overdrive gain.
