Honeywell INNCOM DIRECT B578 SECURED EDGE ROUTER
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
ADDING B578-S EDGE ROUTERS TO NIAGARA/RBM
Niagara/RBM requires the B578-S edge routers to be configured with an IP Address/Subnet, Edge Router ID, PAN ID, RF Channel, and Secured Key before they can be added. This configuration is performed using Honeywell's IWAN suite programs (TermDMS, WinP5PT, DCenter, Netcom, WSCon, DM_Workbench) on a PC. Niagara version 4.14.0.162 or later is required.
Downloading the Inncom IWAN Suite:
- Click the provided link to access the Salesforce download page.
- Click the "Download" button to download the "Inncom_RBM_B578S.zip" file. Save it to a desired folder.
- Extract the contents of the "Inncom_RBM_B578S.zip" file to the root of your C:\ or D:\ drive. This will create an "Inncom" folder containing several subfolders.
- Navigate to the "Bin" folder within the "Inncom" folder. This folder contains the six main Inncom applications required for B578-S configuration: WinP5PT.exe, Netcom.exe, DCenter.exe, TermDMS.exe, DM_Workbench, and WSCon.
Important Note on Firewall Access: When running these programs for the first time, Windows Defender Firewall may prompt you to allow access. Ensure you select/check all network types (Public, Private, Domain) and click "Allow Access". This is a one-time action.
Running the Inncom Applications:
- Run each of the six programs as an Administrator by right-clicking and selecting "Run as Administrator".
- WinP5PT.exe: This program runs as a standard Windows application. Minimizing it will place it in the system tray. "Media Connection: 1" indicates a connection to Netcom via local host port 3006, and "Apps: 1" indicates a connection to Netcom via local host port 2012.
- Netcom.exe, DCenter.exe, WSCon.exe: These applications appear as small windows upon startup, then minimize to icons in the Windows "System Tray". Their icons will change from grayed out to colored when they establish a connection with their partner application. Netcom turns blue/white when connected to WinP5PT; DCenter turns Green/Yellow when connected to Netcom; WSCon turns Green/White when connected to DCenter.
- TermDMS.exe: This program runs in a Windows DOS terminal window. A "Connected to localhost on port 3007" message indicates a connection to Netcom.
Configuring the Encryption Passcode/Key:
The encryption passcode/key is defined in the Inncom\Scripts\DMSPC.cfg
file using the sLX_EncryptionPasscode
value. By default, this is set to !nncomAE1
and is "hashed" by TermDMS to :098F6A6200E1D48EEE3244
for security. You can use either the original un-hashed key or the hashed key for storage, but only the original un-hashed value can be entered when configuring B578-S routers in DM_Workbench. If you change this value, you must save the DMSPC.cfg
file and restart TermDMS. Any existing B578-S routers must be re-bound using the new passcode.
Configure the B578-S using DM_Workbench
With the IWAN programs running, use the DM_Workbench.exe program to configure the B578-S edge routers.
- Open DM_Workbench.exe. Verify that "Program Startup" and "WSCon Connected" appear in the upper right window. Ensure the WSCon icon is green and the DMSPC icon is red (not grayed out), indicating successful connections.
- Select Tools > Configure Edge Router from the DM_Workbench menu to open the "Edge Router Config" window.
- Edge Router IP Settings: Choose between DHCP or static IP configuration. If using static IP, enter the desired IPv4 address and Net Mask.
- Identification:
- Edge Router ID: Assign a unique ID (1-65535) for each B578-S. Conventionally, this matches the PAN ID.
- Edge Router Name: Enter a descriptive name, typically including location and PAN ID (e.g., "Flr 5 PAN 5").
- Edge Router RF Section:
- RF Channel: Select a channel (11-26) that matches the RF channel used by thermostats/room gateways communicating with the B578-S.
- PAN ID: Select the PAN ID (2-255) that the B578-S will manage. This determines which devices can communicate with it.
- Encryption Key: Enter the un-hashed Encryption Key defined in the
Inncom\Scripts\DMSPC.cfg
file into the "Security Key" field. Check the "Teach New Security Key" box. - Bind the B578-S:
- Select "Teach by Service Mode" in the DM_Workbench configuration mode.
- On the B578-S device, press and release the "S1 Bind" switch (requires removing the cover) to enter "Ready to Teach" mode. The Yellow D4 LED should become solid.
- Click the "Send Config" button in the Edge Router Config window to send the settings to the B578-S.
Upon successful configuration, the B578-S's D4 LED will blink rapidly, indicating a connection to Term DMS. The "Age(s)" in the Edge Router Lookup should update.
ADD THE B578-S(S) TO NIAGARA USING THE EASY ON BOARD WIZARD
This section outlines the basic steps to add configured B578-S routers to Niagara Workbench.
- Open the Niagara Workbench Easy On board Service (Config > Services > EasyOnboard Service).
- Proceed through the wizard until the "Edge Router Configuration" step.
- Select Edge Router Type: Choose "B578S" and enter the Encryption Key in the "Enter Encryption Key" field. Click "SAVE".
- Add Router: Click "ADD ROUTER". Enter the Router Name, Router ID, and PAN ID, matching the values configured in DM_Workbench. Click "SAVE". Repeat for all B578-S routers.
- Click "CONTINUE". Niagara will monitor for B578-S beacons. Once detected, the B578-S's will connect, and the EasyOnboard wizard will proceed to "Room Configuration".
Modifying B578-S Settings in Niagara:
To change settings like Edge Router Name, ID, or PAN ID after initial configuration, first update these settings in DM_Workbench. Then, in Niagara Easy Onboard Service > Edge Router Configuration, click the 3 dots under "Action" and select "Edit Router". Modify the fields and click "SAVE". Note that these changes in Niagara only update Niagara's stored values, not the actual B578-S configuration.
Deleting a B578-S:
In the Edge Router Configuration section, click the 3 dots under "Action" and select "Delete Router". Confirm the deletion. Click "CONTINUE" to finalize the removal. You can use the "Back" button to return to the Edge Router Configuration section if needed.
