1. Welcome
Thank you for choosing the Jabra Engage 45 SE headset. We hope you enjoy using it!
Jabra Engage 45 SE Features:
- World's lightest DECT headset: 21 grams (convertible model).
- Avoid distractions with a built-in busy-light indicator.
- All-day use: Up to 13 hours talk time (stereo/mono), up to 9 hours (convertible).
- Work anywhere in the office: Up to 150 meters (stereo/mono) or 100 meters (convertible) range.
- Secure conversations with DECT AES 256-bit encryption.
2. Package Contents
The Jabra Engage 45 SE is available in three models: stereo, mono, and convertible.
2.1 Stereo Model:
Includes: Base station, stereo headset, power adapter, telephone cord.
2.2 Mono Model:
Includes: Base station, mono headset, power adapter, telephone cord.
2.3 Convertible Model:
Includes: Base station, convertible headset, ear hook, ear gels (S/L), power adapter, telephone cord.
2.4 Optional Accessories:
Optional accessories are available at jabra.com/accessories. These include neckbands for mono and convertible headsets, and the GN1000 lifter or Jabra EHS adapter.
3. How to Use
3.1 Stereo/Mono Headset:
The headset can be worn with the microphone on either the left or right side.
3.2 Convertible Headset:
The headset can be worn in the left or right ear.
Safety Note: Head sensors can be used to detect user presence.
3.3 Replacing EarGels (Convertible Model):
To replace the EarGel, gently detach the old one and attach the new one (available in S and L sizes).
3.4 Adjusting the EarHook (Convertible Model):
1. Adjust the EarHook to fit the shape of your ear.
2. Place the headset on your ear.
3.5 Positioning the Microphone:
1. Position the microphone towards your mouth.
2. Ensure the EarHook fits behind your ear without a gap between the headset and your ear. Adjust the EarHook as needed.
Safety Note: Private conversations may potentially be recorded by the microphones.
3.6 Changing Wearing Style (Convertible Model):
Switch between wearing the headset with the ear hook or the neckband by following the illustrated steps.
4. First-time Use
Follow these steps to set up your headset:
- Connect to your phone.
- Connect to the power adapter.
- Dock and charge the headset.
- Make a test call to the connected phone.
- Put the headset on.
- Answer a call using your phone.
Your Engage headset is now ready for use.
4.1 Connecting to a Desk Phone with Headset Port
Connect the headset to the base station, and the base station to the desk phone using the telephone cord. An optional EHS adapter can also be used.
Note: The USB-C port is used for settings configuration and firmware updates only.
Security Note: The headset uses DECT security certification and 256-bit FIPS encryption for DECT connections.
4.2 Connecting to a Desk Phone without Headset Port
Connect the headset to the base station. Connect the base station to the desk phone using the telephone cord and the GN1000 lifter (optional).
Note: The USB-C port is used for settings configuration and firmware updates only.

4.3 Dock and Charge Headset
The headset charges when docked in the powered base station. The status indicator and battery icon will blink while charging.
- Stereo/mono headsets offer up to 13 hours of talk time.
- Convertible headsets offer up to 9 hours of talk time.
- Fast charging provides approximately 1.5 hours for a full charge. 40% charge is achieved in about 30 minutes.
5. Unit Overview
The base station features indicators for:
- Call Status: Indicates call activity.
- Battery Status: Shows battery level.
- Mute: Indicates microphone mute status.
- Conference (Add'l Headsets): For managing conference calls with multiple headsets.
5.1 Unit Status Indicators
Microphone Status:
- Red dot: Microphone muted.
- White dot: Microphone unmuted.
Battery Status Indicators:
- Yellow (pulsing): Battery charging.
- Green (solid): Battery full.
- Yellow (solid): Battery half full.
- Red (solid): Low battery.
- Red (flashing): Battery nearly empty.
- Blue (pulsing): Sleep mode.
Other Indicators:
- Blue (flashing): Pairing additional headset.
- Blue (solid): Conference call.
- Green (flashing): Incoming call.
- Green (solid): Call in progress.
- Yellow (solid): Call on hold.
5.2 Adjusting Desk Phone Microphone Volume
Use the '+' and '-' buttons on the base of the unit to adjust the desk phone microphone volume.
5.3 Finding Desk Phone Dial Tone
If you cannot hear a dial tone on your desk phone, you may need to adjust the dial tone switch located on the bottom of the unit. Use a sharp object to turn the switch to different positions until you hear a dial tone through the headset. The default setting is A.
6. Jabra Direct
Jabra Direct is computer software designed to support, manage, and ensure optimal performance of Jabra devices when connected to a computer.

6.1 Firmware Updates:
It is recommended to update the headset's firmware before first use via the Jabra Direct application. Jabra Direct will notify you of available updates when the device is connected.
Update firmware by connecting your device to a computer using a USB-C cable (not included).
Security Note: Data transfer between the headset and USB devices/ports is not encrypted.
7. How to Use
7.1 Stereo/Mono Headset Overview:
Controls: Volume buttons, Call button, Mute button, Status/Busy-light.
7.2 Convertible Headset Overview:
Controls: Volume buttons, Call button, Mute button, Status/Busy-light.
7.3 Status Indicators:
Stereo/Mono Version: Status/Busy-light.
Convertible Model: Status/Busy-light.
Indicator Meanings:
- Busy-light: Indicates busy status.
- Incoming call: Flashing green light.
- Headset starting up: Solid green light.
- Headset shutting down: Solid red light.
- Headset fully charged: Solid yellow light.
- Headset charging: Pulsing yellow light.
- Firmware updating: Pulsing blue light.
- DECT pairing: Flashing blue light.
- DECT connection established: Solid blue light.
7.4 Basic Call Functions:

7.5 Adjusting Volume
Volume Adjustment: Press the Volume Up (+) or Volume Down (-) buttons.
The convertible headset uses a motion sensor to determine which button increases or decreases volume based on its orientation.
Busy-light Toggle: Press both Volume buttons simultaneously.
Access Voice Menu: Press both Volume buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds.
Microphone Mute/Unmute:
- Stereo/Mono Headset: Press the Mute button.
- Convertible Headset: Press the Mute button.
7.6 Conference Calls
You can connect up to three additional headsets to one base station for conference calls. The primary headset must be in a call to use additional headsets.
Adding a Headset:
- Detach the primary headset from the base.
- Dock an additional headset to the base. It will attempt to connect.
- You will hear an audio prompt from the primary headset. Press the Call button on the primary headset to accept the additional headset into the conference.
Additional headsets are muted by default.
Note: Any headset can be used for conference calls.
Ending a Conference Call:
To end the call for all headsets, press the Call button on the primary headset or dock it. Additional headsets can leave the conference by pressing their Call button or by docking them to the primary headset's base (not their own base).
Persistent Conference Mode:
By default, the conference ends when the primary headset ends the call. This can be changed in Jabra Direct settings to allow the conference to continue until the primary headset is docked.
7.7 Transferring Calls
Transferring from Desk Phone to Headset:
Lift the headset from the base or press the Call button. The audio transfers from the desk phone handset to the headset. If necessary, press the headset button on the desk phone. Do not disconnect the headset until the call is ended.
Transferring from Headset to Desk Phone:
To transfer a call from the headset to the desk phone, lift the desk phone handset and then dock the headset. The audio transfers from the headset to the desk phone if the base is connected to the desk phone's headset port. Otherwise, press the headset button on the desk phone.
7.8 Changing Audio Notification Language
Audio notifications are available in five languages: English, German, French, Japanese, and Spanish.
To change language:
- When no call is active, press and hold both Volume buttons (2s) to enter the voice-guided menu. The first setting is audio notification language.
- Scroll through available languages using the Volume Up or Volume Down buttons.
- Press the Call button to confirm the selected language.
- Press and hold both Volume buttons (2s) to exit the menu. The base will restart, and the new setting will be saved.
Language can also be changed via Jabra Direct.
7.9 Adding a New Primary Headset
Each base station can only have one primary headset. Adding a new headset will replace the current primary one.
Methods for adding a new primary headset:
- If the current headset is out of range or off: Simply dock the new headset to the base. It will become the primary headset. The status light on the base will flash to indicate this.
- If the current headset is in range and on: Dock the new headset to the base and press its Call button (1s) until the base's status light flashes, indicating the new headset is now primary.
- With Easy Pairing enabled (Jabra Direct): If the current headset is not in an active call, dock the new headset to the base. It will become the primary headset, indicated by a flashing status light on the base.
7.10 Resetting the Base Station
The base station can be reset via Jabra Direct. To reset manually, press and hold both the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds until all base station indicator lights turn on.
7.11 Resetting the Headset
The headset can be reset via Jabra Direct. To reset manually, press and hold the Call button and the Volume Up button simultaneously for 3 seconds until the status indicator starts flashing pink. After resetting, re-pair the headset by docking it to the base.
8. Changing Settings
Headset and phone settings can be adjusted via the voice-guided menu or by connecting the base station to a computer via USB-C cable (not included) and using Jabra Direct.

- Range or Frequency: Optimize the unit for improved range or frequency.
- Hook Type: Select the type of hook lifter.
