Quick Start Guide

Product Components

The INSTEON Open/Close Sensor system includes two primary components:

Sensor Unit: The main body of the sensor.
Magnet: A small magnet that works with the sensor unit.

Key features and parts of the sensor unit include:

Set Button: ⚙️ Used for device pairing and configuration.
Status LED: ? Displays the current status of the sensor.

The sensor unit is powered by a single AA battery (? included). The sensor and magnet units are designed to be mounted on doors or windows and feature alignment indicators (arrows) to ensure correct placement.

Installation and Setup

Step 1: Sensor Placement

Peel off the adhesive backing from both the sensor unit and the magnet. Mount the sensor unit on the frame of a door or window, and the magnet on the door or window itself. Ensure they are positioned to detect when the door or window is opened or closed.

Step 2: Aligning the Sensor and Magnet

For optimal performance, position the sensor and magnet so that the alignment arrows on both units are facing each other. When the door or window is closed, the gap between the sensor and magnet should not exceed 1/2 inch (12mm).

Linking to the INSTEON Hub

Step 1: Initiate Linking via INSTEON App

Open the INSTEON app on your smartphone or tablet ?. Follow the on-screen instructions to add your new Open/Close Sensor to your INSTEON Hub. This typically involves navigating to the 'Add Device' or similar section.

Step 2: Pairing the Sensor

When prompted by the INSTEON app, press and hold the Set Button (⚙️) on the sensor unit until the Status LED (?) begins to blink. Once blinking, tap the Set Button (⚙️) once. The Status LED (?) will then double-blink, confirming that the sensor has been successfully paired with the INSTEON Hub.

Note: If you are not using an INSTEON Hub, please refer to the separate instructions that were included with your product for alternative setup methods.

Configuring Alerts

To receive real-time notifications, such as email and text messages, when the sensor detects an event (like a door opening), you can configure alerts. Enable these alerts within the device settings section of the INSTEON app. This feature enhances your home monitoring capabilities.
