First Steps
Unboxing: Upon unboxing, you may find some dust on the machine's surface due to recycled packaging materials. This is normal and can be cleaned with a soft tissue.
Initial Setup:
- Rinse the water tank and fill it with fresh potable water.
- Place a suitable container under the coffee outlet.
- Turn on the machine.
- Press the Espresso button three times.
- Insert a Nespresso capsule into the machine.
- Place your cup under the coffee outlet.
- Start brewing by pressing the Espresso or Lungo button.
Coffee Preparation
Follow the steps outlined for preparing your coffee, ensuring the water tank is filled and the machine is ready for operation.
Cleaning
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and longevity of your machine.
- Wash the machine components with hot water and a mild, odourless detergent.
- Dry all parts thoroughly with a clean, soft towel.
Descaling
Descaling is essential to remove mineral deposits and maintain the quality of your coffee. The frequency of descaling depends on your water hardness.
- Eject the used capsule.
- Empty the used capsule container and the drip tray.
- Add water and the Nespresso descaling agent to the water tank.
- Place a container under the coffee outlet.
- Enter the descaling mode on your machine.
- Start the descaling process.
- Refill the water tank and repeat the descaling process if necessary.
- Rinse the water tank, fill with fresh potable water, and press the Lungo button.
- Repeat step 8.
- Exit the descaling mode.
Refer to the table for water hardness levels and recommended descaling intervals.
Troubleshooting
This section provides solutions for common issues:
- No light indicator: Check power outlet, plug, voltage, and fuse. Contact Nespresso if problems persist.
- No coffee, no water: Ensure the water tank is filled. For first use, follow the initial setup instructions. Descale if necessary.
- Coffee comes out very slowly: Flow speed can depend on coffee variety. Descale if necessary.
- Coffee is not hot enough: Descale if necessary.

Energy Saving Mode
The machines feature energy-saving modes:
- Eco Mode: For Essenza Mini, the machine enters Eco Mode after 3 minutes of inactivity.
- Auto Off: The machine automatically switches off after 9 minutes of inactivity.
To Change Settings:
- With the machine OFF, press and hold the Espresso button to set the Espresso volume (40 ml / 1.35 fl oz) or Lungo volume (110 ml / 3.75 fl oz). Pressing once sets Auto Off to 30 min, pressing twice sets it to 9 min.
- To exit this mode, press and hold the Lungo button.
- To reset to factory settings, with the machine OFF, press and hold the Lungo button.
The machine will confirm factory settings restoration.
Personalize Your Coffee Size
You can program the volume for your Espresso and Lungo drinks:
- Fill the water tank with fresh potable water, insert a Nespresso capsule, and place a cup under the coffee outlet.
- Press and hold the chosen coffee button (Espresso or Lungo) until you reach your desired coffee volume.
- Release the button when the desired quantity is reached. The new water volume is now programmed.
Emptying the System
Empty the system before periods of non-use, for frost protection, or before a repair.
- With the machine OFF, remove the water tank and open the lever.
- Place a container under the coffee outlet.
- Press and hold both the Espresso and Lungo buttons simultaneously. The machine will switch off automatically when the procedure is finished.
- Empty and clean the relevant components.
