Welcome and Introduction
Congratulations! You have just purchased a DigiTech digital effect pedal.
Unlike many analog pedals, the number of hours digital pedals can be powered with 9-Volt alkaline batteries is limited due to the constant draw which digital signal processors require. Until battery technology advances to meet the requirements of digital pedals, it is suggested that a battery be used mainly for demonstration and practice purposes.
If you notice a change in the LED's brightness, or the pedal will not switch from Bypass to Effect, replace the battery with a new 9-Volt alkaline battery or visit your local DigiTech dealer to obtain a power adapter and unleash the pedal's full potential with unlimited power.
Introduction
More than a remarkable achievement, DigiTech's HardWire series represents a collection of significant improvements in guitar effects pedals. The HardWire series pedals provide a suite of well-known effects, each with superior tone and control. These pedals go above and beyond their peers to provide distinguishing features like true bypass and high voltage operation, making them essential additions to the signal chain of players who value sound quality and demand the utmost in performance.

Pedal Interface and Controls
The DigiTech HardWire CR-7 Stereo Chorus features the following controls and connections:
- 1. Level Knob: Controls the chorus level. Turn clockwise to increase, counter-clockwise to decrease.
- 2. DC Adapter Jack: Connect the optional Harman power supply here. Use the proper supply for your area's mains line voltage.
- 3. Speed Knob: Controls the modulation speed of the chorus effect. Turn clockwise to increase speed, counter-clockwise to decrease speed.
- 4. Depth Knob: Controls the intensity of the chorus effect. Turn clockwise for a deep, rich chorus sound; counter-clockwise for a subtle chorusing.
- 5. Type Knob: Selects one of seven chorus types:
- STUDIO: Studio quality chorus with a wide stereo image.
- MULTI: True 8-voice chorus; the lushest chorusing available in a pedal.
- MODERN: Dual voice chorusing that is both very rich and smooth.
- BOUTIQUE: A rich chorus with the quirkiness of analog circuits.
- ANALOG: Distinctively organic bucket-brigade chorus.
- JAZZ: Single voice chorusing with a dry output.
- VINTAGE: Warm and versatile, from subtle to euphoric.
- 6. Input 1 (Mono): Connect your instrument, an additional pedal, or an amp effects send to this jack. Signals are heard at both outputs when only Input 1 (Mono) is used. This jack enables battery power to the pedal when connected. To prolong battery life, disconnect the cable from this jack when not in use. If the optional Harman power supply is used, cables can remain connected.
- 7. Input 2: Connect a second input to this jack for stereo operation. Inputs 1 and 2 are processed separately through the stereo chorus effect and then fed to Outputs 1 and 2, maintaining true stereo separation between channels.
- 8. Foot Switch Release Pins: These two spring-loaded pins hold the Foot Switch in place. They are used to access and change the battery.
- 9. Indicator LED: Lights when the effect is turned on. When battery power is low (approximately 15 minutes before depletion), the Indicator LED dims, providing an advanced warning that the battery needs replacement soon.
- 10. Foot Switch: Turns the effect on and off.
- 11. Output 1 (Mono): Connect this output to the input of a single guitar amplifier, another pedal input, or an amp effects return.
- 12. Output 2: Connect this output to a second guitar amplifier when two amplifiers are being used.
NOTE: Use unbalanced mono instrument cables only.
Setup Diagrams
Amp Setup
This setup involves connecting your guitar to the pedal's input and the pedal's output to a single amplifier. An optional Harman Power Supply can be used for power. An alternative shows the pedal placed within an amplifier's effects loop.
Effects Loop Setup
For stereo operation or integration into an amp's effects loop, connect your guitar to Input 1. Output 1 connects to the amplifier's effects SEND, and the amplifier's effects RETURN connects to Input 2. An optional Harman Power Supply can be used. If the amp effects loop has a mix control, set the mix to 100% full wet.
Battery Operation
In the event that battery power is completely depleted, HardWire pedals automatically switch into bypass, eliminating the need to remove the pedal from your pedal chain. To replace the battery:
- Using the tip of a 1/4" guitar cable, push in one of the Release Pins on either side of the Foot Switch and remove it from the pedal chassis.
- Remove the battery from the battery compartment and disconnect the battery cable.
- Connect a new battery to the battery cable and place it back in the battery compartment. Ensure the battery cable does not interfere with the spring or pedal switch arm.
- Place one hole of the Foot Switch over its corresponding pin.
- Push the opposite pin in and lower the other side of the Foot Switch into place over the depressed pin. Release the pin. When the Foot Switch is properly fastened, both Release Pins should be flush with the outer side of the pedal.
The diagram illustrates the pedal chassis components: Foot Switch, Pedal Switch Arm, 9VDC Battery, Battery Compartment, Spring, and Foot Switch Release Pins. The Foot Switch is shown being removed.
Performance Accessories
The following accessories are included to enhance your pedalboard integration:
- Hook-and-loop Pedalboard Pad: Designed to attach to the surfaces found on most commercial pedal boards. To apply, peel off the existing rubber skid pad from the bottom of the pedal, peel the adhesive protector from the back of the Pedalboard Pad, and apply the pad to the bottom of the pedal.
- Foot Switch Glow Sticker: Easily visible on dark stages. To apply, peel the adhesive backing from the sticker and apply it to the top of the Foot Switch.
- StompLock™: Keeps your settings where you want them. To place the StompLock over the pedal knobs, set the knobs to your preferred setting, gently push the StompLock over the top of the knobs. To remove, gently lift one side and then the other.
