2. Introduction
The portable magnetic loop is a versatile, mobile solution that fits perfectly on desks and can be moved easily. It is ideal for small group conversations, typically two people, in small spaces like offices.
3. Components
The BM-DESK includes the following components:
- 1. Sticker: "space for people with hearing loss" [Hearing Aid T-Coil Mode]
- 2. Front Cover
- 3. Induction Loop Antenna
- 4. Battery Slot
- 5. Battery Cover
- 6. BM-DESK Base
Diagram Description: An exploded view shows the components of the BM-DESK, including the base, antenna, battery compartment, and covers. A symbol indicating hearing aid compatibility is also visible.
4. Charging the Portable Magnetic Loop
Note: Fully charge the loop before first use.
- Connect the power cable to the mains socket.
- Connect the power cable to the magnetic loop's "DC IN" socket on the back. The LED indicator will blink red while charging.
- The indicator light will turn green when charging is complete.
5. Adjusting the Portable Magnetic Loop

- Place the portable magnetic loop between the hearing aid wearer and the second person on the desk.
- Ensure the back of the loop (with the microphone) faces the person without a hearing aid.
- The front of the device should face the person with hearing loss.
- Press the central button (POWER) to turn on the device.
- The system is now ready for use.

7. Meaning of the Indicators
Diagram Description: A simplified representation of the indicator LEDs on the BM-DESK, labeled 1 through 4.
- 1. Battery charging: Indicator light for charging status.
- 2. Battery low: Indicator light for low battery level.
- 3. Output current: Indicator for audio output.
- 4. Power supply: Indicator for power status.
8. Usage
Once the magnetic loop is turned on, you can start your conversation normally.
In normal operation, if the LED (indicator 3) lights red when you speak, it indicates the system is working.
Troubleshooting: If the prosthesis wearer does not pick up a clear signal:
- Ensure the portable magnetic loop is fully charged.
- Adjust the position of the loop on the desk. The hearing aid wearer should be no more than 1.1 meters from the loop.
- Ensure the wearer has properly engaged the T-position [Hearing Aid T-Coil Mode] of their hearing aid.
- Ask the wearer to check the sound volume settings on their hearing aid.
If the above steps are followed and the wearer still cannot hear a clear signal, it may be due to:
- A failure of the loop.
- A defect in the wearer's hearing aid.
- The wearer's hearing aid coil is not activated.
9. Additional Connections
9.1 External Microphone
If more than two people are involved in a conversation, it is recommended to use a loop adapted for larger areas. If one is not available, an external microphone can be used.
Diagram Description: Shows the rear panel with the EXT-IN jack and a diagram of an external microphone connection.
- Insert the microphone jack into the EXT-IN socket on the back of the unit.
- Place the external microphone towards those who are speaking.
9.2 External Sound Source
To connect the loop to a TV or other external sound source, use a jack/jack cable.
- Insert the jack connection into the appropriate outlet on your sound source.
- Insert the jack plug into the EXT-IN socket on the back of the portable loop.
- Position the loop so it faces the wearer of the hearing instrument.
Note: The internal microphone is inactive when an external microphone is connected.
10. Important Information
- A green LED indicates the unit is functioning properly.
- If the battery is low, a yellow LED will blink.
- The device can be charged while in use.
- When the portable magnetic loop is not in use, it should be connected to its mains charger. This consumes very little power.
Note: The operating time with a full charge and not plugged into the mains is approximately 10 hours. Charging time is approximately 4 hours.
