Reference Information (СПРАВОЧНЫЕ СВЕДЕНИЯ)

This section provides more detailed information and additional technical data about the watch's functions, including important notes and precautions.

Warning Indicators

Warning indicators appear on the screen when certain errors occur, stopping any measurement operations. Indicators appear at the top of the screen, and "--" replaces direction or temperature readings.

Diagram shows "ERR" and "BAT" indicators.

Magnetic Field Indicator

This indicator appears when the digital compass cannot provide accurate readings, usually due to a strong magnetic field affecting the watch. Move the watch to a different location and try the procedure again. Refer to "Digital Compass Function Features" for error causes.

Battery Indicator (BAT)

This message indicates that the battery is critically low, preventing measurements. It appears when battery power drops below a certain level or when using the watch at very low temperatures (below -10°C).

Sensor Malfunction Indicator (ERR)

This message indicates a malfunction in the sensor's electrical circuit. The "ERR" indicator flashes on the screen. The "ERR" message may also appear during digital compass calibration. In such cases, it does not indicate a sensor failure and will disappear after recalibrating the digital compass.

Auto Return Function

Viewing Date and Other Settings

Buttons 'B' and 'C' are used in various modes to scroll through data. Holding these buttons down usually scrolls through the data rapidly.

12-Hour or 24-Hour Time Display Format

Features for Direction and Temperature Measurement

Digital Compass Function Features

This watch has a built-in magnetic sensor for measuring azimuth, which is sensitive to the Earth's magnetic field. The North direction indicated by the watch is Magnetic North, which differs slightly from Geographic North. Magnetic North is located in northern Canada, while Magnetic South is in southern Australia. The difference between Magnetic North and Geographic North increases as you approach the magnetic poles. Some maps show Geographic North, so be aware of this difference when using maps.

Azimuth Values

Azimuth values displayed on the watch represent the angle measured clockwise from Magnetic North (0 degrees) to the direction indicated by the watch's 12 o'clock mark.

Diagram shows Magnetic North, the 12 o'clock mark, and the azimuth angle.

Influence of Measurement Location on Azimuth Accuracy

Storage

Digital Compass Calibration

If you find the digital compass is giving inaccurate results, it needs calibration.

There are two calibration procedures: Two-Direction Calibration and North Calibration.

Important:

How to Perform Two-Direction Calibration

  1. In Orientation Mode, press and hold button 'A' until "-1-" appears at the top of the display.
  2. Diagram shows "-1-" indicator at the top of the display.

  3. The magnetic north indicator will flash, indicating readiness for the first direction calibration. Place the watch on a flat, horizontal surface and press button 'C' to perform the first calibration.
  4. After calibration is complete, "OK" will appear. The display will then show "-2-" and the magnetic north indicator will flash for the second direction calibration.
  5. Rotate the watch 180°.
  6. Press button 'C' again to perform the second calibration.
  7. After calibration is complete, "OK" will appear. The watch will automatically return to the Orientation Mode display.

Features of Two-Direction Compass Calibration:

How to Perform North Calibration

  1. In Orientation Mode, press and hold button 'A' until "-1-" appears at the top of the display.
  2. Diagram shows "-1-" indicator at the top of the display.

  3. Press button 'D' to start the North Calibration procedure.
  4. Diagram shows "0°" indicator appearing.

  5. Place the watch on a flat, horizontal surface and align the 12 o'clock mark with North (use another compass to determine North).
  6. Press button 'C' to start the calibration.
  7. After calibration is complete, "OK" will appear. The watch will automatically return to the Orientation Mode display.

Questions and Answers

Q: Why are direction readings inaccurate?

A: Possible causes include:

Q: Why does the digital compass give different results in the same location?

A: Magnetic fields from nearby high-voltage wires can affect readings. Move the watch away from these wires and try measuring again.

Q: "--" appears instead of a direction reading. What does this mean?

A: This indicates the watch is affected by a strong magnetic field. Move the watch to a different location and try measuring again.

Q: Why are digital compass results inaccurate indoors?

A: Appliances like TVs, computers, and speakers generate magnetic fields that interfere with the Earth's magnetic field. Move the watch away from the source or use it outdoors. It is particularly difficult to use the digital compass inside reinforced concrete structures. Avoid using it on trains or airplanes.

Q: What do the numbers on the circular scale represent?

A: The circular scale shows degrees, increasing counter-clockwise. These numbers help determine the angle between your direction and Magnetic North. For example, if the magnetic north indicator is near "90", it means the angle is 90° (the 12 o'clock mark points East).
