IMPORTANT: MantelMount has three different adjustments that must be made after the installation is complete in order to operate properly:

  • The side-to-side swivel stops are adjusted with two screws with locknuts so that the TV does not swivel into the mantel.
  • Tilt is removed with two screws on each side of the swivel mechanism. The TV should always be vertically parallel to the wall.
  • The bottom travel stop is adjusted with two screws and locknuts so the TV and mount do not lower all the way into the mantel.

Critical Installation Requirements

Before beginning, verify that your installation meets all of these CRITICAL requirements:

A. Fireplace Temperature

MantelMount is designed for use only with decorative fireplaces that are not the primary heat source for a house. Temperature at the front edge of the mantle should never exceed 110° F (43° C).

[Diagram: Fireplace mantle with temperature gauge showing max 110°F]

B. Wall Structure

Wall must be WOOD STUD FRAME only. There must be at least 2 studs available for mounting. Wall covering must not exceed 5/8 inch thick. For other types of walls or installations, visit the FAQ section at www.MantelMount.com.

[Diagram: Wall with two studs indicating required structure]

C. Mantle Extension

Mantle must not extend from the mounting surface more than 19 inches (22 inches for non-recessed installations). MantelMount cannot extend past a mantle larger than 19 inches. Larger mantles will also reduce the amount of side-to-side swivel.

[Diagram: Wall with mantle extending, showing 19 inches maximum extension]

D. Television Requirements

  1. Weight must be below 125 pounds (56 Kg).
  2. Screen size larger than 50 diagonal inches.
  3. Mounting screw holes are VESA compliant.

For non-VESA hole patterns, visit the FAQ section at www.MantelMount.com.

Installation Steps

Follow these steps carefully for proper installation.

Step 1-4: Attaching Brackets and Positioning

Use a Vertical Brace {27} to determine if your television has a flat or irregular back. An irregular back may require spacers and longer screws to ensure the brace is parallel to the TV screen. Choose the correct screw diameter and length for your TV's threaded inserts, ensuring adequate thread engagement without bottoming out. Use the minimum number of spacers if required. Do not use screws that are too long, as this can damage internal TV components.

The Vertical Braces {27} are mounted 8 inches higher than the bottom of the Lift Housing {30}. This ensures the TV hides the mount when in the UP position. If you need to position the TV at a specific height, calculate the Lift Housing location by subtracting 8 inches from the total distance from the TV bottom to the desired housing position.

[Diagrams: Illustrating flat vs. irregular TV backs, screw engagement, screw/spacer combinations for M5, M6, M8 VESA mounts, and the 8-inch vertical brace positioning relative to the lift housing.]

Step 5-8: Brace Extenders and Measurements

Vertical Braces {27} are always mounted higher than the TV's bottom. Brace Extenders {28} can be mounted above the TV bottom (for TVs with low mounting holes without a soundbar) or below the TV (to accommodate a soundbar on the Horizontal Brace {29}). If all TV screws fit the Vertical Braces {27} and no soundbar is used, Extenders {28} may not be needed.

Attach the TV Horizontal Brace {29} with Screws {18} if using a soundbar. Slide Extenders {28} on from the outer ends. Attach Extenders {28} to Vertical Braces {27} using Screws {19} and Nuts {16}. Soundbar Wings {59} are optional.

Measure the distance from the bottom of the Vertical Braces {27} (not Extenders) to the bottom of the television or soundbar. Record this distance for Step 9.

[Diagrams: Showing brace extender placement with/without soundbar, attachment of horizontal brace and extenders, and measurement points.]

Step 9: Determine Lift Housing Vertical Position

The chart below provides required clearance heights based on mantle extension. This clearance, plus the distance measured in Step 8, minus 6 inches, determines the correct height above the mantle to install the Lift Housing {30}. This calculation ensures the TV clears the mantle during movement.

If mantle extends: Required Clearance:
Less than 10 inches Add 4 inches
10 - 12 inches Add 5 inches
12 - 14 inches Add 7 inches
14 - 17 inches Add 10 inches
17 - 19 inches Add 13 inches

[Diagram: Illustrating the calculation process: Measure distance (Step 8), Add clearance from chart, Subtract 6 inches to find Housing height above mantle.]

Step 10-11: Remote Pairing and Operation

Pair the RF Remote Control to the MM860 by pressing any button to verify the blue light, attaching the Power Cable {52}, plugging it in, and pressing the "Program" Button on the electronics housing for 3 seconds until the Status light blinks. Then, press the "SET" button on the remote, followed by the "Program" button to confirm pairing. Verify proper operation by lowering the arm to horizontal and testing swivel with the LEFT/RIGHT buttons.

[Diagrams: Remote control layout, electronics housing with program button, and mount operation test.]

Step 12-15: Installing Housing and TV

Install the Lift Housing {30} using the template for recessed or non-recessed mounting. After the housing is installed and powered, use the remote's DOWN button to lower the arm to horizontal, ensuring it does not go past horizontal to avoid hitting the mantle.

WARNING!

DO NOT put hands into the Lifting Mechanism while operating the mount with the Remote Control.

Install the TV Frame {26} using 4 Screws {20} and Washers {11}. These can also be used to fine-tune the TV's level. Always tighten screws.

THIS STEP REQUIRES TWO PEOPLE. Hang the TV onto the TV Frame {26}. If the TV is unbalanced, slide it sideways to balance and level. Attach with 4 Screws {18}.

CAUTION: Crush Hazard. Stay clear of area between wall and TV during operation.

[Diagrams: Lift housing installation, remote lowering arm, TV frame attachment, and two people hanging the TV.]

Step 16-19: Adjusting Travel Stops

Downward Travel Stops (First): Adjust the Hard Bottom Stop Position by jogging the mount to its maximum downward position (without swiveling). Loosen locknuts, adjust bottom stop screws, and retighten locknuts. For the Soft Bottom Stop Position, jog the mount slightly up from the hard stop. On the electronics housing, press the "Program" Button. On the remote, press "SET" then "DOWN" within 2 seconds. Press "Program" again to exit.

Side Swivel Travel Stops (Second): Adjust the Hard Side Swivel Stop Position by jogging the mount to its maximum right side position. Loosen the locknut and adjust the swivel stop screw. Repeat for the left side. For the Soft Side Swivel Stop Position, jog slightly inward from the hard stop. Press "Program" on the housing, then "SET" then "RIGHT" on the remote within 2 seconds. Press "Program" again to exit.

[Diagrams: Adjusting bottom stop screws and locknuts, and adjusting side swivel stop screws and locknuts, referencing remote and housing buttons.]

Step 20-22: Final Adjustments and Features

Removing Unwanted Tilt: If the TV is tilted downward in the up position, slightly loosen the four bracket screws, remove any tilt, and retighten the screws.

Setting Memory Positions: Once hard and soft stops are set, jog the mount to desired positions. On the remote, press "SET" then "M1" for Memory One, and "SET" then "M2" for Memory Two.

Auto Raising Heat Monitor (ARHM): This feature monitors temperature above the fireplace. If heat behind the TV rises above 130°F (54°C), the mount will automatically raise the TV. The thermocouple sensor is inside the electronics housing.

CAUTION: Never allow children to play around, hang from, or operate MantelMount. Property damage or personal injury can occur.

[Diagrams: Adjusting tilt screws, remote buttons for memory positions, and illustration of ARHM function.]

Step 23-24: Cable Management

Attaching TV Power Cable: If using the Auto Lowering Power Sensor (ALPS), attach the TV Power Cable as shown. Plug it into the onboard socket and loop it down away from pinch areas. Loop it towards the TV with enough slack for full swivel. Keep all cables below the pinch area using anchors {14} and cable ties {15}.

Cable Routing: Use covers to hide routed cables. The Cable Cover {60} pulls open. The Access Cover {32} requires removing two screws {18}. Ensure cables are not stressed or pinched.

[Diagrams: TV power cable routing with ALPS, and cable routing with covers.]

Installation Options

The MM860 offers several installation methods:

Surface Mount (Non-Recessed)

To Wall Studs: Use Horizontal Braces {31} to attach to existing wall studs. Braces can reach studs up to 34 inches apart and attach flush to the back of the Lift Housing {30}.

CAUTION: Do not overtighten Lag Bolts {13}. Damage due to overtightening can cause property damage or injury.

To Stone or Concrete Walls: Use the six holes in the back of the Recess Frame {30}. Remove the lower Access Cover {32} to access lower holes. The wall must be solid stone or concrete capable of holding five times the equipment weight. Use concrete anchors (not included).

[Diagrams: Surface mount to studs and to stone/concrete.]

Recessed Installation

Using Horizontal Braces {31}: Attach braces to the flange on the front of the Lift Housing {30}. Use the template to mark the drywall cutout. This is easiest when no center stud needs cutting.

Using 2x4 Stud Brackets {53}: For studs far apart, or when a center stud needs cutting, horizontal 2x4 sections can be installed through the cutout. Brackets provide structure for the mount, attached with Lag Bolts through the Lift Housing {30} flange. Cut studs can be reattached to the 2x4s.
