LightBurn for xTool D1 (User Guide)

If you need to control xTool D1 through LightBurn, download the official release of the LightBurn software. LightBurn is third-party software, and therefore Makeblock Co., Ltd. shall bear no responsibility for any loss caused due to the operation of LightBurn. The firmware of xTool D1 has been tested in detail by Makeblock Co., Ltd, but incompatibility with the software or hardware may still occur. If errors occur due to incompatibility, you can contact after-sales service for technical support.
Update the firmware of xTool D1
To ensure compatibility of xTool D1 with LightBurn, update the firmware of xTool D1 to version V1.1.0 B3. To update the firmware, install Laserbox basic of version V1.1.1 or later.
Perform the following steps to update the firmware of xTool D1:
- Turn on the power switch of xTool D1.
- Use the USB cable to connect xTool D1 to your computer.
- Double-click the Laserbox basic icon to open it.
- Choose Menu > Check for Updates. If a new version of Laserbox basic is found, update it to the latest version.
- Choose Menu > Check For Firmware.
- Select the serial port that xTool D1 uses and click Connect.
- Click Update Now, and wait for the update to complete.
Checking the firmware version:
- Select the serial port that xTool D1 uses.
- Choose Menu > Check For Firmware.
- Check whether the version is updated to the latest one, which is V1.1.0 B3.
Obtain and install LightBurn
Download the latest version of LightBurn from lightburnsoftware.com and install it. New users receive a 30-day free trial. Ensure you use LightBurn version V1.0.0.4 or later.
Configure xTool D1 on LightBurn
Before configuring xTool D1, download the configuration file first:
- Open LightBurn, click Devices on the Laser panel. Note: Start configuration via Devices, not Import Prefs, to avoid overriding original settings.
- Click Import to import the file xTool_D1_Prefs. The following device information is displayed after successful import.

- Place a material to be engraved in the working area. Use the ranging rod to set the laser head height. The center point of the cross-shaped light beams indicates the start point for framing. You can move the laser head to the desired start position.
- Draw a square on the LightBurn canvas.
- Set the parameters for the operation.
- Set the start position for the engraving.
- Click Frame to preview the engraving position on the material.
- Click Start to begin the engraving process.
Operation guide--rotary processing
Install the rotary roller engraving module on xTool D1
- Fit cylindrical spacer blocks to the supports of Laserbox D1. Remove the rubber ring from each support and fit it to each cylindrical spacer block.
- Set the position of the movable roller on the rotary roller engraving module and connect it to Laserbox D1. Use the engraving of a stainless-steel cup as an example. Refer to "Setting the position of the movable roller" for details.
- Connect the rotary roller engraving module to Laserbox D1.
- Place the rotary roller engraving module in the middle of the working area of Laserbox D1. Ensure it is parallel to the working area to prevent pattern deformation.
- Focus the laser head: Set the laser head to the proper height using the ranging rod, then move it over the object. Position the center of the cross-shaped light beams at the start point for engraving.
Use LightBurn for rotary processing
- Click Settings on the toolbar.
- Enable "Show rotary enable on main window" in the Settings window and click OK.
- Choose Tools > Rotary Setup.
- Set the parameters for the rotary roller engraving module and click OK. Key parameters include Rotary Type (Roller), Rotary Axis (e.g., Y Axis), Roller Diameter, Object Diameter, and Circumference.
- Import the pattern, set its size, and configure engraving power and speed.
- Enable "Enable Rotary". Click Frame to preview the position and set the laser head accordingly. Click Start to begin.
Note: Current firmware supports limited rotary functions. "Start From" can only be set to "Current Position". "Move" tab settings are unavailable.
Setting the position of the movable roller
Adjust the engraving position by changing the movable roller's position (e.g., from 2 to 1):
- Remove the screw from the movable roller.
- Pull up the support of the movable roller and rotate it to the target position.
- Place the support into the corresponding slot, ensuring the concave part faces away from the roller.
- Tighten the removed screw to fix the support in the target position.

Precautions
- The start position is set to Current Position by default in the configuration file.
- The start position is set to Current Position by default in the configuration file. The Transfer mode is set to Buffered by default. Do not change the transfer mode.
- Enable Overscanning in the layer settings to prevent the edges from being burned black.
- You can switch between Laserbox basic and LightBurn after turning on the power switch of xTool D1. To switch, power off xTool D1 and then power it on again.
- To use LightBurn to control xTool D1, set the Scanning Offset Adjust parameters for optimal engraving performance. These are set by default in the xTool_D1_Prefs configuration file. If you have imported the configuration file, these parameters do not need to be set.
