Before You Start

? NOTE: If you have already installed at least one HEOS device, skip to the “Adding More HEOS Devices” section (→ p. 16).

System Requirements

Before starting the setup of your first HEOS device, ensure you are aware of and meet several basic requirements.

Network Requirements

  • Wireless Router: To use your HEOS music system, you must have a working wireless (Wi-Fi) or Ethernet network in your home. Even when connected to an Ethernet network, a Wi-Fi connection to the router is necessary to control the system using the HEOS control app. If you do not have a wireless network, contact a local Denon dealer or an electronics retailer for assistance with purchasing and installing a home wireless network.
  • High-Speed Internet Connection: HEOS accesses the Internet to stream music in your home from various popular online music services. HEOS is also designed to provide software updates, which are sent via your home Internet connection. ADSL, cable, and fiber services provide the best experience and reliability. You may experience performance issues with slower Internet connections, such as satellite services.

Hardware Requirements

Use the DSW-1H with existing HEOS devices.

For the purpose of introducing improvements, specifications and design of the equipment are subject to change without notice.

? NOTE: The HEOS app and brand are not affiliated with any mobile device manufacturer. The availability of music services may vary by region. At the time of purchase, not all services may be available. Some services may be added or suspended periodically based on the decisions of music service providers or others.

Setting up your first DSW-1H

Once you have placed your DSW-1H in the room where you want to listen to music and downloaded the HEOS app, you can set up your DSW-1H for music playback. This involves following a few simple steps to connect the DSW-1H to your existing home network:

⚠️ Caution:

  • Do NOT connect the Ethernet cable if you are connecting your DSW-1H to a wireless network. If you are connecting the DSW-1H to a wired network, use an Ethernet cable to connect the DSW-1H to your network or router.
  1. Ensure your mobile device is connected to the wireless network (the same network to which you want to connect your DSW-1H). You can check this in the Settings – Wi-Fi menu of your iOS or Android device.
  2. Have the included 3.5mm setup cable (1/8 inch) ready.
  3. Launch the HEOS app on your mobile device.
  4. Tap the “Configure Now” button at the top of the screen.
  5. Follow the instructions to add the DSW-1H to your wireless network. Your mobile device’s Wi-Fi settings will be copied to the DSW-1H via the audio cable.

? NOTE: If you have trouble connecting your HEOS device, go to the Troubleshooting section (→ p. 25).

Adding More HEOS Devices

The HEOS wireless multi-room audio system is a true multi-room audio system that automatically synchronizes audio playback between multiple HEOS devices, so the audio from different rooms is perfectly synchronized and always sounds spectacular! You can easily add up to 32 devices to your HEOS system.

Adding HEOS Devices with Cable

Simply connect HEOS devices to your home network using an Ethernet cable, and the HEOS devices will appear in your HEOS app as a new room on the “Rooms” screen. For your convenience, you can assign a name to the HEOS devices to indicate the room where you have placed them.

  • Use only a shielded STP or ScTP LAN cable, which can be easily purchased at any electronics store (CAT-5 or higher type is recommended).
  • Do not connect a network connector directly to the computer’s LAN/Ethernet connector port.

Adding HEOS Wireless Devices

You can add additional HEOS wireless devices to your HEOS system by selecting “Add Device” from the HEOS app settings menu and following the instructions:
