Typical Applications

NetWay4EB/NetWay4EWPN Application (Fig. 2)

This diagram illustrates a typical application for the NetWay4EB/NetWay4EWPN using a hybrid cable. IP devices (supporting 802.3af/802.3at) are connected to Ports 1-4. A master reset button and heartbeat/ALOS LEDs are visible. The unit connects to a 48-56V UL Listed ITE Power Supply and a Fiber Switch via a hybrid cable. The diagram emphasizes observing polarity for connections.

Power Distance Chart

The Power Distance Chart details maximum distances based on power requirements (15W to 120W) and power cabling gauge (12/2 or 16/2). For example, at 30W with 12/2 cabling, the maximum distance is 5,581 ft (1702m), while with 16/2 cabling, it is 2,207 ft (673m). These estimates are based on a 56VDC starting voltage with a 10-volt drop and account for IEEE 802.3at standards.

Configuring Unit for Network Connection

VLANs

VLANs (Virtual Local Area Networks) segment networks to group devices, improve traffic flow, and enhance security. Planning VLAN setup is crucial for managing device access.

Configuring VLAN on the Altronix Netway4E Series Switch:

  1. Ensure your Laptop or PC is connected to a port that will be assigned to your first VLAN configuration. By default, the management portion is assigned to VLAN-1. CAUTION: Changing the default VLAN ID 1 should be done with caution and locally, as it will drop the current connection. Local access is then required for reconnection. Note: Only this VLAN network allows access to IP management.
  2. In the Network Section, click on the VLAN Tab.
  3. Click 'Add VLAN'.
  4. Enter a name for the VLAN.
  5. Enter a VLAN ID (e.g., 10, 20). Ensure this VLAN ID is associated with a VLAN setup on the main switch and that your programming device is on the same ID. Note: VLAN ID can range from 2-4094.
  6. Assign VLAN QoS (Quality of Service) priority (0 = Lowest, 7 = Highest).
  7. Select a Trunk port (Tagged Ports) for main network traffic connections to switches or WAPs.
  8. Select Access port(s) (Untagged Ports) associated with the VLAN, typically used for cameras. Ensure your laptop or PC is connected to one of these ports if programming locally.
  9. Save Configuration.
  10. Repeat steps 2-9 to add additional VLANs. If programming is lost, try moving your PC to a correct port on the main switch or perform a factory reset.

Advanced Port Settings:

Factory Reset Option

  1. Power down the unit and wait approximately 30 seconds for it to power down completely.
  2. Depress the Master Reset button on the NetWay4EB while reapplying power to the unit (refer to Fig. 3b, pg. 6 and Fig. 4, pg. 7).
  3. Continue holding the button until the LEDs on the board cycle through the startup sequence, then release the button.
  4. The unit will return to its original factory settings.

Typical VLAN Setup (Fig. 5)

This diagram illustrates a typical VLAN setup. Example VLAN ID 20 is shown for ports 3-4, and VLAN ID 10 for ports 1-2. The setup includes a Trunk port (carrying VLAN ID 10 and 20) connecting to a Host Switch via fiber. Ethernet ports can be used for VLAN Pass Thru, allowing connections to other switches (e.g., with VLAN ID 0 and/or 20).
