Maintenance
Zero-M Technology: Shark's Zero-M™ self-cleaning brushroll delivers non-stop hair removal. Check for blockages or objects caught in the brushroll if you run over a hard or sharp object or notice a noise change. Visible hair wrap on the brushroll will eventually make its way to the dust cup.
Cleaning the Brushroll:
- Use a coin to turn locks counterclockwise, then lift the door to access the brushroll.
- Debris Wrapped Around Brushroll: Clean off any debris on the bristles. If hair is wrapped, extending cleaning time will help Zero-M technology remove it. If fibers remain, carefully cut debris with scissors.
- Debris Behind Brushroll: If you run over a hard or sharp object or notice a noise change, check for blockages behind the brushroll. Clear away any dust, dirt, or blockages in the Debris Intake. To close the cover, push down until it clicks, then close the locks with a coin.
Cleaning Filters:
Regularly clean and replace filters to maintain suction power. Rinse with cold water only and allow to air-dry completely (at least 24 hours) before reinstalling.
Pre-Motor Filters (Foam & Felt): Clean every 3 months. Remove dust cup, then lift out filters.
HEPA Filter: Clean every year. Press down the top of the filter door, tilt and lift it out. Press the tab at the top of the HEPA filter and pull it away from the vacuum base. To reinstall, insert the HEPA filter and replace the filter door.
Replacing Filters:
- Pre-Motor Filter: Replace every 2.5 years.
- HEPA Filter: Replace every 3 years.
Whole-Home Cleaning
Floor Cleaning:
- Hard Floor (Setting I): Press switch to I for hard floor surfaces and small area rugs.
- Carpet (Setting II): Press switch to II for low and high pile carpet cleaning.
- To engage the brushroll, step on the floor nozzle and tilt the handle back.
Suction Control: Adjust suction using the slider on the handle. Use MIN for reduced suction on carpets and MAX for increased suction on bare floors.
Above-Floor Cleaning:
- Above-Floor-Wand: Press the Wand Release button to detach the wand from the pod.
- Above-Floor-Handle: Press the Handle Release button to detach the handle from the wand.
- Attach desired cleaning accessory to the handle or wand.

Checking for Blockages

Brushroll Area: Use a coin to turn locks counterclockwise, lift the door, and check for debris wrapped around or behind the brushroll. Clear any blockages.
Hose and Pod: Detach hose from vacuum pod and check hose and opening on the back of the pod for blockages. Detach wand from floor nozzle and handle, and check both ends for blockages. Detach wand from power unit, lay unit down, and check opening for blockages. Detach handle from wand and hose from vacuum pod, and check openings for blockages.
Troubleshooting
Vacuum is not picking up debris. No suction or light suction:
- Check filters for cleaning needs. Rinse and air-dry filters before reinserting.
- Empty the dust cup.
- Check hose, connections, nozzle, wand, pod, and accessories for blockages. Clear any blockages.
- If string, carpet fibers, or hair are wrapped around the brushroll, extend cleaning time for Zero-M™ technology to remove it. If fibers remain, remove the floor nozzle cover and carefully cut debris with scissors.
Vacuum lifts area rugs:
- Ensure the Power/Surface switch is set to Hard Floor (setting I).
- Suction is powerful; use caution on area rugs or rugs with delicate edges.
Brushroll does not spin in carpet cleaning mode:
- If the Brushroll Indicator Light turns red, turn off and unplug the vacuum. Remove pod from floor nozzle and clear any blockages. Reconnect, plug in, and turn on.
- With power on, recline the handle to automatically turn on the brushroll.
- Ensure the Power/Surface switch is set to Carpet (setting II) for the brushroll to spin.
Vacuum turns off on its own or indicator light flashes red:
The vacuum has a motor-protective thermostat. If it overheats, the motor turns off. To restart:
- Turn off and unplug the vacuum.
- Empty dust cup and clean filters.
- Check for blockages in hose, accessories, and inlet openings.
- Allow the unit to cool for at least 45 minutes.
- Plug in and turn on the vacuum.
- Restart the unit with the Power/Surface switch.
