CMOS® Technology

Sensirion's CMOS® flow sensor technology is based on thermal micro-sensors, optimized for flow rates up to 100 ml/min. The integrated digital CMOS® microchip is the core component of Sensirion's products, precisely measuring flow through the sensor's channel, bonded to the outside of the channel wall. Sensirion's liquid flow meters feature a completely isolated fluid path with no moving parts. Sensirion offers the world's smallest and most accurate liquid flow meters, inspiring new designs and applications across various industries. With excellent reliability and media compatibility, Sensirion sensors are ideal for medical and life sciences, diagnostics, semiconductor manufacturing, industrial automation, and energy management.

Beyond the sensor element, the CMOS® chip integrates complete digital intelligence and memory for signal linearization, temperature compensation, and self-test algorithms. Various digital (I2C, RS485, USB) or analog output options are available for easy testing and seamless integration. Fast, Small, Reliable

Sensirion's standard liquid flow meters offer exceptional value, eliminating the need for costly development of custom OEM sensors. They feature inert wetted materials for excellent process compatibility, standard fluid connectors for quick integration into fluidic lines, and downward-facing connectors for compact integration into piping systems. By utilizing capillaries of different diameters, Sensirion's liquid flow meters cover a flow range of more than six orders of magnitude, from single-digit nanoliters to one liter per minute.

Diagram illustrating the principle of CMOS® liquid flow sensing: A micro-sensor chip with a heater and temperature sensors is integrated into a fluid channel. Fluid flow causes temperature changes detected by the sensors, which are then processed digitally.

Examples of flow rates: Mosquito blood-sucking (approx. 10 nanoliters/min), Pen (approx. 10 microliters/min), Syringe (approx. 5 milliliters/min), Espresso machine (approx. 500 milliliters/min).

Sensirion can measure flow rates from single-digit nanoliters per minute up to hundreds of liters per minute.
