Delicious Coffee Made Easily

Drip coffee machines are essentially automatic pour-over machines, and with pour-over coffee experiencing a resurgence, now might be the perfect time to try a drip coffee machine.

The Gevi drip coffee machine gets going with the flip of ON/OFF button, heating water to the optimal temperature for full flavor extraction. Coffee brews into the improved glass carafe that is engineered for comfortable handling and drip-free pouring. All you need to do is sit back, sip and enjoy!

Its compact design makes it small enough to be used for a small household or second home, without sacrificing the features we love. Its Grab-A-Cup auto pause capability allows you to pour a cup before the brewing cycle is finished.

1. Important Safeguards

To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and/or injury to persons, basic safety precautions should always be followed when using electrical machines, including the following:

  1. Read all instructions.

  5. Turn the coffee machine OFF and unplug the power cord from the power source when the coffee machine is not in use and before cleaning. Allow the coffee machine parts to cool down before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning the machine.
  6. Do not operate any machine with a damaged cord or plug or after the machine malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return machine to the nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair or adjustment.
  7. The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the machine manufacturer may result in fire, electric shock or injury to persons.
  8. Do not use outdoors. For household use only.
  9. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
  10. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  11. Always attach plug to machine first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to off position, then remove plug from wall outlet.
  12. Do not use machine for other than intended use.
  13. Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during brewing cycles. Be careful not to get burned by the steam.
  14. Never use the machine if the carafe shows any signs of cracks or carafe having a loose or weakened handle. The glass carafe is designed for use with this machine only. It must never be used on the range top.
  15. The container is designed for use with this machine. It must never be used on a range top. (Unless specific instructions for use on a range top are provided and include the precautions to be observed).
  16. Do not set a hot container on a wet or cold surface.
  17. Do not use a cracked container or a container having a loose or weakened handle.
  18. Do not clean container with cleansers, steel wool pads, or other abrasive material.
  19. Avoid contacting with moving parts.
  20. Do not place cloth beneath the machine or otherwise restrict airflow.
  21. Use only the Gevi filter with this unit. Other filters may cause the machine to overflow.
  22. Do not operate the machine in a machine garage or under a wall cabinet. When storing in a machine garage, always unplug the unit from the electrical outlet. Not doing so could create a risk of fire, especially if the machine touches the walls of the garage or the door touches the unit as it closes.
  23. This machine is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instructions concerning use of the machine by a person responsible for their safety.
  24. Some parts of the machine are hot when it operates, so do not touch with hand. Use handles or knobs only.
  25. Do not let the coffee machine operate without water.
  26. There would be potential injury from misuse.
  27. Be careful of the residual heat of heating element after use.
  28. Never leave the empty carafe on the warming plate, otherwise the carafe is liable to crack.

North American models with grounded plugs:

POLARIZED PLUG

This machine has a polarized plug, (one blade is wider than the other). As a safety feature to reduce the risk of electrical shock, this plug is intended to fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature or modify the plug in any way. If the plug fits loosely into the AC outlet or if the AC outlet feels warm do not use that outlet.

POWER CORD INSTRUCTIONS:

A short power-supply cord (or detachable power-supply cord) may be provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. Longer detachable power- supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use. If a long detachable power-supply cord or extension cord is used:

Do not pull, twist or otherwise abuse the power cord.

5. The Quest For Perfect Coffee

5.1 Filling Water

Water quality is crucial for coffee flavor. Ensure water is free from chlorine, bad tastes, and odors.

5.2 Roast Degree of Coffee Beans

5.3 Grind Size

Medium size coffee grinds are recommended. Finer grinds can lead to over-extraction and bitterness, and may clog the filter. Coarser grinds can result in under-extraction and weak flavor.

5.4 Grind Dose

Cups Recommended Amounts Of Coffee
2 CUPS 20g (4 Tablespoons)
3 CUPS 30g (6 Tablespoons)
4 CUPS 40g (8 Tablespoons)

TIPS: 10g or 2 flat spoons of coffee grinds per cup is recommended, but adjust to personal taste.

5.5 Choosing Filter

5.6 Water Volume

Match the water volume in the tank to the amount of coffee grounds. For example, 20g of grounds requires 2 cups of water. Insufficient water will result in weak coffee. For a bolder taste, use 1.5 cups of water.

5.7 Closing the Cover

Firmly close the one-piece cover to prevent steam from escaping and causing scalding.

5.8 Placing Carafe

Close the carafe lid, ensuring it rests against the filter insert's drip stop.

TIPS: Do not make coffee with used grounds, as it reduces flavor. Reheating coffee is not recommended; enjoy it immediately after brewing for peak flavor.

6. Operation Guide

Follow these steps to operate the coffee machine:

  1. Hold the handle and take the coffee carafe out from the coffee machine.
  2. Fill the glass carafe with fresh and clean water, not exceeding the marking.
  3. Hold the coffee machine and open the one-piece cover.
  4. Pour the water from the carafe into the water tank.
  5. Check that the filter insert is in place, with either the permanent filter or a disposable paper filter (do not use both).
  6. Add the desired amount of coffee powder into the filter, not exceeding 40g.
  7. Close the one-piece cover securely.
  8. Hold the handle and place the glass carafe onto the warming plate.
  9. Insert the power plug into a 120V AC power outlet.
  10. Press the ON/OFF button to the "I" position to switch on the machine; the ON/OFF indicator will illuminate.
  11. The coffee machine will begin the brewing cycle.
  12. After brewing, the machine will automatically keep the coffee warm. Turn it off by pressing the ON/OFF button to "O". For best taste, consume coffee within 1 hour.

NOTE:

  • Keep body away from the steam outlet of the coffee machine cover to avoid scalding.
  • Do not open the one-piece cover during brewing to prevent steam escape and scalding.
  • Do not place body parts under the drip stop while the machine is operating.
  • You can remove the carafe to pour a cup or two while coffee is brewing. The drip stop will close automatically. Replace the carafe within 30 seconds to avoid overflow.

Cleaning After Brewing (Steps 14-21)

To maintain optimal taste, complete these cleaning steps before each brewing session:

  1. Remove the coffee carafe.
  2. Open the one-piece cover to take out the filter and filter insert with drip stop.
  3. Take out the filter and discard the used coffee grounds.
  4. Clean the filter with water and dry it.
  5. Clean the filter insert with drip stop with water and dry it. If the drip stop is detached, reinstall it properly.
  6. Wipe the filter basket and showerhead with a clean, dry cloth.
  7. Put the filter insert with drip stop and permanent filter back onto the machine correctly.
  8. Wipe the outside of the machine with a semi-dry cloth.
  9. Wait for 10 minutes for the machine to cool down, then wipe the warming plate.
  10. Rinse the coffee carafe with clean water.
  11. Put the coffee carafe back on the machine.

7. Grab-A-Cup Auto Pause Feature

  1. The Grab-A-Cup Auto Pause feature allows you to pour a cup before the brew cycle is complete. It stops brewing temporarily, allowing you to pour, and then resumes once the carafe is replaced.
  2. Replace the carafe within 30 seconds to prevent overflow and mess. If coffee drips onto the warming plate, the drip stop may not be fully closed; immediately replace the carafe to allow all coffee to flow in.
  3. Using this feature may slightly weaken the overall flavor strength of the pot, as the flavor profile of coffee brewed at the beginning differs from that brewed later.

8. Cleaning & Maintenance

8.1 Before Use

  1. Do not let foreign objects enter the water tank.
  2. Using pure water is recommended.
  3. The cup quantity markings on the carafe correspond to the water tank levels. Fill the carafe and then transfer water to the tank.
  4. Do not add more than 4 cups of water into the water tank, as it may leak from the overflow hole.
  5. Ensure coffee preparation follows the guidelines in sections 5.1-5.8.
  6. Do not make coffee with used coffee grounds, as this reduces flavor. Reheating coffee is not recommended; it is best enjoyed immediately after brewing.

8.2 In Use

  1. Keep your body away from the steam outlet of the coffee machine cover to avoid scalding.
  2. Do not open the one-piece cover during brewing to prevent steam escape and scalding.
  3. Do not place body parts under the drip stop while the machine is operating.
  4. You can remove the carafe to pour a cup or two while coffee is brewing. The drip stop will close automatically. Replace the carafe within 30 seconds to avoid overflow.

8.3 After Use

  1. If 4 cups of water were used, the final coffee output may be less than the "4" cup marking due to evaporation and absorption by coffee grounds.
  2. Brew coffee separately if a large quantity is needed but will not be consumed at once.
  3. After brewing, the machine automatically switches to warm keeping. Turn it off by pressing the ON/OFF button to "O".
  4. To pour coffee, press the carafe lid closed with your fingers and tilt the carafe slowly to a 45-degree angle.
  5. Follow cleaning instructions carefully to maintain coffee flavor and machine lifespan.

After Each Brew

Clean coffee grounds from the filter after each use. For detailed cleaning steps, refer to pages 16, steps 14-25 in section "6. Operation Guide".

After 100 Uses (Descaling Process)

Regular descaling is recommended to maintain performance.

  1. Fill the water tank with water to the 4-cup (600mL) marking.
  2. Add 12g of descaler to the water tank and mix evenly.
  3. Place the coffee carafe onto the warming plate.
  4. Plug in the machine.
  5. Press the ON/OFF button to start brewing.
  6. When the water level in the tank reaches 2 cups, press the ON/OFF button to "O" to stop the machine.
  7. Let the machine stand for 5 hours to allow the descaling solution to soak and dissolve limescale.
  8. After 5 hours, press the ON/OFF button to "I" to pour the remaining 2 cups of descaling solution.
  9. Wait until no more descaling solution comes out, then press ON/OFF to "O" to stop the machine.
  10. Take out the coffee carafe and pour away the descaling solution.
  11. Add 4 cups of water to the coffee carafe.
  12. Pour the water from the carafe into the water tank.
  13. Repeat steps 10-15 several times with clean water to rinse thoroughly.
  14. Place the coffee carafe onto the warming plate.
  15. Press the ON/OFF button to "I" to start brewing with clean water.
  16. When all the water is poured out, press ON/OFF to "O" to stop the machine.
  17. Repeat steps 11-15 several times until all residual descaling solution is removed.

Note on Water Output: If 5 hours is insufficient for descaling, let the solution soak for 3 days. Other steps remain the same.
