Additional Safety Rules for Inflators

  1. Inflate items only to their manufacturer's recommendations or less.
  2. Do not leave the Inflator running unattended. It could burst tires or other items. (Maximum capacity - 150 p.s.i.)
  3. Never "horseplay". High pressure air is dangerous. Do not direct air-flow at yourself or others.
  4. Never carry the inflator by the hose.
  5. Operate only with the accessories included.
  6. Turn off and unplug the Inflator when not in use.
  7. Allow the Inflator to cool for 30 minutes before storing it.

Operation and Features

Power Requirements

Ensure your power supply matches the nameplate marking (120 Volts 50/60 Hz or "AC only"). The tool must be operated with alternating current (normal 120-volt house current) and never with direct current.

A voltage decrease of more than 10 percent can cause loss of power and overheating. All Black & Decker tools are factory tested. If the tool does not operate, check the power supply.

A full discussion of Double Insulation can be found on page 7.

Polarized Plug

This product may be supplied with a polarized plug, which has one blade wider than the other. This plug fits into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into your outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install a proper polarized outlet. Do not modify this plug.

Diagram Description: A polarized plug with one wider blade.

Switch

The "OFF" - "ON" switch is located at the rear of the inflator, above the cord, in the cavity that serves as a carrying handle. To turn the tool on, slide the switch to the right, exposing the word "ON". To turn it off, slide the switch to the left, exposing the word "OFF".

Diagram Description: The switch is located in a recessed area at the rear of the unit.

Air Hose and Universal Valve Adaptor

Your Inflator is provided with a 6-foot long hose and a permanently attached Universal Valve Adaptor.

To attach the hose, screw the plastic threaded fitting into the hole in the ribbed end of the tool (the end opposite the cord). CAUTION: DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN THE PLASTIC THREADS.

After running the inflator in a non-pressurized condition for about five minutes, observe that the hose fitting may become loose. This is normal. While the tool is still warm, tighten the fitting snugly (up to two full turns). It should not work loose again.

For a leak-free connection, the use of Teflon® plastic tape on the threads is recommended (available at local hardware stores).

To operate the valve adaptor, position the lever straight up. Push the valve adaptor down over the threaded section of a tire valve or one of the provided accessories. Press the lever down to lock it in place over the threads.

Another diagram shows the adaptor with a lever, illustrating how to lift the lever to release it. A third diagram shows the adaptor being attached to a tire valve, with instructions to push down and press the lever.

NOTE: Make sure the Universal Valve Adaptor is firmly locked in place before turning the Inflator on.

Nozzles

The Extension Nozzle and the Needle Inflator Nozzle are provided with your tool. Both nozzles can be stored in the bottom of the tool.

Diagram Description: A line drawing shows the Extension Nozzle and the Needle Inflator Nozzle. Another diagram shows the bottom of the tool where these nozzles can be stored.

CAUTION: DO NOT USE THIS TOOL TO INFLATE TIRES WITH SPLIT RIMS.

Pressure Gauge

Your Air Station is equipped with a built-in pressure gauge that provides readings in P.S.I. (pounds per square inch). The gauge is located on the top of the Inflator.

To obtain an accurate pressure measurement, turn the Inflator OFF when reading the gauge. This procedure eliminates back pressure that can cause an inaccurate reading. The gauge has an accuracy of +/- 3% at any pressure reading.

Diagram Description: A close-up of the top of the Air Station unit showing the "PRESSURE GAUGE".

Air Accelerator Attachment

The Air Accelerator Attachment is ideal for inflating or deflating air mattresses, small boats, inflatable toys, and other items requiring a large volume of low-pressure air.

It is designed to couple the Air Station's airflow with air drawn from outside to produce a low-pressure airflow that drastically reduces inflation times.

The attachment comes with three nozzles of varying sizes and an enlargement collar for different inflatable valve sizes.

Inflation:

  1. Select the best fitting nozzle for your inflatable and install it on the end of the Air Accelerator Attachment marked with an arrow.
  2. Use the enlargement collar with the largest nozzle if the inflatable's air inlet is extra large.
  3. The attachment can be used without nozzles if the inflatable's valve is large enough. Insert the output end (direction arrow toward inflatable) into the valve.
  4. Install the Universal Valve Adaptor from your Air Station onto the side inlet tube of the Air Accelerator Attachment. Align the dot on the back section of the attachment with the word "INFLATE".
  5. Insert the nozzle into the inflatable and turn on the Air Station.

When using the Air Accelerator Attachment, disregard the pressure gauge reading, as it only measures pressure at the inflator, not in the inflatable.

Many inflatables have an internal flap that prevents air loss. Ensure the nozzle or attachment end pushes this flap out of the way for proper inflation.

Deflation:

To deflate items, remove and reverse the direction of the Air Accelerator Attachment (airflow always in the direction of the arrow). Rotate the rear section to align the dot with the word "DEFLATE", closing the windows. Push the nozzle into the valve far enough to move the flap out of the way.

Diagram Description: A diagram shows the Air Accelerator Attachment with its components: a side inlet tube, an airflow arrow, a nozzle, and an optional enlargement collar. Another diagram illustrates the attachment being used for inflation, showing the "INFLATE" setting and airflow. A third diagram shows the attachment being used for deflation, indicating the "DEFLATE" setting and reversed airflow.

Hint: If an inflatable is not firm enough, rotate the windows closed and place your thumb over the DEFLATE end to connect the inflator directly.

The smallest nozzle is included for inflatables with very small inflation holes, though it may not significantly improve inflation time.

Larger inflation holes on inflatables allow for faster inflation and deflation.

The Air Accelerator Attachment can also be used with the Black & Decker Air Pump and other 120-volt inflators.

Maintenance

Cleaning Plastic Parts

Turn OFF and Unplug the Inflator before cleaning.

Use only mild soap and a rag dampened with hot water to clean the plastic parts. Avoid all other types of detergents, cleaners, or solvents, which might contain chemicals that could seriously damage the plastic.

Extension Cords

Double insulated tools have 2-wire cords and can be used with 2-wire or 3-wire extension cords. Only round jacketed extension cords should be used, and it is recommended that they be listed by Underwriter's Laboratories (U.L.). If the extension cord will be used outdoors, it must be suitable for outdoor use. The letters "WA" on the cord jacket indicate suitability for outdoor use.

An extension cord must have adequate wire size (AWG - American Wire Gauge) for safety and to prevent loss of power and overheating. A smaller gauge number indicates a greater cable capacity (e.g., 16 gauge has more capacity than 18 gauge). When using multiple extensions to achieve total length, ensure each individual extension meets the minimum wire size requirement.

CHART FOR MINIMUM WIRE SIZE (AWG) OF EXTENSION CORDS

10.1-13.01616141414121212
13.1-15.01414121212121212

Before using an extension cord, inspect it for loose or damaged wires, damaged insulation, and defective fittings. Make any needed repairs or replace the cord if necessary. Black & Decker offers U.L. listed extension cords for outdoor use.

Double Insulation

Your tool is DOUBLE-INSULATED to provide added safety. This means it is constructed with two separate "layers" of electrical insulation, or one double thickness of insulation, between you and the tool's electrical system. Tools built with this system are not intended to be grounded, hence they have a two-prong plug. This allows you to use any conventional 120-volt electrical outlet without concern for a ground connection.

NOTE: DOUBLE-INSULATION does not replace normal safety precautions. The insulation system is for added protection against injury from possible electrical insulation failure within the tool.

CAUTION: When servicing Double-Insulated Tools, USE ONLY IDENTICAL REPLACEMENT PARTS. Replace or repair damaged cords.
