Safety Precautions
Important: Special attention must be paid when using this test and measurement instrument, as improper usage can cause electric shock and damage the equipment.
- Use probes, test leads, and adapters with the correct Measurement Category (CAT), voltage, and amperage ratings for your measurement.
- Do not use or store the device in environments with explosive gases, vapors, or under high temperature and humidity.
- When handling test probes and crocodile clips, keep your fingers behind the physical guard.
- Before use, inspect test leads. If any part of the insulation is deteriorated (even partially), replace them with proper functional test leads.
- When connecting test leads, connect the common (black) lead first, then the live (red) lead. When disconnecting, remove the live (red) lead first, then the common (black) lead.
- Before measuring current, ensure the instrument's fuses are intact and disconnect the power supply to the circuit being tested.
- If the device will not be used for an extended period, or if stored in temperatures above 45°C, remove the batteries. Failure to do so may result in battery leakage and damage to the device.
Basic Operation Examples
The following examples illustrate common measurement procedures:
DC Voltage (V=) Measurement
Procedure:
- Connect the black test lead to the COM jack and the red test lead to the VΩmA jack.
- Turn the rotary dial to the V= (DC Voltage) setting.
- Connect the test leads to the circuit under test.
- Read the voltage value displayed on the screen. Example reading: 220V.
AC Voltage (V~) Measurement
Procedure:
- Connect the black test lead to the COM jack and the red test lead to the VΩmA jack.
- Turn the rotary dial to the V~ (AC Voltage) setting.
- Connect the test leads to the circuit under test.
- Read the voltage value displayed on the screen. Example reading: 220V.
DC Current (A-) Measurement
Procedure:
- Connect the black test lead to the COM jack and the red test lead to the ~10A jack.
- Turn the rotary dial to the A- (DC Current) setting.
- Connect the test leads in series with the circuit to measure current.
- Read the current value displayed on the screen. Example reading: 2.53A.
AC Current (A~) Measurement
Procedure:
- Connect the black test lead to the COM jack and the red test lead to the ~10A jack.
- Turn the rotary dial to the A~ (AC Current) setting.
- Connect the test leads in series with the circuit to measure current.
- Read the current value displayed on the screen. Example reading: 2.53A.
Resistance (Ω) Measurement
Procedure:
- Connect the black test lead to the COM jack and the red test lead to the VΩmA jack.
- Turn the rotary dial to the Ω (Resistance) setting.
- Connect the test leads across the resistor.
- Read the resistance value displayed on the screen. Example reading: 103.6Ω.
Capacitance (nF/μF) Measurement
Procedure:
- Connect the black test lead to the COM jack and the red test lead to the VΩmA jack.
- Turn the rotary dial to the nF/μF (Capacitance) setting.
- Connect the test leads to the capacitor. Ensure correct polarity for electrolytic capacitors.
- Read the capacitance value displayed on the screen. Example reading: 125.3μF.
Transistor Test (hFE)
Procedure:
- Insert the transistor (NPN or PNP) into the appropriate socket on the front panel.
- Turn the rotary dial to the hFE setting.
- Read the transistor gain (hFE) value displayed on the screen. Example reading: 100.
Temperature (°C) Measurement
Procedure:
- Connect the temperature probe to the COM jack and the VΩmA jack.
- Turn the rotary dial to the °C (Temperature) setting.
- Place the temperature probe tip on the object to measure temperature.
- Read the temperature value displayed on the screen. Example reading: 33°C.
Continuity Test (Beep)
Procedure:
- Connect the black test lead to the COM jack and the red test lead to the VΩmA jack.
- Turn the rotary dial to the <50Ω setting (indicated by a speaker or beep symbol ?).
- Touch the test leads to the two points of the circuit.
- If the resistance is below approximately 50Ω, the multimeter will emit a beep sound, indicating continuity.
