Mastech MS8233A Digital Multimeter Quick Start Guide
This guide provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your Mastech MS8233A Digital Multimeter.
Important Safety Precautions
Special attention must be paid when using this test and measurement instrument, as improper usage can lead to electric shock and damage to the equipment.
- Use proper measurement category (CAT), voltage, and amperage rated probes, test leads, and adapters for the measurement.
- Do not use or store the device in environments with explosive gas, vapor, or under high temperature and humidity.
- When handling test probes and crocodile clips, keep your fingers behind the physical guard.
- Examine the measuring test leads before use. If any part of the insulation is deteriorated, replace them with properly functioning test leads.
- Connect the common test lead before the live test lead, and remove the live test lead before the common test lead.
- Before measuring current, ensure the instrument's fuses are available and disconnect the power supply to the circuit being tested.
- Remove batteries if the device is not used for an extended period or if stored in temperatures above 45°C to prevent battery leakage and damage.

Measurement Examples
The following diagrams illustrate common measurement procedures:
Battery Test
Description: The image shows the process of opening the battery compartment, inserting batteries, and closing the compartment. It indicates the correct polarity for battery installation.
AC Voltage Measurement (V~)
Description: The diagram shows connecting the multimeter probes to a voltage source. The red probe is connected to the VΩmA jack, and the black probe to the COM jack. The dial is set to the appropriate AC voltage range (e.g., 200V). The display shows a reading of 220V.
DC Voltage Measurement (V⎓)
Description: The diagram illustrates measuring DC voltage. The probes are connected to a DC source, with the red probe in the VΩmA jack and the black probe in the COM jack. The dial is set to the DC voltage range (e.g., 20V). The display shows a reading of 12.3V.
DC Current Measurement (A⎓)
Description: This diagram shows how to measure DC current. The multimeter is connected in series with the circuit. The red probe is inserted into the 10A or mAμA jack (depending on the expected current), and the black probe is in the COM jack. The dial is set to the appropriate current range. The display shows a reading of 2.53A.
Resistance Measurement (Ω)
Description: The diagram demonstrates measuring resistance. The probes are connected across the component to be measured, with the red probe in the VΩmA jack and the black probe in the COM jack. The dial is set to the resistance range (e.g., 200kΩ). The display shows a reading of 1003Ω.
Diode Test
Description: This diagram shows the setup for a diode test. The probes are connected to the diode terminals, with the red probe to the anode (+) and the black probe to the cathode (-). The dial is set to the diode test mode. The display shows a reading of 0.6V, indicating a forward voltage drop.
Continuity Test (Beep Symbol)
Description: The diagram illustrates the continuity test. The probes are connected to the two points to be tested. The dial is set to the continuity test mode (indicated by a speaker or beep symbol). A reading of 25Ω is shown, and the device will beep if continuity exists (resistance is very low).
