5. Recommendations
5.1 Safety
Powering down the AXIUM DX8000: Disconnect the power supply adapter from the mains network.
Lithium cell: The internal lithium cell should only be accessed by a qualified technician.
Battery:
- Use only Ingenico-approved chargers and batteries.
- Do not short-circuit the battery.
- Do not attempt to open the battery container.
- Dispose of used batteries at designated collection sites.
Battery Lifespan: Depends on features used, number of charge/discharge cycles, and operating temperature.
⚠️ CAUTION: RISK OF EXPLOSION if the battery is replaced with an incorrect type. Dispose of used batteries according to instructions.
SAM1/SAM2/SIM1/SIM2 Readers compartment: The trapdoor for these components must be in place during normal operation.
On airplanes: Switch off the terminal by removing the battery pack when on an airplane. Non-compliance may result in legal action or network access bans.
Explosion areas: Comply with regulations restricting radio equipment use in hazardous areas. The terminal must be protected by a certified cover when used near fuel pumps.
Thunderstorm weather:
Avoid using wireless terminals during thunderstorms, as electromagnetic waves can conduct lightning.
Electronic health appliances:
The terminal may interfere with health appliances (e.g., hearing aids, pacemakers). Consult your doctor or the manufacturer for advice.
5.2 Security of your terminal
The device complies with current PCI PTS security requirements. Upon receipt and regularly thereafter, check for signs of tampering, such as loose keypads or unusual wires connected to ports. The terminal detects tampering and displays a "Warning Detected" message, rendering it unusable. Contact the helpdesk immediately if this message appears.
Ensure privileged access is granted only to verified, trustworthy staff. Never leave the terminal unattended or in a location where it could be stolen or replaced.
5.3 Fixed installation
If the cardholder cannot shield their PIN entry, the device must be installed as follows:
- Angle the device at 45° or more to prevent rear oversight of PIN entry.
- Use a swivel stand for adjustable angles or fix the device in a position that prevents oversight.
- Display conspicuous notices informing customers to shield their PIN during entry.
- Position the device to prevent oversight from other customers, potentially by aligning payment lanes or using the environment to shield the keypad.
- The terminal is intended for indoor use only.
ADVICE: Position terminals to make PIN spying infeasible. Use adjustable stands to allow customers to adjust viewing angles. Ensure security cameras do not capture PIN entry. Never ask customers for their PIN; advise them to ensure they are not being overlooked.
5.4 Cleaning the terminal
Good cleaning practices:
- Unplug all wires before cleaning.
- Apply soapy water or an approved cleaning product to a soft, non-abrasive cloth.
- IMPORTANT: Apply cleaning product to the cloth, NOT directly to the terminal, to prevent damage.
- Do not clean electrical connections.
- Avoid solvents, detergents, or abrasive products, as they can damage plastic or electrical contacts.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
- Do not insert anything other than credit cards into the smart card reader slot.
5.5 Transport and storage
When transporting:
- Protect from snow, rain, and excessive sun exposure.
- Handle with care to avoid mechanical impact.
- Do not throw the unit; prevent package intrusion during transport to avoid breakage. Store in original packaging.
- Do not store in warehouses with harmful gases, flammable, explosive, or corrosive chemicals.
- Avoid strong mechanical vibrations or magnetic fields.
- Store packaging at least 15 cm above the ground and 50 cm away from heat, cold, windows, or air inlets.
- Follow specific storage conditions noted in Section 4.
