Operation

First Use (Rinsing Circuits)

Before first use, rinse the internal circuits. Turn on the machine using the ON/OFF button (9). Wait for the indicator lights (20, 21, 22) to become solid. Insert the double shot filter (15) into the filter holder (3). Place a container under the group head (2) and press button (21). Repeat this 5 times. Place a container under the steam wand (7). Turn the steam knob (8) counter-clockwise to dispense 100ml of water. Turn the knob clockwise to finish. Rinsing is also recommended after periods of non-use.

Making Espresso

Use the appropriate filter (13 for pods, 14 for single shot ground coffee, 15 for double shot ground coffee) in the filter holder (3). Fill the filter with coffee grounds (use the measuring spoon (12) for correct dosage, approx. 7g for single, 14g for double). Tamp the coffee grounds evenly. Remove excess coffee from the rim. Insert the filter holder into the group head (2) and turn it clockwise until it locks. Place cup(s) under the spouts. Press the desired coffee button (20 for single, 21 for double). The machine will stop automatically. Wait a few seconds before removing the filter holder to prevent splashes.

Making Cappuccino

Heat the cups with hot water first. Fill a container with approx. 100ml of cold milk. Position the steam wand (7) into the milk. Turn the steam knob (8) counter-clockwise to activate steam. Create a vortex in the milk to froth it. Stop steaming when the desired temperature is reached by turning the knob clockwise. Clean the steam wand immediately with a damp cloth. Purge the steam wand to remove milk residue. For best results, use cold milk (approx. 5°C).

Adjusting Coffee Quantity

To set a custom coffee quantity, press and hold the desired coffee button (20 or 21) for at least 3 seconds until the indicator light stays solid. Press the button again to stop dispensing. The new quantity is saved.

Setting Coffee Temperature

Access the programming menu by pressing and holding button (23) for 5 seconds. Navigate to the temperature setting menu. Press button (20) to select temperature: Low, Medium, or High. The selected setting will flash.

Water Hardness Setting

The machine is pre-set to 'Hard water'. To adjust, use the provided test strip (18) to determine water hardness. Follow the strip's instructions. Navigate to the programming menu and press button (21) to select water hardness: Soft, Medium, or Hard, based on the test results. Using a Smeg water softener filter (optional) is recommended, and if installed, set the water hardness to 'Soft'.

Automatic Shut-off

The machine has an automatic shut-off feature for energy saving. To adjust the auto-off time, access the programming menu and press button (22) to select the desired time (10 min, 30 min, or 1 hour).

Cleaning and Maintenance

General Cleaning

Clean the exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth after they have cooled down. Do not use steam cleaners or abrasive/corrosive cleaning agents.

Drip Tray Cleaning

Remove the drip tray grid (4) and drip tray (6). Empty and clean them with a cloth. Dry and reassemble.

Filter Cleaning

Clean the coffee filters (13, 14, 15) regularly under running water. Use the cleaning needle (19) if the holes are blocked.

Steam Wand Cleaning

Clean the steam wand (7) immediately after use. Turn the steam knob (8) counter-clockwise to release steam and residual milk. Check the steam outlet for blockages and use the needle (19) if necessary. Purge steam for a few seconds after heating milk to clean the internal part of the wand.

Group Head Cleaning

Rinse the group head (2) every 200 coffees by dispensing approx. 500ml of water without coffee.

Water Tank Cleaning

Clean the water tank (11) monthly with a damp cloth and mild detergent.

Descaling

Descale the machine when the orange steam indicator light (22) flashes. Empty the water tank (11) and remove the water softener filter (if present). Fill the tank with a descaling solution mixed with water according to manufacturer's instructions. Place a container under the group head (2) and steam wand (7). Turn on the machine. Press and hold button (22) for 10 seconds until the orange light is solid. Turn the steam knob (8) counter-clockwise. Press button (22) to start descaling. The machine will automatically rinse. Empty and rinse the water tank. Refill with clean water and perform a rinse cycle by dispensing water through the group head and steam wand. Empty the tank again to complete the rinse cycle.

Note on Descaling Agents: Use only Smeg-recommended descaling agents to prevent damage.
