1. Hearing Aid Components
Your Signia Motion C&G SP IX hearing aid includes the following components:
- 1. Earhook: Connects the hearing aid to the tubing.
- 2. LED: Indicates the status of the hearing aid (e.g., turning on/off).
- 3. Microphone openings: Allow sound to enter the hearing aid.
- 4. Rocker switch: Used for controlling functions like volume and hearing programs, and for turning the hearing aid on/off.
- 5. Charging contact: Connects to the charger for recharging the hearing aid's battery.
- 6. Side indicator, serial number, and performance level: Markings on the hearing aid for identification.
LED Status:
The LED provides information about the hearing aid's power status:
LED Status | Description |
---|---|
LED glows for 6 seconds | The hearing aid is switching on. This occurs when removing the hearing aid from the charger or switching it on with the rocker switch. |
LED blinks for 3 seconds | The hearing aid is switching off. This occurs when switching the hearing aid off with the rocker switch. |
2. Turning Your Hearing Aids On or Off
You can turn your hearing aids on or off using the charger or the rocker switch.
Via the Charger:
- Turning on: Remove the hearing aids from the charger (ensure the charger is connected to power). A startup melody will play, and the LEDs will light up for 6 seconds. The default volume and hearing program are set.
- Turning off: Place the hearing aids into the charger (ensure the charger is connected to power).
Via the Rocker Switch:
- Turning on: Press and hold the lower part of the rocker switch until the startup melody begins and the LEDs light up. Release the switch. The default volume and hearing program are set.
- Turning off: Press and hold the lower part of the rocker switch for several seconds until a power-off melody plays and the LEDs blink. The hearing aids turn off when the LEDs stop blinking.
3. Inserting Your Hearing Aids
Your hearing aids are fine-tuned for your right and left ear. Colored markers indicate the side:
- Red marker: Right ear
- Blue marker: Left ear
Insertion Steps:
- Hold the tube close to the ear piece. Carefully push the ear piece into the ear canal. Twist it slightly until it fits well. Open and close your mouth to help avoid air accumulation in the ear canal.
- Lift the hearing aid and slide it over the top of your ear.
Tip: If you have difficulty inserting the ear piece, gently pull your earlobe downwards with your other hand. This opens the ear canal and eases insertion. It may be helpful to use the hand corresponding to the ear you are fitting (right hand for right ear, left hand for left ear).
4. Removing Your Hearing Aid
Removal Steps:
- Lift the hearing aid and slide it over the top of your ear.
- Hold the tubing close to the ear piece and carefully pull the ear piece out of the ear canal.

5. User Controls and Hearing Aid Adjustments
Your Hearing Care Professional can provide detailed information on your hearing aid's controls and available adjustments. They can configure the rocker switch to manage volume, hearing programs, and other settings.
- Your hearing aids automatically adjust volume and sound based on your listening situation. An optional signal can indicate volume changes. You may hear a tone when the maximum or minimum volume is reached. The rocker switch can also be used to change hearing programs.
- The miniPocket remote control can adjust volume and programs for your hearing aids.
- The Signia app allows you to change volume, hearing programs, and make other adjustments. Download the Signia app from the Apple App Store ? [App Store] or Google Play Store ▶️ [Google Play].
6. Charging Your Hearing Aids
Refer to your charger's user guide for detailed instructions and tips.
- Before placing hearing aids in the charger, clean the charging contacts (see Section 8).
- Place your hearing aids in the charger.
- A full charging cycle takes approximately 4 hours. After 30 minutes of charging, you can use the hearing aids for up to 6 hours. Charging times may vary based on usage and battery age.
- It is recommended to charge your hearing aids overnight for a full day's use.
7. Low Power Indication
You will hear an alert signal when the battery is running low. This signal repeats every 15-30 minutes until the hearing aid stops working and requires recharging. Once the low battery indicator is heard, you have approximately 1.5 hours of usage left, depending on your usage patterns.
8. Hearing Aid Maintenance and Care
Consult your Hearing Care Professional for assistance with care and maintenance of your hearing aids, eartips, and charger. They can recommend cleaning products, drying solutions, special care sets, and provide guidance on keeping your devices in good condition.
Cleaning Hearing Aids:
- Your hearing aids have a protective coating. Regular cleaning is essential to prevent damage or injury.
- Use a soft, dry tissue or cleaning tools/solutions recommended by your hearing care provider.
- Clean your hearing aids, charging contacts, and earmolds DAILY after removing them from your ears to prevent earwax from drying and hardening.
- Earwax accumulation on charging contacts can prevent charging.
- Earwax accumulation on earmolds may affect sound quality.
- Be careful not to damage the wax protection while cleaning.
- Never apply pressure while cleaning.
- Never use running water or immerse the hearing aids in water.
- Do not use alcoholic solvents on the charging contacts.
- Clean earpieces daily. Ask your Hearing Care Professional to clean tubes or exchange earpieces and tubes as needed.
Cleaning Charger:
- Disconnect the charger from the power supply.
- Clean the charger with a soft, dry tissue.
- Remove debris from the charging contacts. Debris accumulation can prevent charging.
- Never use running water or immerse the charger in water.
Drying:
Ask your Hearing Care Professional for recommended drying products and specific instructions on when to dry your hearing aids.
Storage:
- Short-term storage (up to several days): Turn off hearing aids via the rocker switch or place them in a powered charger. If the charger is not powered, the hearing aids do not turn off. If turned off via a remote or app, they enter standby mode and consume some power.
- Long-term storage (weeks, months, longer): Fully charge hearing aids, then turn them off via the rocker switch. Store with recommended drying products. Recharge hearing aids every 3 months to prevent power cell damage. Recharge every 6 months to avoid unrecoverable deep discharge, which requires power cell replacement.
