2. Device Interface Description
2.1 4K HDMI Video Recorder
The 4K HDMI Video Recorder features the following ports:
- 1. USB TYPE C: Power Input Only
- 2. LAN/POE+

- 6. LCD Screen

2.2 AV to HDMI Converter (Optional)
The optional AV to HDMI converter has the following ports:
- CVBS IN: For Yellow (Video), White (Audio L), Red (Audio R) RCA connectors.
- DC IN: For power input.
- HDMI OUT: Supports 16:9/4:3 aspect ratios.
3. LCD Screen Information
Recorder Screen
Displays status information including:
- Recorder Status
- Video Input (VI) resolution (e.g., 2160p1080p60)
- Audio Input (AI) level (e.g., LINE IN 50%)
- TF Card Free Space (e.g., 59 GB)
Playback Screen
Displays playback information including:
- Video Output (VO) resolution (e.g., 2160p30)
- Audio Output (AO) level (e.g., 100%)
- NAS Free Space (e.g., 216 GB)
- File Name
- Start Time
- Video Duration
- Size (MB)
4. Recorder Status
The recorder's status indicator lights change color based on the recording status:

5. Remote Control
The remote control allows operation of the recorder. Key functions include:
- Power: Long press for Standby/Resume.
- Menu: Accesses the main menu.
- REC/Stop: Starts or stops recording.
- Playback: Long press for playback mode.
- Volume +/-: Adjusts audio volume.
- Mute/Unmute: Toggles audio output.
- Navigation (Up/Down/Left/Right): Navigates menus and controls playback (fast forward/rewind).
- OK: Confirms selections.
- Snapshot: Takes a still image.
- OSD On/Off: Toggles the On-Screen Display.
6. Device Installation
6.1 Device Connection
- Step 1: Power Connection Connect the Type-C cable to your Type-C power adapter and attach the other end to the Type-C port on the ZowieRec device. Plug the power adapter into a power socket. The LCD screen will turn on, indicating the device is working. Use the original USB TYPE C power supply or one with a power output greater than 25W.
- Step 2: Connect Video Source
- For CVBS Video source (optional): Use the included DC jump cable to connect the DC Out port on ZowieRec to the DC IN port on the AV-to-HDMI converter. Connect the RCA cable from the video source's output port to the CVBS port on the converter. Connect the HDMI OUT port of the converter to the HDMI IN port on ZowieRec using the included HDMI cable. If using CVBS, call up the menu via the remote and select CVBS mode in Video Input.
- For HDMI video source: Use the HDMI cable to connect your video source (e.g., DVD player, gaming system) to the HDMI IN port on the ZowieRec.
- Step 3: Connect to TV/Monitor Connect an HDMI cable from the HDMI OUT port of ZowieRec to your TV or monitor.
- Step 4: Connect Storage Device Plug a USB storage device into the USB port of ZowieRec, or insert a TF card into the TF port.
- Step 5: Remote Control Setup Prepare two AAA batteries and insert them into the remote control's battery compartment. Press any button to wake up the remote. A connection indicator [✓] will appear on the recorder screen once the remote is connected.
6.2 Video Monitor Information
The screen displays monitoring information such as Recording Status, File Number, Device Time, Storage Device, and Capacity. An example display shows: [Stop] 18 06:05:29 210G

6.3 OSD Information
Press the OSD On/Off button [●] to show or hide the OSD menu, which displays basic recorder information. If HDMI is set to loop-out, the OSD menu will not be displayed, and status must be observed on the LCD screen. Long press the Menu button to switch to output mode to access the OSD menu.
When the loop-out mode is active, the icon [L] will appear on the LCD screen.
In playback mode, use the Left/Right buttons [◄►] for fast forward/rewind and Up/Down buttons [▲▼] to switch video files.
7. Device Operation
7.1 Record/Snapshot
- Connect the HDMI signal source and storage device. The recorder status light will turn green, indicating readiness.
- Press the REC/Stop button [■] to start recording. The status light will turn blue.
- Press the Snapshot button [●] to take a still image.
- During recording, a timer will appear on the OSD, and the status icon in the upper left corner will change to a recording indicator.
Tip: ZowieRec prioritizes the most recently inserted storage device.
7.2 Recording Setting
Press the Menu button [●] to access the menu settings. In Record Settings, you can configure:
- Video Resolution
- Video Codec (e.g., H.264)
- Video Quality
- Storage Device (e.g., TF Card, USB)
- Video Format
- File Split Type (e.g., ts)
- Auto-record on start (ON/OFF)
- Time Split (e.g., 15min)
In storage settings, you can set the default disk, eject, format, and measure disk speed.
7.3 Playback
Long press the Playback button [▶] or use the menu to access the playback list. Select a video file and press OK [●] to enter replay mode. Use Volume +/- buttons to adjust playback volume.
Tip: ZowieRec can be used for game recording. For reduced latency during game recording, it is recommended to enable HDMI Loopout.
7.4 Scheduled Recording
Access the menu, select Schedule Settings, then click Add Schedule. Configure the Recording mode and duration, then click Save.
7.5 Advanced Settings
This section is for advanced users, particularly for network and video live streaming configurations. ZowieRec supports Power over Ethernet (PoE/PoE+). For PoE, connect the LAN cable to a PoE network switch using at least a CAT5e cable.
Failsafe IP: If DHCP is unavailable or direct PC connection occurs, the ZowieREC IP defaults to 192.168.5.168. Add a 192.168.5.x address to your computer to log in to the Web console. Refer to the user manual for detailed PC settings. Default Admin Login: Username: admin; Password: admin.
8. Restore Factory Setting and Reboot
Access the menu settings, navigate to System Settings, and select Reboot or Restore factory default settings.
9. Firmware Upgrading
Download the upgrade package and unzip it. Copy the two files, md5.json
and ZOWIEREC.001.20250217.V1.1.0.3.img
, to the root directory of a USB or TF card. Ensure they are not in a folder, as this may cause the upgrade to fail.
Access the menu, select the upgrade option. The device will automatically check and upgrade. Do not power off the ZowieRec during the upgrade process.
10. Warranty
ZowieTek provides a one-year hardware warranty and a lifetime software warranty for the 4K HDMI Video Recorder.
