2. Device Interface Description
2.1 4K HDMI Video Recorder
1. USB TYPE C Input: Power input.
2. HDMI Output/Loop Out: HDMI output for display or loop-out.
3. LAN/POE+: Network connection, supports Power over Ethernet.
4. USB Port: For connecting USB storage devices.
5. HDMI Input: HDMI input for video sources.
6. LCD Screen: Displays device status and information.
7. Audio Input: For audio sources.
8. DC Output to AV2HDMI: DC output for the converter.
9. TF Card Slot: For inserting TF (microSD) cards.
10. Audio Output: For audio output.
11. LCD Screen: Recorder LCD screen.
3. LCD Screen Information
The recorder's LCD screen displays various statuses:
- Disk Status: Normal, Full, No Disk, Disk Error.
- Signal Status: Signal Detected, No Signal.
- Recording Mode: Recording (Blue), Pause (Flashing Blue), Playback (Blue), Playback Pause (Flashing Blue), Playback Stop (Green).
- Other Status: Format not supported/File corrupted (Yellow), Recording (Blue), Pause (Flashing Blue).
4. Recorder Status
The recorder's status indicator light changes color based on its operational state:
- Normal: Green light.
- Recording: Flashing blue light.
- Pause: Flashing blue light.
- Playback: Blue light.
- Playback Pause: Flashing blue light.
- Playback Stop: Green light.
- No Disk: Yellow light.
- Disk Error: Flashing yellow light.
- No Signal: Red light.
- Format Not Supported/File Corrupted: Yellow/White light.
5. Remote Control
The remote control allows operation of the recorder:
- Power Button: Short press for standby/resume, long press for output mode switching.
- Menu Button: Accesses the menu.
- Playback Button: Starts playback.
- Stop Button: Stops recording or playback.
- Play/Pause Button: Starts or pauses recording/playback.
- Volume +/-: Adjusts audio volume.
- Mute/Unmute Button: Mutes or unmutes audio.
- Directional Buttons (Up/Down/Left/Right): Navigates menus and controls playback.
- OK Button: Confirms selections.
- Snapshot Button: Takes a still image.
6. Equipment Installation
6.1 Device Connection
Step 1: Connect Power: Connect the Type-C cable to the Type-C power adapter and plug it into the ZowieRec Type-C port. Then, plug the adapter into a power outlet. The LCD screen will light up.
Note: Use the original USB Type-C power adapter or a power adapter with a capacity greater than 25W.
Step 2: Connect Video Sources
- CVBS Video Source (Optional): Connect the ZowieRec's DC OUT to the converter's DC IN using the included cable. Connect your video source (e.g., camera) to the converter's CVBS input using an RCA cable. Connect the converter's HDMI OUT to ZowieRec's HDMI IN using the included HDMI cable. To enable CVBS input, navigate to Video Input settings and select CVBS On.
- HDMI Video Source: Connect your video source (e.g., DVD player, game console) directly to ZowieRec's HDMI input port using an HDMI cable.
Step 3: Video Output: Connect ZowieRec's HDMI output port to your TV or monitor using an HDMI cable.
Step 4: Connect Storage Device: Insert a USB drive into the USB port or a TF card into the TF card slot.
Step 5: Remote Control Setup: Install two AAA batteries into the remote control. Press any key to activate it. The remote control icon will appear on the recorder's screen once connected.
6.2 Surveillance Information
Displays recording status, file count, storage capacity, and device time.
6.3 OSD Information
Press the OSD button to show or hide basic information. When HDMI is in loop-out mode, the OSD menu is not displayed, and recording status is only visible on the LCD screen. Long-press the OSD button to access the OSD menu and switch to output mode. Observe the LCD screen for recording status. When icon 2 shows <<< L >>, loop-out mode is active.
7. Equipment Operation
7.1 Recording/Snapshot
- Connect the signal source and storage. The recorder's status light turns green, indicating readiness.
- Press the Record button to start recording; the status light turns blue.
- Press the Snapshot button to capture a still image.
- During recording, a timer appears on the OSD, and the recording icon is shown in the upper-left corner.
Tip: ZowieRec prioritizes the most recently inserted storage device.
7.2 Recording Settings
Access the menu via the Menu button to configure recording settings such as video resolution, codec format, video quality, file format, and file segmentation.
7.3 Playback
Long-press the Playback button or access the playlist via the menu. Select a video file and press OK to enter playback mode. Use +/- buttons to adjust volume. Use directional buttons to fast forward, rewind, and switch video files.
7.4 Scheduled Video Recording
Access the menu, select "Schedule Settings," then "Add Schedule." Set the recording mode and duration, then click "Save."
7.5 Advanced Settings
This section is for advanced users. ZowieRec supports Power over Ethernet (PoE/PoE+). For PoE, connect your network cable to a PoE switch using at least a CAT5e cable.
8. Factory Reset and Restart
Access the menu, navigate to System Settings, and choose to restart or restore factory default settings.
9. Firmware Upgrade
Download the upgrade package, unzip it, and copy the two files (md5.json and ZOWIEREC.001.20250217.V1.1.0.3.img) to the root of your USB drive or TF card. Insert the storage device into ZowieRec. Access the menu, select the upgrade option, and the device will automatically check and upgrade. Do not turn off ZowieRec during the upgrade.

Connecting to ZowieRec
ZowieRec offers several connection methods:
- Via IP Address: DHCP is enabled by default. Find the IP address on the screen and enter it into your browser.
- Via mDNS: Enter http://ZowieREC-xxxxx.local in your browser. The mDNS URL is displayed at the bottom of ZowieRec.
- Via Hotspot: Search for the ZowieRec hotspot SSID and password at the bottom of the screen. Connect to it, then enter http://170.128.88.1 in your browser. You can also scan the QR code on the menu to connect directly.
- Via ZowieX: Download and install the ZowieX app to find Zowietek devices on your local network. Connect to the ZowieRec web console or manage multiple ZowieRec devices.
Security IP Address: If the network lacks DHCP or for other connection issues, ZowieRec's IP may default to 192.168.5.168. Add a 192.168.5.x address to your computer to connect to the Web console. Administrator username: admin; password: admin.
Remote Control Pairing: The Bluetooth remote is paired by default. To re-pair, ensure batteries are installed, connect to the web control interface, go to Settings -> Network -> Bluetooth, and search for the remote (default name: Zowietek).
Tip: For game recording, enable HDMI Loopout to reduce latency.
