Fitting Instructions
- Disassemble the bumper. Remove the exhaust from its suspension rubbers and lower it. The rubber at the back of the vehicle should remain on the fixation hook, not on the exhaust damper.
- Remove the fixation support of the plastic protection plate located at the bottom middle of the vehicle. Treat the cut surface with a rust-preventing agent.
- Position mounting pieces (1) on the left and (2) on the right, aligning them with points (A), (B), (C), and (D) on the provided screw-thread holes in the chassis beam. Insert the bolts but do not tighten them yet.
- Place the towbar, aligning points (E) and (F) between the mounting plates. Insert the bolts and tighten everything firmly according to the specified torque.
- Make an incision in the underside of the bumper according to Figure 1, and another incision in the plastic protection plate according to Figure 2. Reassemble the protection plate and the bumper onto the vehicle.
- Assemble the tow ball with the security shackle. Insert the bolts and tighten them firmly according to the specified torque.
Bumper Disassembly Steps
- Remove 2 small screws at the trunk entrance.
- Remove 4 plastic rivets from the underside of the bumper.
- Detach the sides and the middle section at the trunk entrance.
- Note: The bumper is typically fixed under the light units.
Important Notes
- Consult your car dealer or owner's manual for the maximum permissible towing mass.
- Remove any bitumen coating from the fastening points for the towbar.
- When drilling, be careful not to damage any brake lines, electrical wiring, or fuel lines.
Diagrams
Figure 1: Bumper Cutout
Diagram illustrating the area to be cut from the vehicle's bumper. The hatched area indicates the section to be removed. Labels 'B' (bumper), 'O' (lower rim of bumper), and 'M' (middle of bumper) identify specific parts of the bumper related to the cutout.
Figure 2: Plastic Protection Plate Cutout
Diagram showing the plastic protection plate with specific dimensions (20mm, 60mm) indicating the required cutout for fitting the towbar.
Figure 3: Clearance Specifications
Diagrams illustrating required clearance zones around the towbar hitch, with various angle and distance specifications (e.g., max 45°, min 140mm, 350-420mm range). These clearances are in accordance with guideline 94/20/EG, Appendix VII, Diagram 30.
Text accompanying the clearance diagrams states: "At laden weight of the vehicle" and refers to "Bij toelaatbaar totaal gewicht van het voertuig" (Dutch), "Pour poids total en charge autorisé du véhicule" (French), and "Bei zulässigem Gesamtgewicht des Fahrzeuges" (German).
General Instructions
Important: These instructions must be kept in the vehicle.
Fitting Precautions
- Ensure the towbar is not damaged during transport and is the correct model for the vehicle.
- Read and follow all fitting instructions precisely.
- Temporarily position the towbar under the car to verify alignment before final installation.
- If drilling is required, check for and avoid damaging wires. Remove soundproofing material, clean, and protect drilled holes with an anticorrosive product.
- For vehicles with special bumpers (sport or tuning parts), contact GDW technical service to confirm compatibility.
Guarantee Information
- Do not exceed the indicated towing weight, 'D', and 'S' values.
- The towbar must be inspected after 1,000 km of use and at least annually.
- During inspection: Check and retighten all bolts if necessary. Repair any paint damage. Replace any damaged components. Keep parts of the detachable towbar system well-greased.
- If the towbar is damaged due to extreme load, it must be replaced.
Usage Recommendations
- If the towball obstructs the number plate or fog light, it must be removed when not towing a trailer.
Important Advice (Wichtige Ratschläge)
Assembly (Montage)
- Before assembly, check the towbar for transport damage.
- Carefully follow the installation manual; all instructions must be observed.
- Compare the towbar with the vehicle first before mounting.
- When drilling holes, check for and avoid damaging existing cables. Remove soundproofing and underbody protection. Treat drilled holes and chassis parts with a corrosion-resistant paint.
- If the vehicle has non-standard bumpers (special series, sport versions, tuning, etc.), check the required cutout. If in doubt, contact GDW.
Guarantee (Garantie)
- Do not exceed the specified maximum towing load, 'D', and 'S' values.
- After 1,000 km of use and at least once a year, the towbar must be inspected: Check and retighten all bolt connections if necessary. Restore any paint damage. If the towbar is damaged by extreme load, it must be replaced. Grease the inner part of the detachable system.
Use (Gebrauch)
- If the towball covers the license plate or fog light, it must be removed when not in use.
