Stelpro continually reinvents the heating industry with a value-added philosophy based on design and technology. The company is established in the smart home market with its connected products and aims to be a major energy transition player.
1981-1990: Kick-off
Founded in Drummondville in 1981 by John Chabot, the company, then Chalair Électrik, made its mark by developing innovative products like the first open element construction heater and the smallest, quietest recessable residential fan heater (Pulsair/RWF).
1991-2000: Expansion and Acquisition
The company moved to Boucherville and acquired its competitor, Stelpro Chauffage Itée, in 1994, expanding into the Canadian market. Yves Chabot and his brother joined the company. The Dragon ceiling fan heater was launched.
2001-2004: Continued Expansion and Diversification
A new head office and plant were built in St-Bruno-de-Montarville. Chalair Électrik and Stelpro Chauffage merged to become Stelpro Design Inc. The company launched its heating cable division.
2005-2010: Consolidation
The second generation of Chabot brothers took over as Co-Presidents, consolidating leadership in Canada and entering the U.S. market. The Electronic Controls Division and HVAC Division were created, offering a full range of heating and control solutions. The B baseboard, the first with a built-in electronic thermostat, was launched.
2011-2016: New Vision
Yves Chabot became the sole president. The brand image and logo were revamped to reflect aspirations of "Stelpro, 360 Comfort".
2016-...: Growth
Stelpro continued its expansion across all product divisions and sales channels. The company focuses on value-added design and technology. The launch of the Maestro ecosystem positioned Stelpro in the connected home market, aiming to be a major energy transition player.
Key Milestones:
- October 31, 2019: Foundation of Stello, a joint venture with Hilo by Hydro-Québec, specializing in smart home products.
- May 5, 2021: Platinum Club winner in Canada's Best Managed Companies competition.
- 2018-2020: Expansion of the St-Bruno-de-Montarville plant by 65,000 sq. ft., enabling automation and robotization projects.
- November 2, 2020: Acquisition of Flextherm, a leader in the electric floor heating industry.
Stelpro has supported many community organizations and foundations since its inception.
Yves Chabot stated, "Across North America, the future of heating will undoubtedly be electric, and we're ready. Electricity has been part of our DNA for 40 years."
