Mechanical Installation
Installing the Device
The unit is designed for horizontal positioning for all models and vertical positioning for air upflow or downflow on 6" to 10" models. Securely attach the device to a solid support or mount from the ceiling using studs. Diagrams illustrate installation steps for MUAA06 120V-1P & 240/208V-1P Models and Other Models.
Choosing an Appropriate Location
- Ideally in a service room with temperatures between 10°C and 40°C.
- Close to an exterior wall to minimize insulated duct length.
- Away from electrical panels and fire hazards.
- Ensure easy access for maintenance; maintain a minimum clearance of 24 inches from the main entrance door.
- Maintain a minimum space of 1½ inches above the device.
Installing the Duct System
- Plan the simplest duct system with minimal elbows and joints.
- Keep insulated duct length minimal to prevent airflow restriction and improve ventilation.
- Do not install elbows less than twice the diameter of the device's duct.
- Use only rigid metal ducts.
- Insulate only the inlet ducts.
- Screw ducts as close as possible to the device to avoid blocking the backdraft damper.
Electrical Installation
Power Connection
Pierce a hole to pass the wire through. For models with a plenum kit, drill the box at the desired location. Connect the device to a 240V electrical power supply source as illustrated. Diagrams show connections for MUAA06 120V-1P & 240/208V-1P Models and Other Models.
Connecting the Low Power Control
For 6" 120V-1P and 240/208V-1P models, connect to a main wall control. Use #22 AWG wires for connections. For other models, a current switch is included as an interlock between the unit and the exhaust fan. Connect the current switch to the unit's terminal block. For the 6" 120V-1P & 240/208V-1P model, an auxiliary contact (external switch) can be connected to the terminal block to start the exhaust fan simultaneously. Diagrams illustrate these connections.
Electronic Control & Operation Modes
Operation Modes
- ON MODE: The fan runs at the set speed. An orange indicator shows heating elements are operating. A green indicator blinks every second.
- INT MODE: The unit operates intermittently (15 minutes on, 45 minutes off per hour). An orange indicator shows heating elements are operating. A green indicator blinks every 4 seconds.
- STOP: The device is in stop mode. A green indicator shows the device's power is on.
Plenum Temperature Control Potentiometer
The make-up air unit is equipped with a plenum temperature sensor. The plenum temperature set point can be adjusted using a potentiometer on the control card. The default set point is 20°C (68°F). The adjustable range is 0°C (32°F) to 40°C (104°F). A diagram shows the potentiometer and its adjustment scale.
Performance Curve
A graph displays the performance curves for MUAA06, MUAA08, MUAA10, and MUAA12 models, showing the relationship between Flow (CFM) and Static Pressure (poH2O).
Maintenance
Minimal maintenance is required. Clean the exterior hood of the fresh air intake annually. Clean the air filter every four months using mild soap and warm water, and dry it thoroughly before reinstallation. Always disconnect power before cleaning. Dust the device regularly to prevent overheating. Use a vacuum cleaner with a dust brush attachment for cleaning. Control compartments of units with plenum kits are dust-protected, but the rest of the unit still requires maintenance.
