Coldzone A2L Next Gen All-Temp Low Profile Unit Cooler
Designed for Walk-Ins: Small to Medium Cooler and Freezer Applications
Features
Coldzone's All-Temp unit coolers pioneered the low profile, air draw-through design, establishing the industry standard for walk-in coolers, freezers, and various other applications. The Next-Gen All-Temp models represent an advancement, featuring a new fan guard design and deep draw venturi for optimized airflow and enhanced serviceability. These units are compatible with multiple refrigerants and are available in both air and electric defrost configurations.
Sizes
Available in a wide array of sizes, these units offer capacities ranging from 2,700 to 45,900 BTUH at a 10° TD. Models with one to six fans are available, providing airflow from 800 to 4,650 CFM.
Housing
The lightweight yet durable embossed aluminum casing is engineered to prevent short cycling of the discharge air through baffled fan sections. These units meet NSF requirements and are designed for flush ceiling mounting. The top panel includes 1/2" wide slotted mounting points for straightforward installation. The drain pan features a removable drain fitting at the bottom for easy field connection and replacement. End panels slide out from the front, offering convenient access to the electrical and piping compartments for simplified maintenance.
Coil
The coils feature high-efficiency 3/8" enhanced copper hairpins, staggered and mechanically expanded into corrugated aluminum fins for maximum heat transfer and reduced refrigerant charge. Die-formed fin collars ensure consistent fin spacing. Models are available with 4 or 6 fins per inch (FPI). Sweat connections are standard.
Motors
Standard models are equipped with highly efficient Dual Speed Electronically Commutated (EC) motors, available for 115V or 208-230V. These motors comply with California Title 24 regulations and include thermal overload protection.
Fans and Fan Guards
Heavy-duty 12" aluminum fans are balanced for vibration-free operation. An improved black plastic fan guard design and deep draw venturi contribute to optimal air patterns.
Refrigerants
Low Profile Unit Coolers are optimized for multiple A2L refrigerants, including R454A, R454C, and R455A. Please specify refrigerant requirements when ordering. A separate compartment is provided for all refrigerant connections, allowing for internal mounting of expansion valves.
Electrical
Units are available for 115V and 208-230V. A spacious electrical compartment is integrated within the unit for housing electrical components, easily accessible by removing the slide-out end panel. All models are UL and cUL listed and are available for 60 Hz or 50 Hz applications.
Air Defrost Models
Air Defrost models are designed for use in coolers operating at 35°F and warmer. All components are factory wired to convenient screw-type terminal strips.
Electric Defrost Models
Electric Defrost 6 FPI models are suitable for coolers and freezers between 34°F to -20°F. Electric Defrost 4 FPI models are designed for freezers between 32°F to -20°F. Defrost heaters are mounted on the air intake side for optimal performance and easy maintenance. An additional lower heater is installed in the drain pan for fast, reliable drainage. A defrost termination fan delay thermostat manages the defrost cycle, and a heater safety thermostat prevents overheating.

EcoNet® Enabled Unit Coolers (Optional)
Developed in conjunction with Rheem Manufacturing, these units integrate Rheem's EcoNet technology for enhanced reliability and efficiency in walk-in coolers and freezers. Key benefits include:
- Energy savings through precise superheat and space temperature control, fan cycling, and optimized defrost cycles based on compressor runtime.
- Elimination of unnecessary defrosts.
- Maximized energy efficiency with reduced compressor runtime.
- Reduced fan speed to 50% during off-cycle for energy savings.
- Suitability for single and multiple evaporator installations.
The optional EcoNet Command Center provides an intuitive graphical interface for controlling up to 32 devices, offering continuous communication between system components. The remote mount display allows for programming, monitoring, and troubleshooting of EcoNet Enabled Unit Coolers remotely.
Model Nomenclature
The model nomenclature follows a configurable base model structure:
Brand | Refrigerant Class | Connections | Fins per Inch (FPI) | Defrost Type | BTUH in Hundreds | Unit Voltage | Motor Type | Vintage |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
C = Coldzone | A2L | L = Standard U = Reverse |
4 FPI 6 FPI |
A = Air E = Electric (Low Temp) |
XXX | A = 115/1/60 D = 208-230/1/60 E = 208-230/3/60 |
D = Dual Speed EC | A |
¹ Refrigerant and electrical connection locations differ for Next-Gen All-Temp designs. Standard connections "L" are opposite to legacy All-Temp models. Mirror connections "U" are the same as legacy All-Temp models and available only as built-to-order base units without installed options.
² EcoNet approved refrigerants: R454A, R454C, R455A.
³ EcoNet Control Package includes: EEV, suction pressure transducer, suction, entering air coil temp. thermistors; local on-board two-row LCD display and push-button adjustments. (Controller replaces TXV, room thermostat, defrost termination and fan delay, and time clock.)

Evaporator Application Ratings
Coldzone's published application ratings are a guideline for proper equipment selection, accounting for true operating conditions. These ratings are higher than the net capacity used for DOE ratings (AWEF). The AWEF is calculated using dry coil capacity and daily evaporator power consumption, including fan and defrost power. DOE test conditions (10°F evaporator/SST, <50% RH, 96°F liquid temp) create a uniform test method but may result in oversized equipment if used for selection.
