COLDZONE A2L MEDIUM PROFILE UNIT COOLER

Walk-Ins: Medium to Large Cooler and Freezer Applications

Air Defrost: 21,900 to 99,000 BTUH

Medium Temperature Electric Defrost: 21,900 to 98,900 BTUH

Low Temperature Electric Defrost: 12,900 to 89,000 BTUH

Features

The Medium Profile Unit Coolers are presented as the ideal evaporator solution for medium to large walk-in coolers and freezers. They are designed with a focus on efficiency, performance, and serviceability, distinguishing them from competitors. Engineered to meet the Department of Energy's new AWEF* performance regulations, these units feature energy-efficient rail-mount Dual Speed EC Motors. For optimal performance, units are circuited for multiple refrigerants and incorporate optimized circuit patterns, enhanced surface coil tubing, and new high-efficiency fan and venturi designs. The product line includes several features for improved serviceability, such as rail-mount motors, easily removable fan guards, modular fan panels, face mount defrost heaters, hinged drain pans, and shipping pallets designed for quicker installation.

Sizes

A wide array of sizes is available, with capacities ranging from 11,000 to 99,000 BTUH at a 10°F TD. Models offer airflow capacities spanning from 2,090 to 12,770 CFM.

Housing

Each unit is constructed with a rust-free, heavy gauge, textured aluminum housing, providing a lightweight yet extremely durable structure. Models feature hinged one-piece drain pans for convenient servicing and maintenance. Hanger holes are provided on all units to facilitate fast installation.

Coil

The coils feature seamless copper tubes that are staggered and mechanically expanded into corrugated aluminum fins to maximize heat transfer. Die-formed fin collars ensure accurate fin spacing. The top panel is fastened directly to the tube sheets of the coil, providing high structural strength. Low Temperature Electric Defrost models are available in both 6 FPI and 4 FPI configurations. Medium Temperature Electric Defrost and Air Defrost models are available in 6 FPI.

Motors

All models are equipped with highly efficient Dual Speed Electronically Commutated (EC) motors that comply with California Title 24 regulations.

Fans & Fan Guards

Powerful, heavy-duty aluminum fans are individually balanced to ensure vibration-free operation. Standard heavy-gauge wire fan guards are UL/cUL-approved and epoxy coated for corrosion resistance. The air throw for Medium Profile Unit Coolers is 75 ft.

Refrigerants

The Medium Profile Unit Coolers are optimized for multiple refrigerants, including R454A, R454C, and R455A. Users should specify system refrigerant requirements when ordering. A separate compartment is provided for all refrigerant connections, allowing ample room for internal mounting of Expansion Valves.

Electrical

Units are available in 115/12 (Air Defrost only), 208-230V/12, 208-230V/32, 460V/1, or 460V/32 configurations. A large compartment is supplied for all electrical components and is easily accessible by removing the end panel. All models are UL and cUL listed.

EcoNet® Enabled Unit Coolers (Optional)

Developed in conjunction with Rheem Manufacturing specifically for walk-in coolers and freezers, this technology builds on the reliability and efficiency of Rheem's EcoNet® system. It offers benefits such as energy savings through precise superheat and space temperature control, fan cycling, and optimized defrost scheduling based on compressor runtime. It also eliminates unnecessary defrosts, maximizes energy efficiency with reduced compressor runtime, and lowers fan speed by 50% during the off cycle for energy savings. These units can be used with a condensing unit in single and multiple evaporator installations.

The optional EcoNet® Command Center provides an intuitive graphical interface that controls up to 32 devices. It facilitates continuous communication between system components and offers a remote mount display, allowing for programming, monitoring, and troubleshooting of EcoNet® Enabled Unit Coolers from outside the cooled space.

Evaporator Application Ratings

Multiple conditions, including walk-in space temperature, relative humidity, saturated suction temperature difference, and outdoor ambient temperature, determine the application capacity of an evaporator. These factors are considered when calculating an evaporator application rating, which may be considerably higher than the net capacity value used for DOE ratings (AWEF).

The AWEF of an evaporator is calculated using dry coil capacity and daily evaporator power consumption (including fan and defrost power). Evaporator net capacity reported to the DOE database is dry coil capacity minus full power fan watts. DOE test conditions are at 10°F evaporator/SST temperature difference, less than 50% relative humidity, and 96°F liquid temperature. While these conditions create a uniform test method, they should not be used for equipment selection as they may result in oversized equipment. Published application ratings serve as a guideline for proper equipment selection, reflecting true operating conditions.
