Aeotec Water Leak Sensor User Guide

Introduction

The Aeotec Water Leak Sensor is designed to detect water and temperature. It requires connection to an Aeotec Smart Home Hub to function and is powered by Aeotec Zigbee technology.

A compact, white Aeotec Water Leak Sensor with three gold-colored probes designed to detect water presence.

For the Aeotec Smart Home Hub to work, the Aeotec Water Leak Sensor must be used with it. Additional information about the Aeotec Smart Home Hub can be found in its user guide: Aeotec Smart Home Hub User Guide.

Connect the Aeotec Water Leak Sensor

Steps in SmartThings Connect:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the + icon and select Device.
  2. Select Aeotec and then Water Leak Sensor (IM6001-WLP).
  3. Tap Start.
  4. Choose a Hub for the device.
  5. Choose a Room for the device and tap Next.
  6. While the Hub searches:
    • Pull the "Remove when Connecting" tab found in the sensor.
    • Scan the code on the back of the device.

Using the Aeotec Water Leak Sensor

Once connected, the Aeotec Water Leak Sensor becomes part of your Aeotec Smart Home Hub network. It will appear as a water sensor widget in your SmartThings Connect app, displaying leak status or temperature readings.

Steps to View Information in SmartThings Connect:

  1. Open SmartThings Connect.
  2. Scroll down to your Aeotec Water Leak Sensor.
  3. Tap the Aeotec Water Leak Sensor widget.
  4. On this screen, it should display:
    • Water leak status
    • Temperature readings

You can use the water and temperature sensor data to create Automations within your Aeotec Smart Home network. For more information on programming automations, visit: Programming Automations.

How to Remove Aeotec Water Leak Sensor from Aeotec Smart Home Hub

If the Aeotec Water Leak Sensor is not performing as expected, you may need to reset it and remove it from your Aeotec Smart Home Hub for a fresh start.

Steps:

  1. From the Home screen, select Menu.
  2. Select More Options ([three dots icon]).
  3. Tap Edit.
  4. Tap Delete to confirm.

Factory Reset Your Aeotec Water Leak Sensor

The Aeotec Water Leak Sensor can be factory reset at any time if you encounter issues or need to re-pair it to a different hub.

Steps in SmartThings Connect:

  1. Press and hold the recessed connect button for five (5) seconds.
  2. Release the button when the LED starts blinking red.
  3. The LED will blink red and green while attempting to connect.
  4. Follow the steps detailed in the "Connect the Aeotec Water Leak Sensor" section above using the SmartThings app.
