Aeotec Motion Sensor User Guide

Introduction

The Aeotec Motion Sensor is designed to detect motion and temperature. It operates when connected to an Aeotec Smart Home Hub and is powered by Aeotec Zigbee technology. For optimal functionality, the Aeotec Motion Sensor requires an Aeotec Smart Home Hub. A user guide for the Aeotec Smart Home Hub can be found at: Aeotec Smart Home Hub User Guide.

Familiarize yourself with Aeotec Motion Sensor

Important Safety Information

  • Read, keep, and follow these instructions. Heed all warnings.
  • Clean only with a dry cloth.
  • Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
  • Only use attachments and accessories specified by the Manufacturer.

Connect the Aeotec Motion Sensor

Steps in SmartThings Connect

  1. From the Home screen, tap the [plus-icon] icon and select Device.
  2. Select Aeotec and then Motion Sensor (IM6001-MTP).
  3. Tap Start.
  4. Choose a Hub for the device.
  5. Choose a Room for the device and tap Next.
  6. While the Hub searches:
    • Pull the "Remove when Connecting" tab found in the sensor.
    • Scan the code on the back of the device.

Using Aeotec Motion Sensor

The Aeotec Motion Sensor integrates into your Aeotec Smart Home Hub network and appears as a motion widget in the SmartThings Connect app, displaying motion status or temperature sensor readings.

Steps in SmartThings Connect

  1. Open SmartThings Connect.
  2. Scroll down to your Aeotec Motion Sensor.
  3. Tap the Aeotec Motion Sensor widget.

On this screen, it should display:

  • Motion
  • Temperature

How to remove Aeotec Motion Sensor from Aeotec Smart Home Hub

If your Aeotec Motion Sensor is not performing as expected, you may need to reset it and remove it from your Aeotec Smart Home Hub to start fresh.

Steps

  1. From the Home screen, select Menu.
  2. Select More Options ([three-dots-icon]).
  3. Tap Edit.
  4. Tap Delete to confirm.

Replace Aeotec Motion Sensor Battery

The battery of the Motion Sensor can be easily replaced. An "OPEN" label and an arrow on the upper end of the case indicate the direction to slide the battery cover off.

Steps

  1. Place the Motion Sensor flat on a table with the back facing upwards.
  2. Push and slide the battery cover off in the direction of the arrow (indicated by "OPEN").
  3. The back should pop off with a [click sound], allowing you to lift the battery cover.
  4. Remove the old battery and replace it.
  5. Replace the battery cover:
    1. Slide the battery cover over and across the Motion Sensor (the "OPEN" indicator should be on the opposite side of the battery location).
    2. The cover will fit onto the unit. Push the battery cover fully until it clicks, indicating it is locked in place.

Factory Reset your Aeotec Motion Sensor

The Aeotec Motion Sensor can be factory reset at any time to resolve issues or to re-pair it with a different hub.

Steps in SmartThings Connect

  1. Press and hold the recessed connect button for five (5) seconds.
  2. Release the button when the LED starts blinking red.
  3. The LED will blink red and green while attempting to connect.
  4. Use the SmartThings app and follow the steps detailed in the "Connect the Aeotec Motion Sensor" section above.
