Connecting Your Devices
The AeroCaster Switcher allows you to connect various devices to create your live stream. You can connect up to five source devices, including satellite cameras (iPhones using the AeroCaster Camera app), the built-in camera on your iPad, and web browsers (computers or smartphones).
Required Connections:
- For iPad (AeroCaster Switcher app):
- Lightning to Digital AV adaptor or USB-C Digital AV Multiport adaptor (Apple genuine products recommended).
- HDMI cable.
- For Roland video switcher with USB streaming support:
- USB cable.

Device Connection Diagram:
The system involves a Wi-Fi router connecting an iPad and a computer. An iPhone can connect as a satellite camera via Wi-Fi. A computer can also connect via USB cable to a video switcher.
Note: An internet connection is required for activation and when using web browser sources. An internet connection is not required when using a satellite camera.
Activating the AeroCaster Switcher App
The AeroCaster Switcher app requires activation before use. The activation screen appears upon the first launch.
Getting Ready:
- Connect your computer to a Roland video switcher that supports USB streaming using a USB cable.
- Both the iPad and your computer must be connected to the Internet and the same Wi-Fi network for activation.
Activation Steps:
- Launch the AeroCaster Switcher app on your iPad and tap "Activation Start."
- An activation link will be displayed.
- From your computer's web browser, open the displayed link and click the "Device check and authenticate" button.
- Once activation is complete, the iPad screen will update, allowing you to use the AeroCaster Switcher app.
Tip: You can send the activation link to your computer using AirDrop (for Mac) or via email.
Panel Descriptions
- [to PGM directly] switch: Toggles direct program output mode on/off. This mode allows immediate viewing of the final output of the selected video.
- [TAKE] button: Generates the final output of the preview video. This is enabled when the [to PGM directly] switch is off.
- PROGRAM area: Displays the final output video.
- App settings menu: Configures settings for the AeroCaster Switcher app, including Bitrate (for Wi-Fi connections) and About (app version). Edits are applied upon reconnection.
- [FADE] button: Controls the fade in/out of the final output video.
Video Sources
Select videos to output from MEDIA, SCENE, or INPUT.
- MEDIA: Register images or videos from your iPad by tapping " + ".
- SCENE: Register screen layouts (scenes) that use DSK or PinP composition by tapping " + ".
- INPUT (CAM1-5): Assign input video from satellite cameras or the built-in camera by tapping " + ". You can also input video from a computer or smartphone via a web browser.
Output Menu
- PROGRAM: Final output video.
- PREVIEW: Preview video.
CAMERA and TRANSITION Menus
These menus contain settings for cameras assigned to CAM1-5 and video transition effects. Tap the "CAMERA" or "TRANSITION" tab to switch.
CAMERA Menu Settings:
- Lens: Selects the built-in lens (e.g., wide-angle, telephoto, front-facing).
- Zoom: Adjusts the zoom factor.
- Exposure: Sets the exposure mode (Auto, Continuous, Manual). In Manual mode, ISO sensitivity and shutter speed can be adjusted.
- WhiteBalance: Adjusts white balance. In manual mode, color temperature and hue can be adjusted.
- Focus: Sets the focal point.
- LED Light: Turns the camera light on/off (for models with a built-in LED flash).
- Stabilization: Turns image stabilization on/off.
TRANSITION Menu Settings:
Switches between cut, mix, and wipe effects. Tap ">" to edit settings.
Inputting Video
Inputting Video from the Built-in Camera (INPUT)
- Tap INPUT " + " (CAM1-5) and select "Built-in Camera" from the list.
- The input source is assigned.
Configuring the Built-in Camera:
- Tap the input source and then tap the "CAMERA" tab.
- Configure camera settings using the items in each menu.
Deleting an Input Source:
- Long-press the input source and tap "Delete."
Changing the Order of Input Sources:
- Long-press the input source and tap "Reorder."
- Tap and hold the " $\equiv$ " icon, drag it to the desired position, and tap "Done."
Inputting Video from a Satellite Camera (INPUT)
Use your iPhone as a satellite camera. Up to four devices can send camera video to the AeroCaster Switcher app. Assign the video input to INPUT CAM1–5.
Note: Both the iPhone and iPad must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Getting Ready:
- Install the AeroCaster Camera app on your iPhone from the Roland website: https://roland.cm/ac_sw_om
Steps:
- Launch the AeroCaster Camera app on the iPhone.
- Launch the AeroCaster Switcher app on the iPad.
- Tap INPUT " + " (CAM1–5) and select the satellite camera's name from the list.
- The input source is assigned.
Configuring the Satellite Camera:
- Tap the input source and then tap the "CAMERA" tab.
- Configure camera settings using the items in each menu.
Inputting Video from a Computer or Smartphone (INPUT)
Send video from your computer or smartphone (Android OS or iOS) to the AeroCaster Switcher app via a web browser. You can also share your computer's screen.
Note: The iPad and computer/smartphone must be connected to the Internet and the same Wi-Fi network. Supported browser: Google Chrome (latest version recommended).
- Tap INPUT " + " (CAM1-5) and select "Add Web Browser (PC/ Mobile) source" from the list.
- On the web browser of your computer or smartphone, open the link shown in the "Add Browser Source" dialog box.
- Click the "Open Video Input Device" button, select a video device, and click "Select." To share your screen, click "Start Screen Capture," select content, and click "Share" (computers only).
- Click the "Connect" button. The video will be shown as a preview.
- The input source is assigned.
Note: Click the "Hang up" button in your web browser to remove the input source assignment.
Assigning Images and Video on Your iPad (MEDIA)
Register images and videos stored on your iPad to use as video sources.
- Tap MEDIA " + " and then tap "Image" or "Video."
- The list of images and videos appears. Tap the desired items to register. For images, tap "Add."
- The images or videos are registered.
Deleting Media:
- One at a time: Long-press the media and tap "Delete."
- All at once: Tap the trash can icon, tap "Delete All Media," and confirm by tapping "Delete."
Registering the Screen Layout (SCENE)
Register screen layouts with DSK or PinP composition as "scenes" to combine and output multiple videos. Selecting a scene during a video transition will switch to the registered layout.
Tap SCENE " + " and select a screen layout from the menu.
DSK (OVERLAY)
Use DSK (downstream keyer) for composites with text and video.
- Composites a block of inputted text.
- Composites images and videos registered in MEDIA.
COMPOSITION
Composite multiple input videos into a single screen.
- Split left-right
- Split into quarters
Tap the items in each menu to edit settings, then tap "Save."
TEXT Settings:
- Text: Input text.
- Text Alignment: Sets text alignment.
- Text Color: Sets text color.
- Background Color: Sets text background color.
MEDIA Settings:
- Select Media: Select materials for compositing from registered images and videos.
PinP Settings:
- MAIN: Selects the background video.
- SUB: Selects the inset screen video.
- Border Color: Specifies the border color for the inset screen.
- Border Width: Adjusts the border width for the inset screen.
SPLIT Settings:
- Left: Selects the video for the left side.
- Right: Selects the video for the right side.
- Border Color: Specifies the border color.
- Border Width: Adjusts the border width.
QUAD Settings:
- Top Left: Selects video for the upper left.
- Top Right: Selects video for the upper right.
- Bottom Left: Selects video for the lower left.
- Bottom Right: Selects video for the lower right.
- Border Color: Specifies the border color.
- Border Width: Adjusts the border width.
Editing and Deleting Scenes:
- Editing a scene: Long-press the scene and tap "Edit."
- Deleting one scene at a time: Long-press the scene and tap "Delete."
- Deleting all scenes: Tap the trash can icon, tap "Delete All Scene," and confirm by tapping "Delete."
Switching the Video
Switching After Checking the Video in Preview
- Turn the "[to PGM directly]" switch off.
- Tap the video source (MEDIA, SCENE, or INPUT) you want to output. The selected video appears in the preview area.
One-touch Switching (PGM Direct Mode)
In this mode, the output video switches immediately upon selection.
- Turn the "[to PGM directly]" switch on.
- Tap the video source (MEDIA, SCENE, or INPUT) you want to output. The view switches to the final output video.
- Tap the "[TAKE]" button. The view switches the final output video.
Selecting a Scene:
For scenes, you can select one composition scene and two DSK scenes simultaneously.
