Traction Control System
Principle of Operation
In situations where one or more wheels tend to spin, the Electronic Traction Control (ETC) system engages. This system, in conjunction with the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), enhances maneuverability.
If a wheel begins to spin, the ETC applies the brake to that wheel and may reduce engine power until the wheel regains traction with the road surface.
This indicator light on the instrument panel illuminates during the lamp check after turning the ignition key to position II and then extinguishes.
The indicator light flashes when the ETC or DSC is activated and continues to flash until the vehicle regains stability and traction with the road surface.
If the DSC system is deactivated by the driver, the indicator light remains illuminated constantly.
Furthermore, deactivating the DSC alters the intervention level of the ETC system. During wheel spin, the ETC will still apply the brake, but the engine's torque will not be limited by the system. This can improve vehicle stability in certain situations but may also increase ground damage and brake load. Therefore, whenever possible, operate the vehicle with the DSC activated.
If the indicator light flashes slowly and then remains constantly illuminated, a malfunction has been detected.
In the event of such a malfunction, the DSC traction control system is deactivated. Consequently, operate the vehicle with caution and seek qualified assistance as soon as possible.
