2. Introduction to the digital display locator
The digital display locator consists of the following components:
- Antenna
- Connector (Removeable)
- Signal strength indicator
- Far / Near Mode
- Signal Sensitivity Value
- Far / Near Button
- Battery indication
- Increase Signal Sensitivity Value button (+)
- Reduce Signal Sensitivity Value button (-)
- Power: On/Off button
- Earphone Plugin
- Speaker
- Battery Cover
- Compartment for 6PCS AA Battery
3. General layout
- Signal strength indicator: The symbol 'S' indicates signal strength. The indicator moves to the right for a strong signal and to the left for a weak signal.
- Signal Sensitivity Value: The symbol 'D' represents the sensitivity. The 'Far' mode is recommended for initial setup, setting sensitivity to maximum ('9'). Use the '-' button to reduce the sensitivity value for more accurate readings.
- Far / Near Button: Controls overall sensitivity. The 'Far' position is recommended when initially locating the sonde. As you approach the transmitter, the signal strength indicator will show a peak value with 'D' at '4'. To pinpoint the precise location, switch to 'Near' mode if you cannot reduce the Signal Sensitivity Value further in 'Far' mode.
4. The Procedure to Use
- Step 1: Long press the 'POWER' button to turn on the device. Note any other transmissions to avoid misleading signals.
- Step 2: Turn on the sewer camera system with the camera probe on and transmitting at 512 Hz frequency.
- Step 3: Keep the locator parallel to the ground at hip waist height. Set 'D' to '9' and select 'Far' mode (Detect distance: 6m/20 feet).
- Step 4: Walk around and pay attention to the peak signal. When the signal column (symbol 'S') is less than 9, move or rotate the receiver in different directions. When the signal column reaches 9 (peak value), the direction shown by the antenna indicates the transmitter's orientation. The distance between the transmitter and receiver at this point is approximately 6m (20ft).
- Step 5: Walk around and adjust the '-' button to reduce 'D' to '8'. The signal ('S') in the 9th grade of the signal column will flash weakly. Move the receiver towards the transmitter until the signal reaches the full 9 grades. Then, decrease 'D' to positions '7, 6, 5, and 4' sequentially, continuously moving the receiver towards the direction indicated by the antenna.
- Step 6: When 'D' is '4' and the signal 'S' is at peak value, the receiver is approximately 2m away from the transmitter.
- Step 7: Change from 'Far' mode to 'Near' mode. Adjust the '+' button to increase 'D' to '9'. The signal ('S') should also be at full scale (peak value). Then, use the '-' button to reduce 'D' to '8, 7, 6, 5, 4, and 3' sequentially, moving the receiver towards the direction indicated by the antenna to find the peak signal value.
- Step 8: When 'D' is '3' and the signal 'S' is at peak value, congratulations! The distance between the receiver and transmitter is approximately 0.5m (1.65ft). The direction of the antenna at this point indicates the location of the transmitter.
5. Attention
- Signal strength increases gradually from 'D' 1 to 9.
- Signal strength decreases gradually from 'D' 9 to 1.
- When the receiver signal is strongest during detection, the direction pointed by the antenna is the orientation of the transmitter.
- When getting closer to the transmitter, reducing the signal strength can help pinpoint the transmitter's position.
- Ensure the antenna rod is securely installed without looseness or shaking.
- If the distance between the receiver and transmitter is greater than 6m, follow usage steps 1-5.
- If the distance is between 2m and 6m, follow usage steps 2-5.
- If the distance is less than 2m, follow usage steps 3-5.
- A 'hoarse buzzing sound' indicates no signal or a weak signal.
- A 'loud buzzing sound' indicates a full signal.
- When the signal changes from weak to strong, the 'hoarse buzzing' sound gradually weakens, and the 'loud buzzing' sound becomes stronger.
6. The list of equipment in a whole set
- Aluminum box (with take-up spool cable and EVA cotton)
- Receiver
- Receiver antenna
