1. Know About This Radio

This section provides an overview of the Danita 340 CB Radio and its components.

Radio Overview

The front panel of the Danita 340 CB Radio features the following labeled components:

1. Squelch control, SQ, ASQ switch key:
Adjusts the squelch level or switches between Squelch and Auto Squelch.
2. Mode/Keypad lock button:
Switches between AM/FM modes or locks/unlocks the keypad.
3. Microphone Jack:
Connector for the external microphone.
4. Emergency channel button:
Selects pre-programmed emergency channels.
5. Functions button:
Accesses various radio functions.
6. TX indicator light:
Illuminates when transmitting.
7. Power On/Off Volume control knob:
Turns the radio on/off and adjusts the audio volume.
8. RX indicator light:
Illuminates when receiving a signal.
9. Channel up selector button:
Increases the channel number.
10. Channel down selector button:
Decreases the channel number.
11. External speaker Jack:
Connector for an external speaker.
12. Antenna Jack:
Connector for the antenna.

The top panel includes a display screen and several buttons. The front panel also features ventilation grilles.

Microphone Overview

The handheld microphone includes:

PTT Button:
Press to transmit.
Mic:
Microphone element.
Connector:
Connects to the radio.
Microphone cable:
Coiled cable connecting the microphone to the radio.
Up/Down Buttons:
Used for channel selection and menu navigation.

2. LCD Display

The LCD screen provides visual feedback for radio operations. Key indicators and areas include:

Top Indicators:
RF Gain, Noise Blanker, TALKBACK, HI-CUT.
Middle Section:
TX (Transmit), DCS (Digital Code Squelch), Automatical Squelch, Key lock, TX/RX S-meter, Roger Beep, Channel/Frequency/Menu display.
Main Display Area:
Shows current channel number (e.g., 88) and mode (e.g., AM, FM, CTC).
Bottom Indicators:
ESP, SCR, VOX, -5K, Offset Direction.
Right Side Indicators:
High power, Middle power, Beep sound, Emergency channel.

3. How to Use This Radio

This section details the operation of the Danita 340 CB Radio.

3.1 Power On/Off the Radio

  1. Turn the [Volume Knob] clockwise. The LCD displays the norms and then the channel number.
  2. Turn the [Volume Knob] anti-clockwise until you hear a click ('Ka Ta'). The radio is powered off.

3.2 Volume Control

Turn the [Volume Knob] clockwise to increase volume and anti-clockwise to decrease volume.

3.3 Channel Control

  1. Short press the microphone [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] to change the working channel by one step.
  2. Long press the microphone [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] to fast change the working channel.

3.4 SQ / ASQ Control

Squelch Level Control (short press)

  1. Short press the [SQ Button]. The LCD displays "SQL SET" followed by the current level (e.g., "08"). The higher the value, the higher the squelch level.
  2. Short press the microphone [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] to change the SQ level.
  3. Long press the microphone [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] to fast change the SQ level.
  4. Short press the [SQ Button] or wait 10 seconds to store and exit.

Note: A higher SQ level requires a stronger signal to open the speaker and hear calls.

ASQ Control (long press)

  1. Long press the [SQ Button] until the LCD displays "AQ". The ASQ function is now turned on.
  2. Short press the [SQ Button]. The LCD displays "ASQ SET" followed by the current level (e.g., "06"). The higher the value, the higher the ASQ level.
  3. Short press the microphone [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] to change the ASQ level.
  4. Long press the microphone [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] to fast change the ASQ level.
  5. Short press the [SQ Button] or wait 10 seconds to store and exit.
  6. Long press the [SQ Button] again to turn on the SQL function.

Note: A higher ASQ level requires a stronger signal to open the speaker and hear calls.

3.5 Mode Control & Keypad Lock

Mode Control (short press)

  1. Short press the [A/F Button] to switch between AM and FM modes.
  2. The LCD displays the selected mode.

Keypad Lock (long press)

  1. Long press the [A/F Button] for over 2 seconds to lock the keys. The LCD displays "OT".
  2. Long press the [A/F Button] for over 2 seconds again to unlock the keys. The "OT" icon disappears from the LCD.

Note: In Lock Mode, all keys except the PTT button are valid.

3.6 Emergency Channel

Emergency Channel (short press)

  1. First press the [EMG Button] to choose the first programmed emergency channel. The LCD displays "EMG".
  2. Second press the [EMG Button] to choose the second programmed emergency channel.
  3. Third press the [EMG Button] to return to the last normal channel. "EMG" disappears from the LCD.

Note: The default emergency channels are channel 9 and channel 19. Refer to the "Emergency Channel Set" menu on page 8 for configuration.

3.8 Scan Function

Scan Function (short press)

  1. Hold the [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] button for over 5 seconds and release when you hear a "Di" beep sound to start scanning. "SCAN" flashes on the LCD.
  2. Short press the [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] button to change the scan direction.
  3. Short press the [AM/FM Button] to change the scan mode. Short press the [EMG Button] or [PTT Button] to exit scan mode.

3.9 VOX Function, Talkback Level, Functions, Norms Control

VOX Function

The VOX function allows transmitting by speaking into the microphone without pressing the [PTT Button].

Press [PTT Button] + [F/S Button] to activate VOX function. The LCD displays a microphone icon ?. Press [PTT Button] + [F/S Button] again to disable VOX function. The microphone icon disappears.

Note: When VOX is turned on, the microphone symbol ? flashes in the LCD.

Talkback Level

This function adjusts the volume of your walkie-talkie.

  1. Start the intercom function (see "intercom" on page 8).
  2. Hold down the [PTT Button]. Then, the [Up Arrow ⬆️] button increases or the [Down Arrow ⬇️] button decreases the Talkback Level.
  3. Release the [PTT Button] to save the Talkback Level.

Functions (long press)

Long press the [F/S Button] to enter the menu and set different functions.

Norms Control

  1. Hold the [F/S Button] to power on the radio. The LCD displays the norms.
  2. Short press the microphone [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] to choose the desired norms.
  3. Power off and power on again to apply the selected norms.

3.10 Install External Speaker

Choose an 8-ohm external speaker with a 3.5mm mono connector.

3.11 Menu Operations

  1. Long press the [F/S Button] to enter the menu list.
  2. Short press the microphone [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] or [SQ Button] or [EMG Button] to choose a menu item.
  3. Short press the [F/S Button] to enter the function setting parameter for the chosen function. The parameter blinks on the LCD.
  4. Short press the microphone [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] or [SQ Button] or [EMG Button] to choose the desired setting.
  5. Short press the [F/S Button] to validate the mode and exit setting.
  6. Long press the [F/S Button] or wait 20 seconds to store and exit the MENU.

3.12 Band Name Setting

  1. Choose a band to be modified.
  2. Long press the [F/S Button] to enter the menu list.
  3. Short press the microphone [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] or [SQ Button] or [EMG Button] to choose NO.17 function menu. The LCD displays "BAND NAME" followed by the current band name.
  4. Short press the [F/S Button]. The first digit blinks on the LCD.
  5. Short press the microphone [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] or [SQ Button] or [EMG Button] to choose the character of the first digit.
  6. Short press the [F/S Button] to validate the first digit. The second digit blinks on the LCD.
  7. Short press the microphone [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] or [SQ Button] or [EMG Button] to choose the character of the second digit.
  8. Short press the [F/S Button] to validate the second digit and exit setting.
  9. Long press the [F/S Button] or wait 20 seconds to store and exit MENU.

3.13 Emergency Channel Setting

  1. Long press the [F/S Button] to enter the menu list.
  2. Short press the microphone [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] or [SQ Button] or [EMG Button] to choose NO.18 function menu or NO.19 function menu. The LCD displays "EMG.1" or "EMG.2" with channel numbers (e.g., "109" or "19").
  3. Short press the [F/S Button]. The number "1" or "2" blinks on the LCD.
  4. Short press the microphone [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] or [SQ Button] or [EMG Button] to choose the emergency channel. "OFF" stands for turning off the current emergency channel.
  5. Short press the [F/S Button]. The band name blinks on the LCD.
  6. Short press the microphone [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] or [SQ Button] or [EMG Button] to choose the frequency band.
  7. Short press the [F/S Button] to validate the frequency band, and the channel blinks on the LCD.
  8. Short press the microphone [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] or [SQ Button] or [EMG Button] to choose the channel.
  9. Short press the [F/S Button] to validate the channel. The mode blinks on the LCD.
  10. Short press the microphone [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] or [SQ Button] or [EMG Button] to choose the mode (AM or FM).
  11. Short press the [F/S Button] to validate the mode and exit setting.
  12. Long press the [F/S Button] or wait 20 seconds to store and exit MENU.

Note: This frequency band selection is valid only when the radio works in HF model or HAM model.

3.14 Resume Factory Default

  1. Long press the [F/S Button] to enter the menu list.
  2. Short press the microphone [Up Arrow ⬆️] or [Down Arrow ⬇️] or [SQ Button] or [EMG Button] to choose NO.20 function menu. The LCD displays "RESET".
  3. Short press the [F/S Button] to enter menu selection. "RESET" flashes in the LCD.
  4. Long press the [F/S Button] until the LCD only displays "RESET".
  5. Release the [F/S Button]. The radio automatically resets.
