Device Overview and Controls
The Danita 1240AM features a compact design with essential controls for CB radio operation.
Front Panel Controls:
- Microphone Connector (1): Connects the microphone to the front of the transceiver.
- Squelch (2): This control adjusts the noise gate. Set it to the point where background static just disappears.
- ON/OFF Switch and Volume Control (3): This is a combined knob. Turning it clockwise powers on the unit, and further turning increases the volume.
- AM/FM Switch (4): Selects between AM (Amplitude Modulation) and FM (Frequency Modulation) modes.
- Channel Selectors (5): Push buttons used to select the desired operating channel.
- TX Indicator Lamp (6): Illuminates red when the unit is transmitting.
- RX Indicator Lamp (7): Illuminates yellow when the unit is receiving a signal.
- Priority Switch CH 9 or 19 (8): Provides quick access to channels 9 or 19. Channel 9 is often designated for emergency communications in some regions. In the "CH" position, channel selection is managed by the channel selectors (5).
- Channel Display (9): Shows the currently selected channel number in large, bright digits.
Rear Panel Connections:
- ANT (10): Connect your antenna here. The antenna and its cable should have a 50 Ohm impedance and be specifically designed for the 27 MHz CB band.
- EXT (11): This jack allows connection of an external loudspeaker or headset with an 8 Ohm impedance. Connecting a device here will automatically disable the built-in speaker.
- POWER (12): Connects to a 12 Volt DC power source, such as a car battery or a power adapter. Connect the red wire to the positive (+) terminal and the black wire to the negative (-) terminal. Ensure the system has a negative ground.
Operation
- Ensure the antenna and power supply are correctly connected as described above.
- Set the volume control (3) to a medium level.
- Adjust the squelch control (2) until background noise is just silenced.
- Hold the microphone 5-10 cm (2-4 inches) from your mouth.
- To transmit, push and hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) switch on the microphone. Speak in a normal voice.
- Release the PTT switch to receive.
- Adjust the volume control (3) to a comfortable listening level when receiving a signal.
Important Note on Transmission: The PTT switch must not be operated if there is no suitable antenna connected to the ANT (10) jack. Doing so can damage the transmitter.
