Identifying Your Motherboard Revision

The revision number on your motherboard looks like this: "REV: X.X." For example, "REV: 1.0" means the revision of the motherboard is 1.0. Check your motherboard revision before updating motherboard BIOS, drivers, or when looking for technical information.

Chapter 1: Product Introduction

1-1 Motherboard Layout

The motherboard layout diagram displays various connectors and components. Key components include:

  • CPU Socket: LGA1700 socket for Intel processors.
  • Memory Slots: DDR5/DDR4 slots labeled DDR5_A1, DDR4_1 (Channel A) and DDR5_B1, DDR4_2 (Channel B).

Chapter 2: Hardware Installation

2-1 Installation Precautions

  • Ensure the chassis is suitable for the motherboard.
  • Do not remove or damage motherboard S/N or warranty stickers.
  • Always disconnect AC power before installing or removing components.
  • Ensure all internal hardware connections are tight and secure.
  • Avoid touching metal leads or connectors on the motherboard.
  • Use an ESD wrist strap or touch a metal object to discharge static electricity.
  • Place the motherboard on an antistatic pad or in a shielding container before installation.
  • Ensure the power supply is turned off before connecting/disconnecting power cables.
  • Verify the power supply voltage matches the local standard before powering on.
  • Confirm all cables and power connectors are properly connected before use.
  • Prevent screws from contacting motherboard circuits or components.
  • Ensure no leftover screws or metal components are in the casing.
  • Do not place the computer system on uneven surfaces or in high-temperature/wet environments.
  • Do not turn on the computer during the installation process to avoid damage or harm.
  • Consult a certified computer technician if uncertain about installation steps.
  • Follow installation and grounding instructions for adapters, extension cables, or power strips.

2-3 Installing the CPU and CPU Cooler

⚠️ Read the following guidelines before you begin to install the CPU:

  • Make sure the motherboard supports the CPU. (Go to GIGABYTE's website for the latest CPU support list.)
  • Always turn off the computer and unplug the power cord from the power outlet before installing the CPU to prevent hardware damage.
  • Locate the pin one of the CPU. The CPU cannot be inserted if oriented incorrectly. (Or you may locate the notches on both sides of the CPU and alignment keys on the CPU socket.)
  • Apply an even and thin layer of thermal grease on the surface of the CPU.
  • Do not turn on the computer if the CPU cooler is not installed, otherwise overheating and damage of the CPU may occur.
  • Set the CPU host frequency in accordance with the CPU specifications. It is not recommended that the system bus frequency be set beyond hardware specifications, as it does not meet the standard requirements for the peripherals. If you wish to set the frequency beyond the standard specifications, please do so according to your hardware specifications including the CPU, graphics card, memory, hard drive, etc.
A. Note the CPU Orientation

Note the alignment keys on the motherboard CPU socket and the notches on the CPU. The LGA1700 CPU socket has an alignment key (triangle marking). The LGA1700 CPU also has a triangle pin one marking and notches on its sides. Ensure these align correctly for installation.

⚠️ Do not remove the CPU socket cover before inserting the CPU. It may pop off from the load plate automatically after you insert the CPU and close the load plate.

B. Installing the CPU

Follow the steps below to correctly install the CPU into the motherboard CPU socket:

  1. Gently press the CPU socket lever handle down and away from the socket. Completely lift up the CPU socket locking lever. Use the finger tab on the side of the metal load plate to lift open the metal load plate with the plastic protective cover attached to it.
  2. Hold the CPU with your fingers by the edges. Align the CPU pin one marking (triangle) with the pin one corner of the CPU socket (or align the CPU notches with the socket alignment keys) and gently insert the CPU into position.
  3. Make sure the CPU is properly installed, then close the load plate. The plastic protective cover will pop off; remove it. Secure the lever under its retention tab to complete the CPU installation.

* Always replace the plastic protective cover when the CPU is not installed to protect the CPU socket.

⚠️ Do not force to engage the CPU socket locking lever when the CPU is not installed correctly, as this would damage the CPU and CPU socket.

C. Installing the CPU Cooler

Be sure to install the CPU cooler after installing the CPU. (Actual installation process may differ depending on the CPU cooler used. Refer to the user's manual for your CPU cooler.)

  1. Apply an even and thin layer of thermal grease on the surface of the installed CPU.
  2. Place the cooler atop the CPU, aligning the four push pins through the pin holes on the motherboard. Push down on the push pins diagonally.
  3. Finally, attach the power connector of the CPU cooler to the CPU fan header (CPU_FAN) on the motherboard.

2-4 Installing the Memory

⚠️ Read the following guidelines before you begin to install the memory:

  • Make sure the motherboard supports the memory. It is recommended that memory of the same capacity, brand, speed, and chips be used. (Go to GIGABYTE's website for the latest supported memory speeds and memory modules.)
  • Always turn off the computer and unplug the power cord from the power outlet before installing the memory to prevent hardware damage.
  • Memory modules have a foolproof design. A memory module can be installed in only one direction. If you are unable to insert the memory, switch the direction.
Dual Channel Memory Configuration

This motherboard provides two memory sockets and supports Dual Channel Technology. After memory installation, the BIOS will automatically detect the memory specifications and capacity. Enabling Dual Channel memory mode will double the original memory bandwidth.

The two memory sockets are divided into two channels, with each channel having one memory socket:

  • Channel A: DDR5_A1 [j], DDR4_1 [k]
  • Channel B: DDR5_B1 [j], DDR4_2 [k]

Due to CPU limitations, read the following guidelines before installing memory in Dual Channel mode:

  1. Dual Channel mode cannot be enabled if only one memory module is installed.
  2. When enabling Dual Channel mode with two memory modules, it is recommended that memory of the same capacity, brand, speed, and chips be used.

2-5 Installing an Expansion Card

⚠️ Read the following guidelines before you begin to install an expansion card:

  • Make sure the motherboard supports the expansion card. Carefully read the manual that came with your expansion card.
  • Always turn off the computer and unplug the power cord from the power outlet before installing an expansion card to prevent hardware damage.

Follow the steps below to correctly install your expansion card in the expansion slot:

  1. Locate an expansion slot that supports your card. Remove the metal slot cover from the chassis back panel.
  2. Align the card with the slot, and press down on the card until it is fully seated in the slot.
  3. Make sure that the expansion card is fully seated in its slot.
  4. Secure the card's metal bracket to the chassis back panel with a screw.
  5. After installing all expansion cards, replace the chassis cover(s).
  6. Turn on your computer. If necessary, go to BIOS Setup to make any required BIOS changes for your expansion card(s).
  7. Install the driver provided with the expansion card in your operating system.

2-6 Back Panel Connectors

The back panel provides various ports for connecting external devices:

  • PS/2 Keyboard and PS/2 Mouse Port: Use the upper port (green) for a PS/2 mouse and the lower port (purple) for a PS/2 keyboard.
  • D-Sub Port: Supports a 15-pin D-Sub connector and a maximum resolution of 1920x1200@60 Hz (actual resolutions depend on the monitor). Connect a D-Sub compatible monitor.
  • HDMI Port: HDCP 2.3 compliant, supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio. Supports up to 192KHz/24bit 7.1-channel LPCM audio output. Connect an HDMI-supported monitor. Maximum supported resolution is 4096x2160@60 Hz (actual resolutions depend on the monitor). After installing an HDMI device, set the default sound playback device to HDMI in your operating system.
  • USB 2.0/1.1 Port: Supports USB 2.0/1.1 specification for USB devices.
  • USB 3.2 Gen 1 Port: Supports USB 3.2 Gen 1 specification and is compatible with USB 2.0. Use for USB devices.
  • RJ-45 LAN Port: Gigabit Ethernet LAN port providing Internet connection up to 1 Gbps.

You can change the functionality of an audio jack using the audio software. To configure 7.1-channel audio, access the audio software for audio settings.

⚠️ When removing a cable from a back panel connector, first remove the cable from your device and then remove it from the motherboard. When removing the cable, pull it straight out from the connector. Do not rock it side to side to prevent an electrical short inside the cable connector.

2-7 Internal Connectors

The motherboard features numerous internal connectors for various components. Below is a list with their functions:

  • 1) ATX_12V_2X4: 8-pin ATX 12V power connector for CPU.
  • 2) ATX: 24-pin ATX main power connector.
  • 3) CPU_FAN: 4-pin CPU fan header.
  • 4) SYS_FAN1/SYS_FAN2: 4-pin system fan headers.
  • 5) LED_C: RGB LED strip header (12V/G/R/B).
  • 6) SATA3 4/5/6/7: SATA 6Gb/s connectors for storage devices.
  • 7) M2P_SB: M.2 Socket 3 connector for M.2 PCIe SSDs.
  • 8) F_PANEL: Front Panel Header for power switch, reset switch, LEDs, speaker, and chassis intrusion.
  • 9) F_AUDIO: Front Panel Audio Header for HD audio.
  • 10) F_U32: USB 3.2 Gen 1 Header for two USB ports.
  • 11) F_USB1/F_USB2: USB 2.0/1.1 Headers for two USB ports each.

CPU_FAN/SYS_FAN1/SYS_FAN2 (Fan Headers): All are 4-pin headers. Connect fan cables in the correct orientation (black wire is ground). Speed control requires fans with speed control design. A system fan is recommended for optimum heat dissipation.

LED_C (RGB LED Strip Header): Connects a standard 5050 RGB LED strip (12V/G/R/B). Maximum power rating: 2A (12V), maximum length: 2m. The power pin (marked with a triangle) of the LED strip must connect to Pin 1 (12V) of this header. Incorrect connection may damage the LED strip.

⚠️ Before installing devices, turn off your computer and unplug the power cord to prevent damage.

SATA3 4/5/6/7 (SATA 6Gb/s Connectors): Conforms to SATA 6Gb/s standard, compatible with SATA 3Gb/s and 1.5Gb/s. Each connector supports a single SATA device.

M2P_SB (M.2 Socket 3 Connector): Supports only M.2 PCIe SSDs. Installation involves locating the mounting hole, installing the clip, pulling the clip tab, sliding the SSD into the connector at an angle, pressing the SSD down, and securing it with the clip tab.

F_PANEL (Front Panel Header): Connects power switch, reset switch, speaker, chassis intrusion switch/sensor, and system status indicators. Pin assignments are provided for PLED/PWR_LED (Power LED), PW (Power Switch), SPEAK (Speaker), HD (Hard Drive Activity LED), RES (Reset Switch), CI (Chassis Intrusion Header), and NC (No connection).

F_AUDIO (Front Panel Audio Header): Supports High Definition audio. Connect the chassis front panel audio module, ensuring correct wire assignments to avoid damage or malfunction.

F_U32 (USB 3.2 Gen 1 Header): Conforms to USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0 specifications, providing two USB ports. For optional 3.5" front panels, contact the local dealer.

F_USB1/F_USB2 (USB 2.0/1.1 Headers): Conforms to USB 2.0/1.1 specification, providing two USB ports each via an optional USB bracket. Contact the local dealer for brackets.

COM (Serial Port Header): Provides one serial port via an optional COM port cable. Contact the local dealer for cables.

SPI_TPM (Trusted Platform Module Header): For connecting an SPI TPM module.

CLR_CMOS (Clear CMOS Jumper): Use to clear BIOS configuration and reset CMOS values. Touch the two pins with a metal object for a few seconds. Always turn off and unplug the computer before clearing CMOS.

BAT (Battery): Provides power to the CMOS for BIOS settings, date, and time. Replace when voltage is low. Removing the battery can also clear CMOS values. Always turn off and unplug the computer before replacing the battery. Use an equivalent battery model. Note battery orientation (+/-). Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.

Chapter 3: BIOS Setup

BIOS (Basic Input and Output System) records hardware parameters in the CMOS, performs Power-On Self-Test (POST), saves system parameters, and loads the operating system. The BIOS Setup program allows modification of system configuration settings and activation of features.

The motherboard battery supplies power to the CMOS when the computer is off.

To access BIOS Setup, press the <Delete> key during POST.

To upgrade the BIOS, use GIGABYTE Q-Flash or @BIOS utility:

  • Q-Flash: Quickly and easily upgrade or back up BIOS without entering the operating system.
  • @BIOS: A Windows-based utility to search, download, and update BIOS from the Internet.

For instructions on Q-Flash and @BIOS, refer to the "Unique Features" page on GIGABYTE's website and search for "BIOS Update Utilities."

⚠️ Because BIOS flashing is potentially risky, it is recommended not to flash the BIOS unless necessary. Inadequate BIOS flashing may result in system malfunction.

⚠️ It is recommended not to alter default settings to prevent system instability or boot failure. If boot failure occurs, try clearing CMOS values and resetting the board to defaults.

Startup Screen:

The following startup Logo screen appears when the computer boots.

Function Keys:

  • <DEL>: BIOS SETUP\Q-FLASH - Press <Delete> to enter BIOS Setup or Q-Flash utility.
  • <F12>: BOOT MENU - Allows setting the first boot device without entering BIOS Setup. Use arrow keys to select a device, then press <Enter>. This setting is for one-time use; the boot order reverts to BIOS Setup settings after restart.
  • <END>: Q-FLASH - Press <End> to access the Q-Flash utility directly.

Chapter 4: Installing the Operating System and Drivers

With correct BIOS settings, you can install the operating system. After OS installation, a dialog box may prompt to download and install drivers and GIGABYTE applications via APP Center. Click Install. (Ensure APP Center Download & Install is enabled in BIOS Setup: Settings\IO Ports\APP Center Download & Install Configuration).

When the End User License Agreement dialog appears, press <Accept> to install APP Center. On the APP Center screen, select desired drivers and applications, then click Install.

Ensure the system is connected to the Internet before installation.
