Product Overview

The Minelab PRO-FIND 40 is a high-performance pinpointer designed to help locate targets quickly and accurately after initial detection. It features adjustable sensitivity, audio feedback for different target types, and a built-in LED flashlight.

Parts Identification

  • 1. Detection Area: The main probe tip where detection signals are received.
  • 2. LED Flashlight: Integrated light to illuminate the target area in low light conditions.
  • 3. Speaker: Produces audible alerts for detected targets.
  • 4. Power Button: Used to turn the device on/off and activate other functions.
  • 5. Plus (+) Button: Increases sensitivity or navigates through options.
  • 6. Minus (-) Button: Decreases sensitivity or navigates through options.
  • 7. Battery Compartment: Located at the base, housing the battery.
  • 8. 9V PP3 Battery: The standard power source for the pinpointer.
  • 9. Battery Cap: Screw-on cap that seals the battery compartment.
  • 10. O-ring: A rubber seal that ensures water resistance for the battery compartment.

Maintenance

  • Keep the screw threads of the Battery Cap and the O-ring clean to ensure proper sealing and operation.
  • Periodically lubricate the O-ring with silicone grease to maintain its elasticity and sealing capability.

Operating Instructions

Turn On

Press and hold the Power Button (4) for approximately 0.5 seconds. The device will emit a short tone, and the LED indicator will illuminate.

Turn Off

Press and hold the Power Button (4) for more than 0.5 seconds. The device will emit multiple tones, and the LED indicator will turn off.

Adjust Sensitivity (5 Levels)

Press the Plus (+) Button (5) or Minus (-) Button (6) to cycle through five sensitivity levels. The device provides visual feedback, typically indicated by the number of illuminated LEDs or segments, to show the current sensitivity setting.

Enable Audio

Press the Power Button (4) once. The device will emit a tone, indicating that audio feedback is active.

Disable Audio

Press the Power Button (4) twice. The device will emit a tone, and the audio output will be silenced. A visual indicator may show the speaker icon with a line through it.

Enable Ferrous Audio

Press and hold the Plus (+) Button (5) for approximately 3 seconds. The device will emit a tone, activating specific audio alerts for ferrous (iron) targets.

Disable Ferrous Audio

Press and hold the Minus (-) Button (6) for approximately 3 seconds. The device will emit a tone, deactivating the specific ferrous audio alerts.

Target Audio

When a non-ferrous target is detected, the pinpointer emits a continuous tone that increases in pitch and frequency as the target gets closer.

Ferrous Audio

When a ferrous (iron) target is detected, the pinpointer emits a distinct, intermittent tone that increases in frequency as the target gets closer.

Rapid Re-Tune

To quickly re-tune the pinpointer to its environment or eliminate false signals, briefly press the Power Button (4). This recalibrates the device.

Inactive Alarm

If the pinpointer is left powered on and inactive for an extended period (e.g., 5 minutes), it will emit an intermittent alarm to alert the user. The device will automatically shut down after a further period of inactivity.

Factory Reset

To restore the pinpointer to its original factory settings, perform the following sequence: Press and hold the Power Button (4) and the Plus (+) Button (5) simultaneously. While holding both, press the Power Button (4) again. The device will then enter a reset sequence, indicated by a series of tones for approximately 6 seconds.
