Minelab GO-FIND Series Metal Detector
This guide provides instructions for the Minelab GO-FIND 20, 40, and 60 series metal detectors.
Basic Search Principles
Quick Start Guide
Step 1: Power On
Turn on your metal detector. The LCD display will illuminate, showing several icons.
Step 2: Start Searching
Move the coil over the ground in a side-to-side motion. The metal detector will beep and light up when a metallic object is detected.
Treasure View Function (GO-FIND 40/60 Only)
Treasure View LEDs illuminate when a metallic object is detected. More LEDs light up as you get closer to the target.
- Red LED: Indicates a ferrous metallic object (likely trash).
- Green LED: Indicates a non-ferrous metallic object (likely treasure).
- Orange LED: Indicates Pinpoint mode for all metallic objects.
LEDs light from left to right when Pinpoint is off. LEDs light towards the center when Pinpoint is on, helping to locate the object precisely.
Coil Sweep Height
Keep the coil 1-2 inches (2-3 cm) above and parallel to the ground at all times.
Object Found
The metal detector will light up and emit a sound signal upon detecting a target.
Speed
Sweep the coil side-to-side. An average sweep speed is 1-2 seconds from left to right.
Adjustment
The detector should be aligned with your forearm and be light and comfortable to lift.
Icon Description
When a metallic object is detected, the corresponding icon flashes on the control panel, indicating the target type. If an icon is off (not visible), these target types will not be detected.
- Icon 1: Ferrous objects, nails, and horseshoes.
- Icon 2: Aluminum foil and low-value coins.
- Icon 3: Rings, pull tabs, and low-value coins.
- Icon 4: High and low-value coins, and screw caps.
Overlapping Sweep
Slightly overlap previous sweeps to ensure complete ground coverage.
Spacing
A recommended distance of 50 feet (15 m) between users is advised when scanning an area.
Control Panel
Description of controls:
- 1) Power Switch: Turns the unit ON/OFF.
- 2) Headphone Input: For connecting headphones.
- 3) Sensitivity: Increase for greater detection depth. You may need to decrease it in high noise environments or for false signals.
- 4) Pinpoint Function (GO-FIND 40/60 Only): Pinpoints the exact location of a target.
- 5) Volume: Adjusts the audio output level.
- 6) Backlight (GO-FIND 40/60 Only): Illuminates the display.
- 7) FIND Mode: Detects and rejects specific metal types.
- 8) Depth Indicator: Shows target depth (Shallow | Medium | Deep).
- 9) Treasure View LED Indicator (GO-FIND 40/60 Only): Red and green LEDs help quickly separate treasure from trash.
- 10) FIND Mode Icons (x4): Visual indicators for selected FIND modes.
- 11) Battery Charge Level: Indicates remaining battery power.
- 12) Bluetooth (GO-FIND 40/60 Only): For wireless connectivity.
Audio Output: 1/8-inch jack with a speaker on the back panel.
FIND Modes
FIND modes allow you to search for specific groups of metallic items, accepting or rejecting their detection. This means you don't need to dig trash – only treasure!
Switch between different modes using the "Find" button.
Model | FIND Modes Available |
---|---|
GO-FIND 20 | 2 modes |
GO-FIND 40 | 3 modes |
GO-FIND 60 | 4 modes |
Each mode is associated with icons representing target types (e.g., iron, foil/low value, rings/pull tabs, high/low value coins).
Metal Detector Audio Signals
The metal detector emits an audio signal when an object is detected. This signal can be heard through the detector's speaker or headphones connected to the audio output jack.
Model | Audio Tones | Tone Description |
---|---|---|
GO-FIND 20 | 2 Tones: Low, High | Low Tone: Ferrous targets (e.g., nails). High Tone: Silver and copper targets. |
GO-FIND 40 | 3 Tones: Low, Mid 1, High | Low Tone: Ferrous targets. Mid 1 Tone: Less valuable metals. High Tone: Silver and copper targets. |
GO-FIND 60 | 4 Tones: Low, Mid 1, Mid 2, High | Low Tone: Ferrous targets. Mid 1 Tone: Less valuable metals. Mid 2 Tone: More valuable metals. High Tone: Silver and copper targets. |
Setup Instructions
The GO-FIND metal detector requires no assembly or tools for initial setup.
- Step 1: The GO-FIND metal detector requires no assembly or tools. Simply unpack it from the box.
- Step 2: Press the red release buttons on both sides to adjust the upper shaft to the desired length for your height.
- Step 3: Insert 4 x 1.5V AA batteries (not included) and secure them in place with a CLICK (or leave retracted for a shorter detector length).
- Step 4: Extend the armrest to the desired length (usually just below your elbow) for a secure fit around your arm.
- Step 5: Tilt the search coil to be parallel to the ground during searching. Tighten the wing nut to secure the position. Be careful not to overtighten.
- Step 6: Fully extend the lower shaft and click into place (or leave retracted for a shorter detector length).
- Step 7: Release the rotary lock lever to adjust the upper shaft to the desired length.
- Step 8: Adjust the armrest strap for a secure fit around your arm.
Important Notes:
- Failure to press the release button when retracting the shaft may cause damage.
- Do not lean on the metal detector during use, as it is not designed to support your weight.
- The search coil is waterproof.
