- ❗ ATTENTION INSTALLER: ALL COOKTOPS MUST BE HARD WIRED (DIRECT WIRED) INTO AN APPROVED JUNCTION BOX. A "PLUG AND RECEPTACLE" IS NOT PERMITTED ON THESE PRODUCTS.
- Proper installation is the responsibility of the installer and product failure due to improper installation is NOT covered under warranty.
- Consider recycling options for your appliance packaging material.

Cutting the Countertop
If installing in solid surface materials (granite, quartz, etc.), professional preparation is recommended. For wood or laminate countertops, a saber saw and electric drill may be used.
Important Safety Instructions
For Your Safety
- For personal safety, remove house fuse or open circuit breaker before beginning installation. Failure to do so could result in serious injury or death.
- Ensure your cooktop is installed by a qualified installer or service technician.
- To prevent burns or fire from reaching over heated elements, avoid cabinet storage directly above cooktop units. If storage is necessary, a range hood projecting at least 5" horizontally beyond the cabinets can reduce risk. Cabinet depth above the cooktop should not exceed 13".
- Ensure cabinets and wall coverings can withstand temperatures up to 200°F generated by the cooktop.
- The cooktop should be easily accessible and well-lit by natural light.
- Always disconnect electrical service before repairing or servicing. Failure to do so can cause dangerous or fatal shock. Know your main disconnect switch location.
Note to Electrician
Power leads are UL recognized for larger gauge wiring. Insulation is rated for higher temperatures. Conductor capacity depends on wire gauge and insulation temperature rating.
Note: Aluminum Wiring
⚠️ WARNING: Installations with Aluminum House Wiring Require Attention:
- Improper connection of aluminum house wiring to copper appliance leads can cause electrical hazard or fire. Use only UL-approved connectors for copper-to-aluminum joining and follow manufacturer procedures closely.
- Aluminum to Copper wiring connections must comply with the National Electrical Code, local codes, and industry-accepted practices.
- If using an anti-oxidant compound, it must be UL-Listed and suitable for the application materials, voltage, and temperature.
- Connectors for aluminum and copper wiring may be larger. Use a double-gang or larger electrical box for connectors.
Electrical Requirements
Appliance must be supplied with proper voltage and frequency, connected to an individual, properly grounded branch circuit protected by a circuit breaker or time delay fuse as noted on the nameplate and chart.

It is recommended to have electrical wiring and hookup done by a qualified electrician. Ask the electrician to show you the location of the main cooktop disconnect.
Wiring must conform to the National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA No. 70-Latest Edition). For copies, write to: National Fire Protection Association, Batterymarch Park, Quincy, MA 02269.
In Canada, wiring must conform to the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC).
Cooktop conduit wiring is approved for copper wire only. For aluminum house wiring, use special UL approved connectors for copper-to-aluminum joining. In Canada, use special CSA approved connectors. Installations with aluminum house wiring require attention (see Aluminum Wiring note above).
Use a two-wire, three-conductor 208/240 VAC, 60 Hertz system. A white (neutral) wire is not needed. The cooktop must be installed in a circuit not exceeding 125 VAC nominal to ground.
Refer to the cooktop name plate for its specific KW rating.

Pre-Installation Checklist
⚠️ WARNING: Electrical power to the cooktop supply line must be shut off during connections. Failure to do so could result in serious injury or death.
- When preparing the cooktop opening, ensure the inside of the cabinet and the cooktop do not interfere with each other. (Refer to the section on preparing the opening.)
- Remove packaging materials and literature package from the cooktop before beginning installation. [Diagram: Cooktop with foam packaging and literature package shown]
- Place all literature (Owner's Manual, installation instructions, etc.) in a safe place for future reference.
- Ensure you have all necessary tools and materials before starting installation.
- Your home must provide adequate electrical service for safe and proper use. (Refer to Electrical Requirements section.)
- When installing, ensure all local codes and ordinances are followed exactly.
- Ensure wall coverings, countertop, and cabinets around the cooktop can withstand heat (up to 200°F) generated by the cooktop.
H. Installing Cooktop in Combination with Other Products
Both products must be installed per their specific instructions. Consider separate electrical requirements and locations.
- Over one or two wall ovens: Only certain models are approved for installation over wall ovens. Both the oven and cooktop will have a label indicating approved combinations.
- Over a Microwave: Refer to microwave installation instructions for installing a microwave under a cooktop. Consult the "Approximate Cooktop Dimensions" section for vertical dimensions.
- In combination with telescopic downdraft vent: Refer to vent installation instructions for installing a vent behind a cooktop. The countertop must have a deep, flat surface for the combined installation.
- Over a warming drawer: Refer to warming drawer instructions for installing a warming drawer under a cooktop. Consult the "Approximate Cooktop Dimensions" section for vertical dimensions.

2. Cutout Dimensions of the Countertop
It is recommended to create a template for accuracy when cutting the opening.
Cutout Length: 28 1/2 - 28 5/8" (30" models); 33 7/8 - 34" (36" models)
Cutout Width: 19 5/8 - 19 3/4" (30" models); 19 1/8 - 19 1/4" (36" models)

JXTR32 Cutout Filler Trim Kit (for 30" models)
A filler trim kit (JXTR32B black, JXTR32W white) is available if your countertop cutout is larger than specified (up to 29-13/16" x 20-7/16"). Order from your dealer or GE Appliances at www.geappliances.com.
3. Minimum Clearances to Adjacent Walls & Cabinets
Diagrams illustrate required clearances:
- Max 13" depth for unprotected overhead cabinets.
- 30" min clearance from countertop to unprotected overhead surface.
- 30" min for 30" cooktop, 36" min for 36" cooktop (clearance to side walls/cabinets).
- 1 1/2" min (30") and 2" min (36") clearance from cutout to nearest vertical wall or cabinet on the right side, below the 15" MIN clearance height.
- 2" min clearance from cutout to nearest vertical wall or cabinet on the left side, below the 15" MIN clearance height.
- 15" min clearance from countertop to the underside of nearest cabinets on both sides, including any light rails.
If 30" clearance to overhead combustible materials or metal cabinets cannot be maintained, a minimum 24" clearance is required. The underside of cabinets above the cooktop must be protected with 1/4" insulating millboard covered with sheet metal (30 gage or thicker).
A ventilation hood may be installed above the cooktop; consult hood installation instructions for dimensions and clearances.

4. Heat Resistance
Ensure wall coverings, countertop, and cabinets around the cooktop can withstand heat up to 200°F generated by the cooktop.

5. Vertical Clearance
Allow a minimum 5" vertical clearance from the cooktop bottom (or 8-1/4" minimum depth from the countertop) to any combustible surfaces, such as a cabinet drawer.

6. ADA Forward Approach Installation
- For models with no drop box (e.g., JP3030, JP3530, JP3036, JP3536): Allow 5" minimum depth between the countertop and enclosure for forward approach.
- For electronic touch and backlit knob models: Allow 6-1/2" minimum depth between the countertop and enclosure.
NOTE: Enclosure must be wood. An access panel is required for the junction box, hold-down brackets, and service.

Installing the Cooktop
1. Vertical Clearance (Junction Box)
Install an approved junction box where it is easily accessible from the front of the cabinet where the cooktop is located. The cooktop conduit is 4 feet long.

⚠️ WARNING: The junction box must be located to allow sufficient slack in the conduit for serviceability.
2. Protect Surface of Cooktop
Place a towel or tablecloth on the countertop. Lay the cooktop upside down on the protected surface.

3. Attach Foam Tape
Apply foam tape around the outer edge of the glass. Do not overlap the foam tape.
NOTE: For ZEU30 and ZEU36 models, apply foam tape only around the outer edge of the glass on the sides and rear.

4. Mounting Parts
Remove hold down brackets and screws from the literature package.
Screw the hold down bracket to the side of the cooktop unit. Repeat for the opposite side.

Alternate Installation:
An alternate installation kit (WB01X24570) with wing nuts and brackets is available. Open the cabinet door, install the second screw through the bracket and tighten. Then tighten the first screw. Install the thumbscrew until it touches the bottom of the countertop. Do not overtighten.

5. Insert Cooktop into Cutout
Insert the cooktop centered into the cutout opening. Ensure the front edge of the countertop is parallel to the cooktop. Perform a final check of all required clearances.
Attach hold down brackets to the cabinet.

6. Electrical Connections
⚠️ WARNING: Installations with Aluminum House Wiring require attention. See Warning under NOTES: ALUMINUM WIRING on page 2.
- Use the entire length of the provided conduit for wire connections. Do not shorten the conduit.
- With the cooktop in place, open the front of the cabinet door.
- Insert the wires from the conduit through the opening of the junction box.
- Connect the red and black leads from the cooktop conduit to the corresponding leads in the junction box. Connect the ground wire.
- Once connections are made, secure wires together using wire nuts.

Installation - Electrical Connections
Grounding Instructions
The ground wire in the conduit connects to the cooktop frame. Effective January 1, 1996, the National Electrical Code prohibits grounding through neutral. If used in new construction after Jan 1, 1996, or in a mobile home, recreational vehicle, or if local codes prohibit grounding through the neutral white lead, attach the appliance grounding lead (green or copper) to the residence grounding conductor (green or bare copper) per local codes.
For a 3-conductor branch circuit, if local codes permit, connect the cooktop ground connector lead to the branch circuit neutral (gray or white).
⚠️ WARNING: If installing into a blind counter (no cabinet opening below), wire connections must be made before placing the cooktop into the cutout opening.
Checklists
1. Pre-Test Checklist
- A. Remove all protective film and stickers.
- B. Ensure all wiring is secure, not pinched, and not in contact with moving parts.
- C. Check appliance level.
- D. Verify the cooktop is properly grounded.
2. Operation Checklist
- A. Remove all items from the cooktop surface.
- B. Turn on power (refer to Owner's Manual). Verify all surface burners operate properly.
- C. Check that the circuit breaker is not tripped and the house fuse is not blown.
- D. Verify conduit is securely connected to the junction box.
