User Manual

Safety Instructions

This user manual contains information on the operation of the equipment and precautions to be followed for user safety. Please read it carefully before first use and keep it in a safe place for future reference. These instructions must be read and understood before any operation. Any modification or maintenance not indicated in the manual must not be undertaken. Any damage to persons or property caused by use not in accordance with the instructions in this manual shall not be borne by the manufacturer. In the event of a problem or uncertainty, consult a qualified person to handle the product correctly.

This equipment is intended solely for eye protection against ultraviolet/infrared radiation (UV/IR), incandescent projections, and sparks generated during welding and cutting operations.

Never look directly at welding arcs without eye protection when the arc is initiated. Failure to do so may cause painful inflammation of the cornea and potentially irreversible damage to the lens, which may result in cataracts.

⚠️ Danger of injury if a person wearing a mask and goggles is hit by particles thrown at high speed.

The mask, filter, and shields do not guarantee unlimited protection against major shocks or impacts, explosive mechanisms, or corrosive liquids. Avoid welding or cutting in these severe environments.

Do not weld or cut above your head with this mask.

Move your face away from the smoky area. Use forced ventilation or a local exhaust system to remove smoke.

Oxyacetylene, laser, or gas welding and cutting is not permitted with this mask.

Before Each Use

  • Carefully inspect the mask and its UV/IR filter.
  • Replace worn or damaged parts immediately.
  • Replace filter lenses or face shields if they are cracked or scratched to prevent damage to the user's eyes.
  • The headband may potentially cause allergies in sensitive individuals.
  • The operating temperatures of the optoelectronic filter are from -5°C to +55°C.
  • The optoelectronic filter in the mask is not waterproof and will not function properly if it has been in contact with water.
  • The welding mask must be moved carefully to avoid damage to the filter, guards, and/or protective shell.

Maintenance

  • Do not place heavy objects or tools on or in the facepiece to avoid damage to the filter or face shields.
  • Mask storage temperatures range from -10°C to +60°C.
  • Clean the Optoelectronic Filter with a clean cotton or special lens cloth.
  • Regularly clean and change the guard screens.
  • Clean the inside and outside of the mask with a neutral detergent-disinfectant. Do not use solvents.
  • Make sure that the sensors and cell are not obstructed by dust or debris.
  • It is recommended to use the mask and visors for 5 years. The length of use depends on various factors such as type of use, cleaning, storage, and maintenance.

Pre-Use Checks

  • Check the general condition of the mask and headband adjustments.
  • Check the correct positioning and condition of the guard screens and filter. If any anomaly occurs, proceed to its repair.
  • Ensure that the detectors (4) and cell (2) are not obstructed by dust or debris.
  • Ensure that protective films are removed from the outer and inner guard screens.
  • Verify that the protection level corresponds to the welding processes used. Refer to the 'Welding Processes' table to help with your choice.

Operation

The Zeus 3/5-13G TRUE COLOR auto-darkening welding helmet switches instantly from a light to a dark state when a welding arc is struck, and returns to the light state when the arc stops.

Helmet Components:

1. Sensitivity control knob

2. Delay time control knob

3. Protection screen

4. Solar cell

5. Filter

6. Detectors

7. Welding-Grind potentiometer

8. Filter

9. Potentiometer (welding - grinding)

10. Lithium battery (CR2045) x2

Replacing the Mask Battery

The optoelectronic filter uses 2 x 3V lithium batteries (CR2045*2). Follow the instructions below for battery replacement:

  • Pull the cover and then remove the battery.
  • Place the new battery in its housing. The '+' polarity must remain visible.
  • Replace the cover.
  • It is recommended to replace the battery once a year.

WARNING: Recycle used lithium batteries. Batteries are considered hazardous waste in Europe. Do not dispose of in household waste; deposit only in designated collection points for used batteries.

Replacing the Guard Screens

External Guard Screen

The outer protection screen (2) can be removed by placing a finger under the screen at point (A) on the helmet (1). When changing the screen, remember to remove the protective film (3) beforehand. This film can only be removed when the guard screen is already in position in the helmet.

Internal Guard Screen

To change the internal guard screen (10), slide it downwards by placing a finger on point (A). When changing the screen, remember to remove the protective film (11) beforehand.

Troubleshooting

ProblemSolution
The optoelectronic filter does not work.Activate solar charge by exposing the cell to light for 20 to 30 minutes.
Filter remains dark when no arc is present or when the arc is extinguished.Check and clean the detectors if necessary.
Uncontrolled switching or flickering: The filter switches between light and dark states during welding.Ensure that the detectors are properly aligned with the arc and are not obstructed.
The sides of the filter are lighter than the center of the viewing area. This is a natural characteristic of LCDs and is not dangerous for the eyes. However, for maximum comfort, try to maintain a viewing angle close to 90°.

Safety Label

This label is displayed inside the welding helmet. It is important that the user understands the meaning of the safety symbols. The list numbers correspond to the image numbers.

Diagram Description: A collection of safety symbols commonly found on welding helmets, numbered 1 through 8, with a general warning symbol 'A'.

Legend:

A. Warning! Beware! Possible dangers are indicated by the symbols.

1. Read instructions carefully before using the equipment or welding.

2. Do not remove or paint over the warning label.

3. Follow instructions for adjusting and maintaining the filter, protective screens, headband, and hood.

4. Inspect the helmet and UV/IR filter carefully. Replace worn or damaged parts immediately. Cracked or scratched filter glasses or screens significantly reduce protection. Replace them immediately to avoid eye damage.

5. Warning: If the UV/IR filter does not darken during welding or cutting, stop immediately (consult the user manual).

6. Arc radiation can cause eye and skin burns.

6.1. Use a welding helmet with appropriate filtration or shade. Wear complete protective clothing.

6.2. The helmet, filter, and guard screens do not guarantee unlimited protection against strong impacts, explosive mechanisms, or corrosive liquids. Avoid welding or cutting in harsh environments.

6.3. Do not weld or cut overhead with this helmet.

7. Keep your head away from smoky areas. Use forced ventilation or a local exhaust system to remove smoke.

8. Oxyacetylene, laser, or gas welding/cutting is not permitted with this helmet.
