GYS Hand Mask

User Manual and Safety Guide

Introduction

This user manual provides essential information on the operation of the GYS Hand Mask welding helmet and the precautions to follow for user safety. Please read it carefully before first use and keep it in a safe place for future reference.

These instructions must be read and understood before any operation. Any modification or maintenance not indicated in this manual must not be undertaken. Any damage to persons or property caused by use not in accordance with these instructions shall not be borne by the manufacturer. In case of a problem or uncertainty, consult a qualified person to handle the product correctly.

Product Description

The GYS Hand Mask is designed exclusively for eye and face protection against harmful ultraviolet and infrared radiation (UV/IR), incandescent sparks, and spatter generated during welding and cutting operations.

The mask is manufactured from polypropylene plastic, which may potentially cause allergies in sensitive individuals. Handle the welding mask with care to avoid damaging the filter, protective screens, or shell.

Safety Instructions & Precautions

  • Never look directly at welding arcs without eye protection when the arc is initiated. Failure to do so may cause painful inflammation of the cornea and potentially irreversible damage to the lens, which may result in cataracts.
  • ⚠️ Caution! Danger of injury if a person wearing a mask and goggles is hit by particles thrown at high speed.
  • The mask, filter, and shields do not guarantee unlimited protection against major shocks, impacts, explosive mechanisms, or corrosive liquids. Avoid welding or cutting in severe environments.
  • Do not weld or cut overhead with this mask.
  • Move your face away from smoky areas. Use forced ventilation or local exhaust to remove smoke.
  • Oxyacetylene, laser, or gas welding and cutting are not permitted with this mask.

Before Each Use

  • Carefully inspect the mask.
  • Replace worn or damaged parts immediately.
  • Replace face shields if they are cracked or scratched to prevent damage to the user's eyes.
  • Check that the welding helmet is in good condition and that the headband is adjusted correctly.
  • Verify the correct positioning and condition of the protective screens and the filter. If any anomaly is found, proceed to its reconditioning.
  • Ensure that protective films are removed from both the outer and inner protective screens.
  • Check that the protection level matches your welding processes. Refer to the welding process chart for assistance in choosing the correct level.

Operation

When welding, hold the welding mask with one hand by the internal handle. Move the mask away at the end of the weld.

Maintenance

  • Do not place heavy objects or tools on or in the facepiece to avoid damaging the filter or face shields.
  • Mask storage temperatures range from -20°C to +70°C.
  • Regularly clean and change the guard screens.
  • Clean the inside and outside of the mask with a neutral detergent-disinfectant. Do not use solvents.
  • Ensure that the sensors and cell are not obstructed by dust or debris.
  • We recommend using the mask and visors for 5 years. The duration of use depends on various factors such as type of use, cleaning, storage, and maintenance.
  • There is no expiration date for this product, but the condition of the welding helmet must be checked before each use.
  • The welding helmet must not fall to the ground.
  • Do not use any tools or sharp objects to remove components of the mask or filter, as this could cause damage, injury, or void the warranty.
  • Clean the filter with a clean cotton cloth or a special lens cloth.

Replacing the Filter and Outer Protection Sheet

Follow these steps to replace the filter and outer protection sheet:

  1. Unclip the filter holder.
  2. Replace the filter (Ref. 042643).
  3. Replace the outer protection sheet (Ref. 042629). Remember to remove the protective film from the new screen before installation.

Safety Label Explanation

The safety label inside the helmet provides important symbols. Refer to the legend below:

A. Attention! Be aware of possible dangers indicated by symbols.

  1. Read instructions before use or welding.
  2. Do not remove or paint over the warning label.
  3. Follow instructions for adjusting and maintaining the filter, protective screens, headband, and hood.
  4. Inspect the helmet and UV/IR filter carefully. Replace worn or damaged parts immediately. Cracked or scratched lenses/screens significantly reduce protection. Replace them immediately to avoid eye damage.
  5. Warning: If the UV/IR filter does not darken during welding or cutting, stop immediately. (Consult user manual)
  6. Arc radiation can cause eye and skin burns.
  7. 6.1. Use a welding helmet with appropriate filtration/opacity. Wear complete protective clothing.
  8. 6.2. The helmet, filter, and screens do not guarantee unlimited protection against impacts, explosions, or corrosive liquids. Avoid welding/cutting in severe environments.
  9. 6.3. Do not weld or cut overhead with this helmet.
  10. Keep your head away from smoky areas. Use forced ventilation or local exhaust to remove smoke.
  11. Oxyacetylene, laser, or gas welding/cutting is not permitted with this helmet.

Markings and Compliance

The welding helmet and its components comply with relevant standards and regulations, including EN 175 and EN 166 for protective screens, and Regulation (EU) 2016/425 for personal protective equipment.

Marking of Guard Screens: Indicates step number, manufacturer identification, optical class (Class 1), and CE marking.

Welding Helmet Marking: Complies with EN 175 standard, includes manufacturer identification, reference to EN 175, and model details.

If the ocular and the mount do not display the same degree of protection (F, B, and A), the overall eye protection device's protection degree corresponds to the lowest protection degree. Eye protection should only be used against high-velocity particles at temperature.
