Scan Mode

Assign the scan function to the PF2/PF3 side keys, or long press the 1 button to initiate frequency or channel scanning. You can choose from the following modes via Menu 22:

  1. Time Operated (TO): When the walkie-talkie detects a signal, it stops scanning and remains on the same frequency. After 5 seconds, it resumes scanning, even if the signal is still present.
  2. Carrier Operated (CO): The walkie-talkie stops scanning and remains on the same frequency when it detects a signal, until the signal disappears. After the signal is lost, scanning resumes with a 2-second delay.
  3. Search Operated (SE): After detecting a signal, the walkie-talkie exits scan and stays on that frequency.

FM Commercial Radio Reception (Long Press Button 0)

After setting the side keys (PF buttons) to SEARCH, press the button until the LCD display shows "SEARCH/SEEK...". Press the Menu button to select the frequency band (UHF/VHF/200M/300M). After capturing a frequency, the search will continue with the CTCSS/DCS subtonal. If no subtonal is found, the LCD display will show "NONE". At this point, you can press the [MENU] key to save the frequency to a specific channel or press the UP or DOWN keys to start scanning the next frequency.

NOAA Weather Alert Function

(Assign PF key as NOAA from menu 22-24)

Press the designated side key to activate this function. The radio has 10 built-in fixed frequencies. You can press the UP/DOWN keys to select the desired frequency.

DTMF Code Sending

  • Quick Operation: Press and hold the PTT button while entering the numeric keys 0-9, MENU, UP, DOWN, EXIT, * and #. The radio will transmit DTMF codes 0-9, A, B, C, D, * and #. Release the button to stop sending codes.
  • DTMF Code Modification: In standby mode, long press the DTMF key to access the DTMF code modification interface. You can enter codes 0-9, OK, UP, DOWN, Exit, * and # via the keypad. Press PTT to send the DTMF code.

PTT-ID Function

Transmits identification codes or call codes via DTMF. 15 sets of call codes are available, configurable via "Programming Software → Modify → DTMF". Each signal or A/B band can independently select the call code group to send. Configure identity code parameters via "Programming Software → Modify → DTMF → Local ID Code". Three transmission methods are available:

  • Send on Press: After pressing the PTT key, the call/ID code is sent first, followed by the voice signal.
  • Send on Release: After releasing the PTT, the call/ID code is sent, then the transmission ends.
  • Send Both: The call/ID code is sent both when the PTT is pressed and when it is released. Note: Since the ID code operation is independent of the call code, if there is a conflict between the ID code and the call code settings, the ID code will be sent.

Function Menu

The radio offers a comprehensive menu system for configuring various functions:

NOMenuSub-menuSettingDescription
0SQL0,...,9Setting squelch to off completely disables it. Squelch silences the receiver in the absence of a signal. Lower levels are more prone to interference, while higher levels reduce sensitivity. Set to the middle for better balance.
1STEP2.50K, 5.00K, 6.25K, 10.00K, 12.50K, 20.00K, 25.00K, 50.00KIn frequency mode, press UP and DOWN keys to change the frequency step. Select the frequency variation quantity in VFO/frequency mode when scanning or pressing UP/DOWN keys.
2TXPHIGH, MEDIUM, LOW, OFFTransmit at high power, medium power, or low power.
3SAVE1. Normal, 2. Super, 3. DeepDisables power saving. Selects the sleep/wake cycle ratio (1:1, 2:1, 3:1). A higher number means longer battery life. A higher number increases the RX sleep cycle, but you might miss the first syllables before RX opens.
4VOXOFF, 1,2,...,9Disables the voice transmission function. Activates the VOX function; level 1 is maximum sensitivity. When enabled, the PTT button does not need to be pressed.

Conformity to Exposure Standards

This two-way radio uses radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic energy for communication. RF energy is a form of electromagnetic energy. While RF energy is generally safe when used as intended, high levels of certain electromagnetic energies (like X-rays) can cause harm. Experts in science, engineering, medicine, health, and industry collaborate to develop standards for safe RF exposure, including wide safety margins. All RADTEL transceivers are designed, manufactured, and tested to comply with government-established RF exposure levels. Manufacturers recommend specific operating instructions for users to control RF exposure. For more information, visit http://www.who.int/en/.

Local Government Regulations

When using two-way radios in a professional setting, local regulations require users to be fully aware of and control their RF exposure to meet professional requirements. This awareness is facilitated by product labels directing users to specific information. The Radtel two-way radio has a product label for RF exposure. The Radtel user manual or separate safety booklet includes necessary information and operating instructions for controlling RF exposure and meeting compliance requirements.

Radio License

Governments classify walkie-talkies. Most classified walkie-talkies must be surrendered to the local government. For detailed classification and usage, contact local radio management offices. For specific classifications like USA/CA FRS, Australian CB, EU PMR446, an individual license is not required.
