Rinstrum C320 Mimic Remote Display

Application

An upstairs hopper scale equipped with a C320 indicator is connected to a second C320 indicator located at a ground floor workstation. Both C320 units operate seamlessly, accepting keystroke commands regardless of the operator's location. Calibration can also be performed from either unit.

Diagram illustrating the connection between a Scale unit (a Rinstrum C320 indicator connected to a scale) and a Remote unit (another Rinstrum C320 indicator). The diagram shows the two units connected, implying a data link for mirroring operations.
  • When a connection is established between the Mixer Workstation (Scale unit) and the Ground Floor (Remote unit), the Remote indicator will mimic the Scale indicator.
  • This mimicry includes all display features such as weight value, unit of measure, annunciators, backlight color, and error messages.
  • All operator functions, including remote zero, tare, gross/net weight selection, unit switching, and printing, can be executed from the remote unit.

The connection between the C320 units can be configured via the setup menu's serial communication section.

Components

The system comprises the following components:

  • Two C320 Indicators
  • One 0351 RS232/485 serial crossover Cable

Operation

The TARGET key is primarily used to view and edit setpoint target values, which include OVER, UNDER, PASS, Status, Weigh In, and Weigh Out parameters. In this system configuration, both the scale unit and the remote unit are capable of editing these setpoint targets.

The process for editing setpoints is as follows:

  • A long press of the TARGET function key will display the first setpoint name and its current target value.
  • Press the OK key to enter the edit mode.
  • Use the ARROW keys to adjust the setpoint target value.
  • Press the OK key again to save the changes.

Hardware Configuration

Two C320 indicators are connected using a serial crossover cable to enable serial output from one unit to the second indicator.

Wiring diagram detailing the connections. The 'Scale Unit' shows terminals for Power Supply (5V-24V), Load cell connections, and Serial Output (Tx, Rx, Gnd, Shld). The Serial Output terminals are connected via a serial crossover cable to the corresponding terminals on the 'Remote Unit' (Tx to Rx, Rx to Tx, Gnd to Gnd, Shld to Shld). A 'Serial 5 VDC' connection is also indicated.

Setup Menu Configuration – Remote Unit

To access the setup mode, use the viewer software and place the rinLINK device on the front optical port of the indicator.

Within the FULL SETUP menu, the following key configurations are relevant for setting up a remote unit:

  • LANG: EN (English)
  • SERIAL settings:
    • BAUD: 9600
    • DATA: 8
    • PARITY: P NONE
    • STOP: 1
    • ADDR: 1
    • TYPE: REMOTE
    • REM.TYP: MIMIC. This setting configures the unit to function as a remote unit that mimics the primary scale unit.
    • TIM.OUT: 2.0 s

Note: A C3 indicator can also be configured as a remote unit to another Rinstrum indicator by setting REM.TYPE to REM.M. The main C320 unit, acting as the scale unit, does not require any special configuration.
