ASUS ROG STRIX B660-F GAMING WIFI Quick Start Guide
Motherboard Layout
The motherboard features the Intel® B660 chipset and supports LGA1700 socket CPUs. It includes:
- CPU Socket: LGA1700
- Memory Slots: DDR5 DIMM_A1, DDR4 DIMM_A2, DDR4 DIMM_B1, DDR4 DIMM_B2 (Note: Check specific board revision for supported RAM type, typically DDR5 for this model).
- M.2 Slots: M.2_1 (SOCKET3), M.2_2 (SOCKET3), M.2_3 (SOCKET3), M.2(WIFI) for storage and Wi-Fi modules.
- PCIe Slots: PCIEX16(G5), PCIEX16(G3), PCIEX1(G3)_1, PCIEX1(G3)_2 for expansion cards.
- Power Connectors: ATX_PWR (24-pin), ATX_12V_1, ATX_12V_2 (8-pin CPU power).
- Fan Headers: CPU_FAN, CPU_OPT, AIO_PUMP, CHA_FAN1, CHA_FAN2, CHA_FAN3, CHA_FAN4.
- Other Connectors: RGB_HEADER, ADD GEN2_1/2/3, PANEL (front panel connectors), AAFP (audio), T_SENSOR, TB_HEADER (Thunderbolt), USB headers (USB_E12, USB_E34, USB_56, TYPE-C), SATA ports (SATA6G_1-4), LAN, Ethernet, DIGI+ VRM, Super I/O, BIOS SPI, CLRTC.
- Dimensions: Approximately 24.4cm (9.6in) width and 30.5cm (12in) length (ATX form factor).
Step 1: Install the CPU
Carefully open the CPU socket lever on the motherboard. Align the CPU's triangular indicator with the corresponding mark on the socket. Gently place the CPU into the socket without forcing it. Close the CPU socket lever to secure the CPU.
Step 2: Install the CPU fan
Apply thermal paste to the top of the CPU if it's not pre-applied. Mount the CPU cooler onto the motherboard, ensuring it is securely fastened. Connect the CPU fan's power cable to the CPU_FAN header on the motherboard.
Step 3: Install memory modules
Open the clips on the sides of the DIMM slots. Align the notch on the memory module with the notch in the DIMM slot. Press down firmly on both ends of the memory module until it clicks into place and the clips secure it.
Step 4: Install storage devices
Install M.2 storage devices into the designated M.2 slots, securing them with screws. Install other storage devices like SATA SSDs or HDDs and connect them to the motherboard's SATA ports.
Step 5: Install expansion card(s)
Remove the appropriate expansion slot cover(s) from the computer case. Align the expansion card (e.g., graphics card) with the corresponding PCIe slot on the motherboard. Press down firmly until the card is fully seated. Secure the card to the case with screws.
Step 6: Install the system panel connector
Connect the computer case's front panel cables (power switch, reset switch, HDD LED, power LED) to the motherboard's system panel header. Also, connect the case's USB and audio headers to their respective connectors on the motherboard.
Step 7: Install ATX power connectors
Connect the main 24-pin ATX power connector from the power supply unit to the ATX_PWR header on the motherboard. Connect the 8-pin (or 4+4 pin) CPU power connector from the power supply to the ATX_12V header(s).
Step 8: Connect input/output devices
Connect your monitor to the graphics card or motherboard display output. Connect your keyboard, mouse, and other peripherals to the USB ports on the rear I/O panel. Connect network cables and audio devices as needed.
Step 9: Power on the system and install operating system and drivers
Connect the power cord and turn on the computer. Access the BIOS/UEFI setup (usually by pressing DEL or F2 during startup) to configure settings. Insert your operating system installation media (USB or DVD) and follow the on-screen prompts to install the OS. After OS installation, install all necessary motherboard drivers and utilities.
