Installation Guide
WiFi 6 AX1800 Dual Band PoE Access Point
Model WAX214
Mounting Options
You can mount the access point to a solid surface (a wall or a ceiling), to a ceiling with a 15/16 in. (23.8 mm) T-bar, or install it freestanding on a flat surface. A flat Ethernet cable is recommended to fit in the narrow space between the access point and the mounting surface.
Mount to a solid wall
The bottom of the access point has two holes for mounting on two screws inserted into a wall.
Steps:
- Mark the wall for anchors and screws, spaced 3.875 in. (98.5 mm) apart. Insert anchors and screws, leaving about 0.25 in. (6 mm) protruding from the wall.
- Align the holes on the bottom of the access point with the protruding screws and mount the access point to the wall.
Mount to a T-bar
Steps:
- Slide the 15/16 in. (23.8 mm) bracket between the guides on the bottom of the access point until it locks. The locking tab must be at the front.
- Hold the access point upside down. ? Note: If you can reach behind the T-bar, hold it with one hand and the access point with your other hand.
- Align the rectangular protruding part of the bracket with the T-bar.
- Hook the bracket onto one side of the T-bar.
- Hook the bracket onto the other side of the T-bar until it locks.
Mount to a solid ceiling
Steps:
- Using the provided anchors and screws, attach the 15/16 in. (23.8 mm) bracket with screw holes to the ceiling. The rectangular protruding part of the bracket must face the ceiling.
- Hold the access point upside down with its front facing the bracket. Align the guides on the bottom of the access point with the bracket.
- Slide the access point into the bracket until it locks. The locking tab must be at the front.
? Note: To unlock the access point, push the locking tab toward the ceiling and slide the access point out of the bracket.

Setup Steps
Step 1. Connect the WAX214
Power up the WAX214 access point by connecting its LAN/PoE port to a PoE switch that supplies 802.3af PoE power and 1 Gbps Ethernet speed. A typical connection involves the WAX214, a PoE switch, a router, and an internet connection, with WiFi clients connecting wirelessly.
Step 2. Join the default WiFi network
The default WiFi network name (SSID) for the WAX214 is "WAX214XXXXXX-CONFIG-ONLY," where XXXXXX represents the last 6 characters of the device's MAC Address. The default network provides WPA2 security. ? Note: The default WiFi turns off if idle for 15 minutes.
To join the WiFi network:
- On your WiFi device, open the software utility that manages WiFi connections.
- Scan for available WiFi networks and select the access point's network name (SSID): "WAX214XXXXXX-CONFIG-ONLY."
- Enter the unique passphrase printed on the product label.
Step 3. Log in to the local browser UI
After connecting to the default WiFi network, you will configure the access point through its local browser interface.
- Launch a web browser and enter
aplogin.net
in the address field. - Dismiss any security warnings that may appear.
- Follow the prompts on the Day Zero login page to set a new admin password, a new SSID, and a new passphrase.
- Accept NETGEAR's terms and conditions.
- Click the Apply button. Your settings will be saved, and you will be disconnected from the WiFi network.
- Reconnect to the WiFi network using the new SSID and passphrase you just created.
- Log in to the local browser UI using your new admin password.
? Note: If you cannot connect to the Internet, consult the user manual for troubleshooting information.
